Ai wo Chodai is about a young variety show personality named Marumie and her various adventures in romance. The characters and story are to be perfectly honest, pretty paper thin. As typical for many a reverse harem, Marumie is kind of an idiot (though you're supposed to find it endearing, relatable, and funny), and inexplicably obsessed with her cannon love interest Kandagawa despite how they never really have any really meaningful interactions. They don't really have any conversations beyond his insulting her and telling her he hates her, and yet somehow they just end up having steamy makeout sessions anyways. Meanwhile, she's got so many other guys interested in her that I can't help but think why this one? Their interactions are so superficial that there really isn't any reason I see for choosing Kandagawa over any of the other hot guys with whom she also seems to have very superficial interactions, but at least they don't insult her and tell her they hate her? And hey, her childhood friend is actually nice to her, takes care of her, and does all her housework for her. Not that they ever seem to interact as actual friends with him rather than him one-sidedly fawning over her. It's a relationship dynamic I'd probably hate for Marumie treating her friend like trash, except again the writing is so thin that her friend doesn't feel much like a real person I can empathize with. I guess you're supposed to root for Kanagawa because he's just trying so hard to be a tsundere, but because it all feels so thin, it just doesn't work for me, when normally I really like the tsundere / bickering couple trope. I need some other reason to root for the relationship other than the one time they made out was just so hot.

I also should warn that this manga contains casual homophobia to a level that I'm going to guess it's from a period when that kind of thing was normal. The part I'm referring to is over relatively quickly, but it was also a pretty big turn off, and really hurts the manga's appeal for modern audiences. Not that I thought this was all that good a manga to begin with.

Give Me Love! Which can be read fully as Ai Wo Chodai is a really fun manga that follows the determination of a young woman who is a comedian with dreams of being an actress but her life is filled with complications of an unrequited love towards an unusual character for a comedy--Kandagawa-San.

With each & every new chapter a fresh start is given from the main character, Marumie & the ultimate persuit of love & romance toward Kandagawa-San. . .

If Epic Is What You're Looking For With Bits Of Comedy & Lots Of Complicated Romance Then This Is The Perfect Manga To Read!

Either way, it's a manga worth reading for sure!

Give Me Love! ( Ai wo Chodai ) is a fun romantic comedy about a young woman in the entertainment industry, who is a comedian herself.

It is tagged as a shoujo but it really is more of a josei since the main characters are all in their 20s and are all working professionals.

She is surrounded by a lot of men who are interested in her and keeps meeting new guys and romantic interests always with a lot of interesting mishaps occurring around her and the guys. Mei has her heart set on one particularly cold megane guy in the industry who is of course the one who is not interested in her.

The writer does a good job of writing her character, and the characterization is completely given to only certain characters while some of the side characters are not as developed personality wise.

Her character is a little wacky and very upbeat and she is the type of girl who always has strange things happen to her that set her day into humorous tones. Mei is athletic and funny and sort of zany.

The writer does a good job in keeping the story entertaining and light hearted and funny.

The art is very well done in a josei or mature shoujo type style with the artist doing a good job at drawing each character to have a different and distinctive look so you can tell each person apart easily, and making the way the characters are drawn appealing and attractive with good expressions.

The ending is also satisfying and you are not left with that hanging feeling either, at 4 volumes it is a fairly quick read and does not have time to drag it out so it never gets boring.

Overall I would rate it an 8.

Shoujo and Josei readers alike will enjoy the male cast in this reverse harem!
