In his middle school years, the feminine-looking Terumi Minamoto was bullied by his female classmates after the most popular boy in the class declared Terumi to be the prettiest "girl" of them all. Living with a fear of women ever since, he seeks to change himself as he enters college. However, his father puts a wrench in his plans when he brings a pregnant woman home, announcing her to be Terumi's new mother. To accommodate her in their small apartment, Terumi is sent to live with his aunt, who is coincidentally an associate professor at his new college.

On his first day, Terumi finds out that his aunt, Kaoruko Fujiwara, is a voluptuous beauty known to hate men. As a professor, her main research is on the classic work The Tale of Genji. After a more personal introduction, Kaoruko works out that Terumi has suffered greatly because of his looks. Sensing an opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of her research, she offers to help him—starting with his fear of women. But when her methods include being "raised" into the perfect lover like Genji who had sex with 14 women, will he truly be cured by the end of his very own "Tale of Minamoto"?

Meet Minamoto. An 18 year old college student with the mental capacity of a horny 12 year old. Just to be clear, I'm going to try and cover both sides of the spectrum in my review (giving some ups and downs). When starting off reading the story I was intrigued by how it managed to introduce the main character in a clean and organized manner. It has its moment of comedy as well as backstory that hooks the reader right off the bat. From the introduction I was interested in how the genophobic teenager (Minamoto) would develop as the story went on. And let me tell you, boy was I disappointed! (Recommend reading synopsis first)

Story (7/10)

Even for an ecchi/harem manga the story is intriguing at first sight and overall does a good job executing. I can appreciate how there is always a story line to follow, and from what I read, not much filler. Each of the supporting characters comes with their own unique set of interests, such as: different personalities, interesting backstory, as well as being fucked in the butt by a perverted nymphomaniac. The story has one reoccurring flaw that I see when reading it that I can't look past... It isn't romantic. Let me elaborate. In every damn scene I read, the girl is talking giving us an overview on her past life and why she is the way she is. There little to no interaction between side-chick/main character. He just stands there thinking about how much he wants to erupt inside her until she finally shuts up and he asks to grab her tits.

Art (8/10)

The art is done really well and it deserves major credit. Whoever decided to illustrate this horny 12 year old's wet dream has major spine.

Character (3/10)

If you can come away with one thing from this review I hope it will be my overall hatred towards the main protagonist. I'll start with the MC and then move to the supporting characters. The main protagonist has many likable traits, such as : (Ill list them out for you)

*Being an overall pervert (And not in a funny way like Issei Hyoudou) ~High School DxD reference
*Being a sexual predator and avid nymphomaniac
*Being a borderline rapist
*Having less self-restraint than a pedophile
*Being dumb as a pine cone
*And an overall weirdo

In all seriousness, the main character (for me) lacked the two things that people seek in a protagonist: being likable and relatable. He has done many great things that I've seen, such as:

*Spanking and wanking it to a childhood bully having sex with a college professor
*Sexually assaulting his cousin
*Having so little self restraint that he gropes his cousin after their first date inside a movie theater
*Lacking the simplest concepts on what romance is
*Going straight for the goods of a freshman he met 3 weeks prior
*Practically begging a bitch with a daddy fetish to fuck his limp dangler after being told he was just a toy (or pet, though i don't know who would think of a pet that way but who knows)

The MC of the story has 0 character development and stays a sex hungry predator who wants to bang 14 girls and call it "romance." He is so fucking stupid that he actually believes that someone cannot date without doing the BANGA (word choice xD) right after they met, even if he understands that the girl does not want to date him because she thinks that he is just after her body. He just can't put two and two together. It is pathetic. The most ironic part of it all are that his relationships last about less than a month and end usually after he gets his clock cleaned, so I don't know if the writer meant to put in some "hidden message" but I doubt it since he is writing about a nymphomaniac who has to be set up on dates by his weird pedo aunt (aunt is still pretty nice though :)).

Supporting characters: If you were to read this manga the supporting characters are developed pretty well, but every relationship with them normally ends in disappointment because they end up doing it doggy style before kissing (slight exaggeration xD). The development of the supporting characters is pretty good, but you end up becoming disinterested once Mr. Predator (main character) gets his teenage hormones in a jumble and decides to go scuba diving in that thang. <-?

Enjoyment (4/10)

I feel weird saying this but the amount of hate I had for the main protagonist led me to not enjoy this manga. It had its moments, but the amount of pure bullshit indoctrinated into this story is enough to make me dislike it. It is obvious the author did not have anything above a high school diploma (crude humor) so it is ironic that he is writing about a college student :P.

Overall (5/10)

Overall I rate it a 5/10 because the main protag kept me from enjoying this manga, because when is ignorant and dumb enough to turn down a girlfriend (which he wined he didn't have) just because he wouldn't have "normal sex" with him. His transparency and simplicity made the idea that this manga is a romance null and void. So unless you like to see perverted (and not in a funny way, like Issei, hehe) sex fiend rape his cousin (could be classified as rape) and fuck anything that walks (literally) then don't read this manga. If you are logic strung like me you won't enjoy it.

(WARNING) This review will be heavy on spoilers so STOP right here if you don't want no spoilers.

Minamoto-kun Monogatari is a manga written and drawn by Inaba, Minori and its based off the classic work of Japanese literature, The Tale of Genji. Okay I was introduced to this manga randomly through Mangahere, at first I thought it was gonna be another perverted smut manga. But after reading some chapters and doing some research on it of whats its based off I got really into it, also the main female is the type im really into. Then my interest starting to decline drastically after 200 chapters because its falling into the same category as To Love-RU, repetitive with no character development for the MC, plus its ONLY 8 PAGES FOR EACH CHAPTER which takes forever to get through a arc and its takes almost 20 chapters for the MC to finish doing it with a girl.

Terumi Minamoto, At the beginning I felt sorry for him and wanted for him to succeed in becoming a better person, but after 200 damn chapters he's still the frickin same as he was the beginning of the manga, a pansy ass BETA with no back bone and I HATE BETA'S. For example way later on in the manga this bitch named Tsukasa Chuujou was talking down and saying some really shitty things to him and he just stood there and didn't stand up for himself. also he still that really meek, whimpering pansy expression still and the idiot is a collage student.

Kaoruko Fujiwara, Terumi's aunt, I like her, she's my favorite female of the manga because she's the type of girl I like the most, the calm, quiet, mature, seductive type also she's a hot older woman. People say she's just using the MC as her puppet, but I disagree. She's just researching something and she's helping Terumi to grow a pair, plus she's the nicest and the most supportive to him and only scolds him when does something stupid and im really thinking she's going to be the last one and Terumi will end up with her in the end, also I read in Japan its alright if you marry your aunt or cousin, plus its only fiction.

As for the rest of the females, at first I find them really nice, but later on they piss me off because they either are really annoying, bitchy, stupid, weird or not honest with there feeling. All Terumi want is a loving relationship but they screw him over, for example Chisato Hanada, she was going out with Terumi for a little while, but the dumb bitch broke up with him because some snot nosed little shit that likes to grope her ass got sad. Aoi Kiriyama is a daddy's girl with her thumb wedged up her ass, Tsukasa Chuujou is the bitch that bullied Terumi and she's a slut because she was having an affair with some college professor. Yuu Tokonatsu is the current girl Terumi is dating, but she's not being honest with herself and there's some lesbo bitch that has a thing for her, then there's Terumi male friend which I find very annoying because he likes Kaoruko, so yeah im NOT very fond of the supporting characters, since Terumi and Kaoruko are the only main ones.

Overall Score

Story 6 - Fair (Its run its coarse and has gotten annoying and repetitive, but still as some inteterinsg things in it.)
Art 8 - Very Good (I like the art, especially the hair, faces and how the female characters are drawn.)
Character 4 - Decent (Kaoruko is the character I mostly like, but the support characters brings the score down a lot for me.
Enjoyment 5 - Mediocre (Went down quite a few notches.)
Overall 6 - Fair.

Thats all for now and like any other series, anime or manga I will continue reading it because im really curious how its going to end because I want Terumi and Kaoruko to end up together and movie away to someplace. I only drop a series if something really pisses me off to a huge extent and Minamoto-kun Monogatari hasn't done that. I would really like it and if you got anything to say give me a comment on my profile or messages and thats it have a awesome day or night.

The story revolves Terumi Minamoto, a girly looking boy who suffered bullying and determined to change, until university life began and took a huge twist. He meets his aunt Kaoruko Fujiwara, a professor at Shiun University specializing in the Tale of Genji, Japan's prime novel of the Heian Period.

Kaoruko plans to use Terumi as a guinea pig for the research. Fourteen women of differing calibers enter the door, and Terumi has to win their hearts, in differing, erotic, and often challenging ways. This also challenges his fear of women.

This manga's story can be summarized as "The Tale of Genji, in symbolism and execution: erotic." The art direction of the manga is sublime and worth looking, the erotic scenes create the impression of sometimes traditional and contemporary intercourse. As a result, it reinforces the motif, the Genji of the Heian modernized.

(SPOILERS)

Characters were crafted accordingly, oftentimes accurate to the original material (e.g. Rokujou's obsession, Shian's (Lady Murasaki) fledgling knowledge, Minamoto (disowned from the beginning of the tale), and Kaoruko herself (Fujitsubo, the mother that Genji never had).

However, as the story progressed, the end suddenly drew close after Akashi (fortune teller), creating an immediate rush which downgraded the story. Immediately jumping to Kaoruko, the last challenge without some fillers or proper evaluation of Terumi by himself, of some sort. The ending is left to be desired, which ruins the overall vibe of the story.

On the bright side, those who are interested in the traditional Japanese literature can find relatable stuff in this manga (even though it's not for educational purposes).

Minamoto-kun Monogatari is basically a modern day manga version of the old classic novel Genji Monogatari (The Tale of Genji) which was written in the early years of the 11th century (the Heian period). I don't know the full details but Genji Monogatari is basically about a man named Hikaru Genji and his love life, he is man who had good-looks and was a playboy who apparently had 14 lovers in his life.

Your probably wondering why im telling you this. Well these facts play a huge part in this manga's storyline and will help you to understand it.

Story 9/10

The story focuses on Minamoto Terumi (18) a guy with a pretty face who is often mistaken as a girl, due to this he was often bullied in middle school by girls and now suffers from Gynophobia (fear of girls) and can't seem to drink milk because of the trauma he received when the girls pouring sour milk all over him. He is forced to leave his home and live with his aunt-Fujiwara Kaoruko (fathers younger sister) in his 1st year of college, little does he know that she is actually doing research on Genji Monogatari and that she plans to use him as test subject to find out what went through Genji's head when he conquered his 14 women. To find this out she plans to have Terumi conquer 14 different women and have sex with them. To do this, she slowly educates him on how to handle women and get used to a women's body which helps with his Gynophobia, she will then introduce him to a girl he must conquer and will be his guide on how to do it.

Art 8/10
The characters are drawn pretty well and they are very pretty, one problem that this manga faces is that it only has around 10 pages in each chapter, but the reason being is most likely because its a weekly manga, instead of giving a big release every month, it would give out small chapters every week or so, which in my opinion is better as there are faster releases and people who cant wait will have something to read every now and then the people who dont mind waiting and like longer releases can wait a few weeks and read a bunch chapters (pages) all at once like they would in a monthly manga.

Characters 9/10

The main characters are pretty interesting and are likable, the main protagonist (Minamoto Terumi) for example isn't the total pussy i thought he would be and is actually a strong character who at the start of the Manga was already working to get rid of his Gynophobia and his distaste for milk. At the start he already wanted to "bang every chick he comes across", well what he meant wasn't really to have sex with every girl he meets but to be more confident with girls and get a girlfriend, this is what i like about him, he knows his weakness but instead of wallowing in self pity and depression, he is already trying to become better and cure himself. I dont think ive come across a character like him and he is interesting to watch.

Another example would be Fujiwara Kaoroku, she is Terumi's aunt, she is very beautiful and is admired by many for her looks and her intelligence, it is said that she dislikes men and hasn't had a boyfriend because of it, yet she doesn't mind sexually teasing Terumi and letting him touch her. She acts as Terumi's mentor on how to handle girls and helps him with his Gynophobia, she saw Terumi's pretty face and thought he had the potential to become a playboy like Genji and help her with her research, she saw that he was already reading books on "how get girls to fall in love with you" and tells him that she can educate him a lot better than a book, she is very smart/sharp and can tell what other people are thinking or feeling, often using her knowledge to sexually tease Harumi and uses his hornyness and pent up desires against him but she does it not because she loves him but does it so that he can learn more about the female body and how to handle it so that he can get used to it and use what he has learned to conquer the girls she targets.

Enjoyment 9/10

When i came across this manga it was months ago, around the time when it first came out, at that time it was ranked just over a hundred in manga reading sites, i read the description on it and thought it would be one of those crappy ecchi mangas with the main character being a total pussy and yet suddenly gaining the affections of the girls around him and it turning into a typical harem i didn't think it would last long until it drops in the rankings...............................Oh how wrong i was, i found it again months later with it being in the top 30 which is amazing progress in my opinion, i ended up checking it out and i was addicted after 5 chapters, although the chapters are short, it doesn't have any sort of wasted pages and doesn't beat around the bush and gets straight to the point, which i like, it does an excellent job at keeping the story interesting and leaves you wanting more and more.

Drawbacks

As i mentioned before the chapters are small but it comes out every week or so, i don't say every week because the generous fans who translate this manga take time having to buy it and translate it, which can take a few a days so the releases aren't really consistent and on average takes a week for a new chapter to come out, but hopefully the translations will pick up and as the series gets more popular there will probably be more pages per chapter as it is already getting more and more colour pages but i warn you now it may be irritating having to wait for releases and reading small chapters when they come.

Overall 9/10

even with its small releases it still has a great plot and story with interesting characters to boot, i would recommend it to harem lovers and people who would enjoy mangas like To-Love-Ru Darkness and The world God Only Knows as they are similar in many ways, this manga is also still at the early stages and it hasn't even been a year since it was released so it is quite new to people and not many people have read it so dont let the current rank (2002) disturb you when not many people have read it, i predict in a few months time the rank will undoubtedly increase, if it doesn't i will eat my shoes.

i would also like to warn you that this is a mature manga and is more seinen than shounen, although they have not appeared yet there will without a doubt be sex scenes, i wont spoil the details but it is one those rare mangas that wont progress unless it has them, so sooner or later this manga will be put in the smut category on manga reader sites, it is really recommended for people 18+ but what do i know, im 15, so if you are watching be prepared for adult content.

Thank You for reading my long, boring review. I would appreciate feedback :)

Minamoto-kun Monogatari, also known Minamoto's Story, is not your typical ecchi harem. This series is a sienen, which means it targets a more mature audience. This means it isn't afraid to border (or even cross) the line when it comes to subjects such as sex and nudity. In my opinion it is one of the better harem mangas out there, and definitely worth a read. Although, if you do not like seeing incest in manga, this series is not for you. As there is definitely some incest in this series. Keep in mind I'm very generous when giving scores.

Story: 9/10. The story is said to be a modern day telling of the Tale of Genji. Our main character, Terumi Minamoto is on a quest to have sex with multiple women. He had always been traumatized of women due to being bullied by them when he was in middle school. He is now entering university and is forced to live with his aunt Kaoruko Fujiwara. She wants him to be the modern day Genji. She wants him to capture the hearts of 14 women. This is all part of her experiment to recreate a modern day Tale of Genji. Minamoto now has to capture the hearts of 14 women. His "targets" include a wide range of women. It is always interesting to see Minamoto go on a mission. If there was any complaint, it'd be that all the chapters are only 8 pages long, so it can indeed get a little slow sometimes.

Art: 10/10. The art is fantastic. Inaba Minori is a great artist. She draws really attractive characters as well. All of the girls are attractive, from the aunt to the targets.

Character: 9/10. Our main character, Minamoto, certainly has a lot to learn. He is slowly but surely attempting to outgrow his fear of women. I always find myself rooting for him to do his best on his conquests. Though he can be a wimp, I find it understandable due to his hardships. He is growing over time, and it is great to see. Now for his aunt. His aunt is amazing. She has no qualms over using herself to help Minamoto in his conquest. She lets him use her body (yes, this is incest). His targets include many different women with different personalities. You will definitely come to like some if not all of them (so far, not every target has been introduced yet).

Enjoyment: 10/10. There is never a dull moment when reading this manga. Especially when the scenes get more mature, if you know what I mean. Should be an enjoyable read anyone. The only complaint is that the chapters are really short. So it is torture waiting week after week for a new chapter. But it is definitely worth it!

Overall: 9/10. Its a great series that will definitely keep you entertained. I definitely recommend it!

Note ~ For all of who are concerned about the length of the manga, it isn't actually that long. It does have more than 350 chapters, but all the chapters are quite short in reality. Most of them can be read within only 5 minutes each. At least I did.

Life isn't all easy for a male college student named Terumi Minamoto. Imagine being a boy so pretty that strangers usually mistake you for a girl. Being that pretty must benefit Terumi a lot, right? But that doesn't seem to be the case with him, as he is left severely scarred from his traumatic experiences caused by his female classmates from middle school. Since then, he has developed a really strong fear of women and has tried to avoid any sort of interaction with them.

However, all of this soon changes after Terumi starts living with his aunt, Kaoruko Fujiwara. He quickly finds out that she is doing a research on The Tale of Genji, a Japanese classic about a guy who had sexual relationship with 14 women. And much to his surprise and detest, he learns that Karoruko is going to use him as a guinea pig for her research. Being forced by his aunt, Terumi starts getting close to 14 different girls in order to win their hearts and get rid of his fear of women.

And that's basically what Minamoto-kun Monogatari is all about. No, I'm not exaggerating.

I'm pretty sure that reading the plot alone is enough to tell you that Minamoto-kun Monogatari isn't a manga suitable for kids. Almost every chapter of the manga contains at least one sex scene. Well, that's an exaggeration, but it's certainly true that the entire manga consists of lots and lots of sex scenes. However, despite almost being a hentai, I believe Minamoto-kun Monogatari has quite a few things to offer even to the readers who aren't horny on main.

It's a no-brainer to say that the plot of Minamoto-kun Monogatari is really ludicrous. However, while the ridiculousness of the plot never changes, the manga does redeem itself a bit by adding short but decently presented backstories to all the female characters. Almost every female character is distinct from each other. I don't know how faithful the manga is to its source (which is ''The Tale of Genji''), but it seems like all the female characters are based on the women Genji had relationship with. Every one of them is a representative of different character archetypes, which can be a plus for some readers. This also enables the readers to find at least one character whom they can relate to or find likeable.

Well, the fact that pretty much any girl Terumi meets, almost instantly becomes sexually attracted to him is still very, very absurd; but adding relatable backstories to them definitely helped me sympathize with them more. Their character development throughout the entire manga is noteworthy as well. How Terumi helps them overcome their struggles is weirdly heartwarming considering the overly sexual nature of the manga; it's kinda inspirational as well.

The most prominent character, without a doubt, is Terumi's aunt Kaoruko Fujiwara. The "trashiest" parts of the manga usually revolve around her, and I would say those are the most interesting parts of the manga as well. One might find the incestuous relationship of Terumi and Kaoruko existent throughout the entire manga very questionable and bothersome, but the fact that Kaoruko plays a really pivotal role in the story is simply undeniable.

Later on in the manga, Terumi's traumatic experiences from middle school are displayed, which made his gynophobia a lot more reasonable. Despite this, though, Terumi is not a great protagonist in any way. There isn't anything very appealing about him to begin with (besides his face, I guess), and he doesn't receive much character development either. He does get rid of his fear of women and goes through slight change at the end, but most of his actions remain very questionable for almost the entirety of the manga.

Another flawed aspect regarding the characters is that some of them remain fairly underdeveloped. Although developing all the characters equally when there's more than a dozen is pretty hard, it's an inescapable issue in Minamoto-kun Monogatari's case. Characters like Chisato, Noriko, Iyo etc. were considerably less prioritized, which became very apparent in the later parts of the manga and felt very odd.

The worst aspect of the manga, however, is its rather haphazard and rushed ending. Terumi's relationship with a few of the characters aren't properly established even after 350+ chapters, which left a lot of readers, including me, kinda dissatisfied with the ending. Even how Terumi and Kaoruko's relationship came to its conclusion is show poorly, which is honestly very disappointing.

Regarding the art, it isn't anything spectacular, but it is fairly decent. All the characters are drawn pretty nicely. And of course, as I mentioned earlier, the manga contains a lot of sex scenes. And I mean A LOT. Obviously, the sex scenes aren't shown entirely. If they were, this manga would've become a hentai, you know? And it's already really close to being one.

Overall, Minamoto-kun Monogatari was a decent read, but it's certainly not something I would recommend to an average reader. And even if you don't mind the ridiculous plot and the excessive amount of sex scenes and fanservice, I can't assure you that you will have an amazing time reading it.

But hey, if you are as trashy as me, give Minamoto-kun Monogatari a try. As I said before, it does have some genuinely praiseworthy things to offer; but keep in mind that, in the end, it's just a manga about a guy trying to get into the pants of more than a dozen girls. So yeah, don't expect anything too great.
Plus
