Prison School

Prison School is a masterpiece 10/10. Great art, great characters, and a marvelous story.
Well yes it has some flaws, but most of the complain i see is from the end of the series, I HATE IT, i almost screamed in frustration when i read that.
But its the perfect ending, and is the fact that every one hates it that make it so brilliant, through the manga we follow the story of 5 douche bags, they are NOT HEROES, they only make fucked up shit and the plot only begins because they get caught doing literally sexual harassment, and yet, we sympathize with they story, we are mostly on their side, but what about the other side?
The other side of the spectrum are the girls, it doesn't matter if they are a friend or a foe, the boys are always trying to abuse or benefit from then, but it doesn't make the girls a victim, they are as bad, if not worse than the boys. The 5 are isolated, they are exotic animals to the women there, and they keep "messing up" (for a lack of better words) with the boys, the President puts then in horrible situations to her own benefit, like the bonner episode, she sacrifices everything to her own good. the vice pres. keeps physically abusing the 5, and Hana is the worse, she keep trying to shame Kiyoshi after the accident, she could forgive him and forget what happened, but her own pride keeps her going, the same pride that is responsible for this bitter ending, and eventually she herself succumbs, when she mistook the first sexual experience she had for love for Kiyoshi.
What is my point you are asking, what this rambling is for? My point is: EVERY ONE OF THE CHARACTERS ARE A BUNCH OF DIPSHITS, there are no one that is entirely good or bad, there are no hero nor villain, they are people, even worse, they are TEENAGERS, they have flaws, although the boys have known each other since childhood, they constantly backstab each other for own benefice, the girls have a superiority complex so great that they still hate the 5 after all the sacrifice they have done, and yet there are one person that is different, one person that through the story remained pure, Chiyo.
I never liked Chiyo, in a cast full of interesting and well written characters, i always tough she was extremely bland. After all the shit Kiyoshi have done, she still likes him, she doesn't complain, her personality is being good and comprehensive, but she isn't a god, and she finally breaks in the end.
The ending is great, because the protagonist *doesn't* win, he losses and deserves to lose, because after everything he went through, he still is a bad person, even he admits: "I am a coward and a pervert, a sick wimp". And being a son of a b*tch, he gets what he deserves, but still, WHY THIS MAKES EVERYONE SO FRUSTRATED?
Because we sympathize with Kiyoshi, we sheer for the bad guy, that's why we hate the ending, because it is a final flip off of the author, not for the charterers he created, but for us, the readers, you need to have steel balls to say a" Fuck You" to your readers, and the worse part? we deserve it.
The ending is great.

I finished the anime twice, and I got curious and read the manga. I read the manga all the way through to the end. I sat through that awful cavalry arc. I watied for the wet t-shirt which never came. I was so happy when Chiyo accepted Kiyoshi. Then, they freaking ruined it on the last page. There is no happy ending. It is one filled with anger. My anger, and those who were read along with me. It is not even a good sad ending. It is a half-assed ending. The bros never even got together in the end, they were just floating somewhere else in some river.

This used to be about bros being bros, but after chapter 85 it changed to bros getting along with girls. At that point it was already deteriorating. There is nothing wrong with putting girls into the mix, but the bros grow further apart with every chapter.

When I was reading this manga I didn't laugh, which speaks volumes for a comedy series. The jokes became redundant and stopped being funny, the chapters dragged on. In fact, I was feeling pretty stressed while reading this, because the misunderstandings keep piling on top of one another, and their problems are never solved. The characters never get to be happy, absolutely no one gets the last laugh since everyone is so stressed, neither the protagonists nor the antagonists. Do they accomplish anything? No, misunderstandings and problems just keep accumulating until the manga ENDED. So this is just a story without a conclusion. Well, there IS one, but no one is happy since the no one has tried to solve any of their problems. When they DO try, however, nothing changes in the end because they screw up because 1.JUST HURRY UP AND DO IT BEFORE ITS TOO LATE or 2.GODDAMMIT STOP BEING A SIMP. A prime example is when Gakuto was trying to apologize to Mitsuko but failed because he is a greedy simp.

However, there is one aspect I would like to praise this manga for, and that is Risa x Andre. The author has stuck with Andre's masochist setting till the end, and not only that, he broke this setting by introducing him to the kindness of Risa. This is not a bad thing, this shows that Andre is growing as a character, and they are heading towards a healthy relationship. On the other hand, they did a bad job with Joe and his ant-loving setting. After the OVA episode, which is around chapter 85-88 out of 278 chapters, there is not another mention of ants. While this does not bother me considering loving ants is quite restrictive and can stump the author, that is not an excuse to just forget that he had this setting and not even mention it let alone write up an excuse for it when the manga is not even half-way done. Everyone except for Risa x Andre just kinda stopped growing and developing after a while, in fact, they are regressing, and at the end, you feel like nothing has really improved since the beginning of the series, but instead everything got worse. There are some developments with Hana x Kiyoshi, but at the very end, they decided to make Hana a million times more bitchy, pretty much nuking the ship in order to let Chiyo x Kiyoshi set sail, only to nuke it with a shit eating grin, effectively nullifying all developments up until that point.

This is the first time saying this, but I wish I never started the manga. I should've stopped at the anime. Reading the manga just wasted my time with, I don't know, 50-100 chapters of shitty cavalry arc and not an ounce of the bro essence found during their prison days. There is so much I want to express but I can't write more, because I just finished this and I am absolutely livid with how it ended. I want my hours back, Prison School.

The series is not funny it's hilarious yep very hilarious.

The story is centered in a high school where barley all the students are girls there is minority boys and by minority boys I'm talking about 5 student Kiyoshi-gakuto-joe-andre-shingo a failures to start any relationship with girls once they tried to peeing on girls in bathroom which ended badly by them captured at hands of the president and the vice-president leading them to go to the prison of this school and being beaten badly .
All I care is the one who made this series hilarious is Gakuto for me , how about you?

This is the story of a manga with so much potential which fell into a dark abyss.

Let me start off by stating I HATE ecchi manga. The manga I read is usually slice of life, psychological thrillers, comedies and romances. I hate manga with nothing to contribute other than vulgar scenes. If I wanted to read ecchi stuff I know a better place to do this (you know what im talking about). I never thought I would end up reading something like this, but after stumbling upon it randomly and browsing through the first couple of chapters, I got enthralled by the incredible quality of the art, and kept on reading it until the very end.

This brings me to my first point and arguably the manga's biggest strength: ART. The art in this manga is amazing. No, amazing is an understatement. It is incredible. The characters designs, shadow manipulation, facial expressions, and of course, ecchi scenes, are all done to perfection. Akira Hiramoto is an incredibly talented manga artist, and this is easily in my top 5 art in mangas I have ever seen. I can only imagine how much of an unstoppable force Hiramoto would be in a universe where his writing was even just half as good as his art.

This brings me to my next point. While the art is superb, the writing leaves much to be desired, especially during the last chapters.

First of all, let me start by saying the comedy is ok. Jokes are vulgar, and very oriented towards a male audience. Sometimes it gets overly raunchy and even disgusting at times, but this is to be expected out of ecchi manga so nothing out of the ordinary here. The incredible art does make up for this, by having some hilarous character expressions and scenes.

Now on to the story. The story is a huge mess. At first, the story is clean and concise. There is a goal and everyone is working towards that single goal with some hilarous events and some of the best scenes happening here, such as Kiyoshi's and Hana's hilarious and charming encounters. Howver, by the end of the story in the last few arcs, it is a convoluted mess, with multiple parallel events happening at the same time, some of which I could not care less about such as the principal's arc, constantly jumping between these parallels over and over again. To make matters worse, all of these parallels are convoluted and full of random, non-sensical events, and tons of secondary and uncessary characters which spread our attention too thin.

Character development is also a huge mess. It starts off good, with the characters seeming genuine, interesting, and real. If anything, they were a little too vulgar. They reminded me a little bit of the breakfast club. But as the story goes on, main characters start to lose their personalites and genuinity and by the end they are complete degenerate animals who think about nothing but sex. The manga then makes the decision to have some very real and charming moments in the first half, and then make a complete joke of these events as if they had no purpose later.

Why is Hana, arguably the character with the best development in the story and with the most charming events, completely thrown under the bus by the end? Why give us all these cute scenes of her only to completely ignore her and her feelings later? Why do I have to read a complete side story about the principal if it has no relevance in the main story and I do not care about any of the characters who show up in his story? Why give the main characters such a big part in the beginning of the story only to shift our attention onto random ass characters which are introduced at the last moment? Why is a scene of someone trying to take away the headband of another character 10 chapter long (is this is dragonball all over again)? Why did I read 277 chapters only for everything to go to waste in an ending that can only be described as playing a videogame for hours only for the console to shutdown unexpectedly and realizing you did not save and losing all your progress?

I am sad. This had so much potential and some characters I did care about. At some point during the later chapters I gave up on pretty much everything and only kept on reading it to see what would happen to hanna, kiyoshi and meiko, because at that point I had pretty much stopped caring about everyone else.

Hiramoto is an incredible artist who deserves to go on and create a masterpiece with his drawing skills later. Just for that I am giving it an ok score to support him. But this manga definetely left me with much to be desired.

Started out decent and kept on getting better till midway. The quirky characters were quite interesting. I started enjoying the gags and actually got hooked. After that, the series started rolling downhill. The story felt severely dragged and the characters (or their actions) got more and more unlikeable. In fact, if you are like me, you might end up hating every single one of them and while this is quite subjective, I personally am not a fan of twisted endings.

Is it a bad manga?
A: Well, that depends. I wouldn't go as far as calling it bad because honestly, I did enjoy quite a few moments while reading it. My only regret is that I can't say the same for the entirety of the read.

Would I recommend it?
A: No. If you (like me) tend to get engrossed too much in the story, don't read it. You'll just end up with a headache once you are done with it and wish that you had spent all that time doing something else.

I dislike ecchi - it is juvenile and lazy.

So how can I give this series a 10/10? Simple: Prison school is a satirical deconstruction of ecchi taken to absurdity. It unapologetically magnifies and caricaturizes ecchi in the same spirit as Golden Boy.

Yes, you read that right, Prison School is the spiritual successor of Golden Boy.

To enjoy this series, you must realize it's a satire on the ecchi genre.

At key points in the story, I've laughed so hard. The "omfg- no way, I can't believe he went there" type of laugh that stems from being surprised. And the mangaka skillfully magnifies and raises the stakes panel by panel. In effect, you find yourself taking it in slowly, one panel at a time, just "omfg" laughing it out before moving onto the next panel.

Yet the surprises are within the realm of possibility. At least for me, I can personally relate to the absurdity that surfaces in privacy.

** Story **
This is a character driven manga. The story itself is tenuous, acting as a scaffold for the characters to sandbox in.

** Art **
Excellent. I'm not a fan of the ecchi. I do love the perspective shots (wide angle distortion, telephoto flattening) and use of hyper realism. It's superb.

** Character **
For the most part, I would say the characters are one dimensional adults. There isn't much room for personal development, but I don't mind that for this series.

Hana is the most complex character, IMHO. As bizzare as her character is, I've dated a girl just like her. Minus the physical violence, everything is spot on.

I enjoyed Prison School, from start to finish, in some way. Not always the same way, but I definitely found enjoyment in some way or other throughout reading it. So remember that while you read this review.

Some times, the characters act completely out of what they were established, creating a situation that turns out to be another comedic, nonsensical disaster. Maybe the only two fully consistent characters were the Vice-President and the Chairman. And I think that's ok, since it was always funny in the "what-the-hell-is-happening" kind of way, but not completely random. The ending to each story arc definitely was super entertaining, wondering how the characters would resolve their dilemmas, or how they wouldn't.

I think that while it may have been the author milking everything out of the setting and comedy since there were no more good ideas to come up with, I'm ok with the ending and everything leading up to it. Would I have liked to see more and have things play out differently? Yeah. I like to think (not saying everyone should accept it) that sometimes in school life things you thought were improtant don't amount to much, teenage boys are trash, girls can be dumb and petty (Hana), or kind and naive (Chiyo).

In the end, things didn't really matter that much, and I was ok with it. Maybe the whole story was a riff on how easily people, especially school kids, are swayed, can be mean over past events to others, or how they can't change their stubborn ways, or how easily they forget things that seemed important in the moment.

Prison School was a Good(7) read not because the story ended wrapped up nicely in a bow, but because it was ridiculous, had fun dialogue and comedy, with beatiful artwork at the cost of probably the most important things, the characters. Most of them were pretty bad people in some ways that never changed for the better, and that's the only thing that held this series back from being a 10/10.

Started reading the manga after watchng the anime..

Started strong ..The introduction of the setting and the characters were dealt nicely..

The art style was also a little different which added flavour to it..

But fizzled out after the initial prison breakout.The story and pacing became too emphasized on sexual innuendo while neglecting sublime plot points which were never utilised...

Less talk about the ending is better...It got BLEACHED...All of the character developments throughout the manga resulted to null in the last chapter.Many questions remain answered...

Where do I begin?
Prison school was my first ecchi anime I've watched, as a young teen I considered it a masterpiece of a story. Cut to years later (now), I randomly found out about the manga, the nostalgia.... and to my surprise, 28 volumes of this masterpiece, I thought... (Foreshadowing: Which I deeply regret later) I picked it up as soon as I could and got straight into it.

Let me get this straight, this is the most beautifully drawn manga I've read till date. The details... Must have been really hard work, props to the mangaka. (Foreshadowing: It really hurts to see such potential go to waste.)

Up until the infamous *spoiler* shithole arc. Everything was just fine.
This shithole arc was somehow dragged out to more than 10 FREAKIN VOLUMES!!! Is this guy for real?

There were SOME good bits after this "arc", not all downhill. And then story picked up towards a finale.

Coming to the last volume, the build up was just crazy, until... The last chapter... a very very very disappointing ending.

Completed 28 volumes, and still have a truck load of unanswered questions and criticism on questionable plot twists.

When finished reading it, I felt robbed of the joy and nostalgia. A disappointing way to end such a well drawn and unique manga. Wish I could just forget this happened and call the anime's end the cannon end.

Would still give it a 7/10

Prison school was an amazing adventure filled with wacky scenarios, erotic art, and constant plot twists, there are some solid scenes and arks. the character is enjoyable and the mange does provide a good level of humor, when I read the manga I read it in about 3 big chunks from about chapter 1-100 to 101-190 then the final chunk finishing it, and I'll be honest this was probably over 2 or 3 years as the manga was in about chapter 192 ish when I started. though time didn't make this series lose its touch.

So you like jokes, you like drawn boobies, you like crazy unrealistic scenarios? well, you may like this. though there are downsides to this manga as there are with many, rarely is anything perfect. honestly, this mange is a great read, definitely NSFW but it has some really engaging character who are total scumbags, but they are our scumbags, in the school they attend they are basically labeled scum just because they are boys, but they don't really help themselves, so what's the logical thing to do? throw them in prison. That's it you're done with my review go maybe read it.

(Kinda a spoiler but I think the ending is absolute trash and it kinda ruined everything leading up to it for me but it's still a fun read)

Okay, so Kiyoshi in my eyes is the main main character. so his story's with Hana and Chiyo is what grabbed me, I like the balance between the characters and that you have different reasons for supporting either one. What I don't like is the last chapter. I felt so happy with the confession as I wanted Fujino X Chiyo. Though Hana Couldn't take it and had to rip off those trousers to which as soon as the idea he may still be wearing them came up there's no doubt in anyone's mind. I would have been way more surprising and happier if he wasn't wearing them but no. and considering Chiyo's character before that I was hoping maybe she would just shrug it off as like well I've accepted him now but emerges Evil Chiyo which ends the manga. (I get him wearing the panties basically means that the new relationship was based on a lie saying they were in a draw at home but still. Week ending)

I'm also kinda upset that everyone else other then Andrus story has loose we don't wanna fix it endings. though I shouldn't have expected anything rewarding, I suppose to form the beginning the boys are being tortured and in the end, they end up no better. I'm honestly kinda wishing I never read it now as well since I feel so pee'd off about the ending . but the journey was fun, funny and throw away.

I like it, but I don't like the way they ended it, sometimes when the author flips you off and says "you thought this! But Actually this!" you think "Gosh they really got me. what an ending." this time they ripped my trousers off made a suggestive noise, Flipped the bird and said Screw you, leaving me with Manga blue balls.
