Devilman vs Getter Robo review
For those of you who don't know, and I wouldn't blame you, this is a manga crossover between two creations of the Father of Combining Robots himself, Go Nagai. Specifically Getter Robo and Amon: Devilman. Now I know what you're thinking: Who/What is Getter/Devilman? Well, I can tell you. Both of them are creations, as I said, of Go Nagai, who created such things you may have heard of such as Mazinger Z, Steel Jeeg and Violence Jack. What possesed the man to cross over a giant robot with a man possesed by the devil is beyond me but hey, I'm not as badass as he is. Getter Robo is about a team of robot pilots fighting a Dinosaur Empire that live in the core of the Earth, using a powerfull energy from space known as Getter Rays. Now, I don't know much about Devilman at all really, but from what I can tell it's about a man named Akira who got possesed by a demon called Amon and he must now fight off Amons bride Silene who is trying to kill him, I think? I'm probably wrong but, whatever, I should read the manga.

One of the things that would immediately strike Nagai fans as odd, is that the Getter team in this manga is the version from the original anime, Getter Robo, and not the original manga. How do we know this? Well, Ryoma and Hayato are much more subdued and the Command Machine is in it (Though it does lead to a rather funny scene where Professor Saotome calls the Command Machine "Useless"). I've never read or watched Devilman at the time of this review, so I can't tell you how accurate his portrayal is, but considering most of the manga revolves around him, I would assume it's ok.

The plot revolves around Akira (Devilman himself) and his friend Miki visiting Saotomes lab, since apparently Miki and Michiru are friends...go figure. Of course the Getter team and Akira quickly start argueing. Meanwhile, the Dinosaur Empire is still trying to take down the Getter and Devilmans villan, Silene, approaches the Dinosaur Emperor Gore, suggesting they join forces temporarily to defeat their enemies. What follows is 4 chapters of Devilman fighting demons while Getter is actualy kind of useless most of the time. The Dinosaur Empire forces are easily taken down but Getter has some serious trouble fighting the demons, it's actualy a little disapointing in that regard. What we do get though are 2 entirely new robots that have no context outside of this short series, so if you don't want spoilers feel free to skip the rest of this paragraph. We get Getter Queen and DevilGetter! Getter Queen is apparently a prototype Saotome made before the Getter, but accidently made the cockpits too small and only women can pilot it, so obviously Michiru and Miki hop on in and start flying around, it looks alot like Aphrodai A to me. As for DevilGetter? Well, to fight the demons Devilman actualy possesses the Getter to form DevilGetter and...it's actualy extremely badass looking, makes you wish it was in more.

The artwork is pretty good for the most part verging on a little strange sometimes. Whoever drew it seems to have a fixcation with drawing bare breasts and butts at every available opportunity. We see Michiru naked, we see Miki naked, we see Musashi naked for some reason. I know with Silene you can't help it but woah! A man could die from that much exposure. Normaly I wouldn't be complaining, I mean, it's me talking here, but considering how short this series is, it felt like a little too much sometimes. The mecha drawings are nice, with the new ones looking pretty awesome and needing their own series if you ask me. Imagine that huh? Amon: The Darkside of DevilGetter...what? I'd read it.

So who is this for? Nagai fans? Probably, it kinda relies on you already knowing what the hell is going on beforehand although I suppose that is the staple for any crossover. If you're a Go Nagai fan, feel free to give it a try and if you're not, if you want a really, really short example of what Go Nagai works are like, give it a quick glance, just don't expect AAA+ entertainment here because you won't get it.

Final Score: 7/10

HAREM END review
How about murdering males that abuse females by creating a harem around those and finally killing the target? This may sound interesting at first sight, however Harem End is fails to portray this miserably through an inconsistent story with very dull and shallow characters, as well as having an excess of gore. This leaves the reader wondering whether the focus of the manga lays in displaying gore or the story itself.

These murders are done by a group of girls called "Harem End" - hence the title. Through an internet website affected females submit the target person whom they want murdered. The group handles these requests by first investing the client thourougfully, and if conditions are met, the process begins. This is an interesting premise, as in addition there is a mysterious animation company who has ties with one of the assessinated victims from "Harem End". Shame that the author failed to portray this, and the overall story was poorly executed and displayed.

There is a gist to the animation company: it specializes in the use of taxidermied corpses, called "Shitai" anime. However, there is a problem on how the author displays it: the corpses and explanation on how everything is made is too detailed, which makes the impression that the main objective of Harem End was to display "Shitai" anime and gore, and not the story itself.

Going back to the narrative, the different events are somewhat well written, but the continuety was not. Throughout each chapter, sudden jumps in storyline are made, as well as the dialogue of characters not being consistent neither believable in any way. There is neither any explanation on why the members of the organization "Harem End" are so adverse to males. nor any background stories were provided for the cast.

The characters of Harem End are far from desirable as well: very bland and shallow, no real motives behind any of the actions, lacking any type of real motivation behind it, making it neither realistic nor believable. There is also the problem of the clients, whose motives are never displayed neither of the victims, making it impossible to feel any attachment to the characters at all. The women seem to be stereotypical and generic, but even in this aspect it's difficult to distinguish between each of them, as all behave similarly or even nothing is shown.

Harem End's art style is passable as a whole, but the different facial expressions and character movements are very lacking, as it doesn't give any feeling of fluidity. Character designs are very simplistic and generic, being the defining points of characters hairstyle and clothing. Backgrounds suffer from the same problem as well: very simplistic, and a lack of shading. What must be highlighted is the amount of detail put into drawing the different gore scenes, depicting dead corpses, dismembered body parts, skin... In fact, too realistic for my own liking, making me feel sickened throughout the manga.

So is Harem End a recommendable to read? Definetely not. It has an interesting premise, but storywise and characterwise it fails miserably, as well focusing too much on gore with bad plot development of the story and explanation of characters behaviour. Unless you are into gore that is.

Thank you for reading.

First off the score is not 8 but its 7.5

This manga was released in a weird phase of the mangaka life during 1973 to 1974 it was Tezuka Osamu transition period between shounen to seinen work ( more children to mature). Before the manga starts their is a brief history about the man's life and the situation he was in. The protagonist of this story, is intentional or unintentional similar to the author having a huge slump problem.

The Protagonist is not likable, he's an alcoholic, abuser and has sorta mental illness the manga never really clarifies. This manga is the closest thing as a realistic story from what i read from this author but that is not saying much. A lot of times, in the end, your unsure what is real or not, the supernatural a delusion or its an actual element. don't mean to make u not read but you have understood the context this is definitely a stepping stone for one of his more mature mangas.

I think i have to always state this but this manga fucken use of panels are amazing, how it seamlessly flows puts most modern manga to shame. This compliments the art as at times it really vicious and damn scary some drawings looking like one of those history lessons in Legend of the Galactic Hero with striking art (biggest compliment for Fear). The character development is interesting as they don't significantly change neccessarily but instead more of the downfall of a man after he peaked.

Anyways its not a perfect read but definitely, an interesting one 7.5/10 seems good
