One Piece review
I hate this manga. I hate it so much every time I even hear of it I want to die. I want to breakdown on the floor and cry my eyes out until I die from dehydration. This is so bad. I read this because it hit 500 chapters and I heard it being hyped up. I thought to myself "oh it must be good, it hit 500 chapters". Boy how wrong I was. I don't understand how this dogshit manga series hit 1000 chapters recently.

I kept reading only because I went too far in. I've had multiple heart attacks from panic attacks just thinking about the torture the next chapter will bring me. I went too far in, I can't drop it now. I torture myself every week taking in another chapter of One Piece.

The only reason this manga series called One Piece doesn't have a rating of one, is the character Roronoa Zoro. God, the things I would do to that man. I could write an entire novel series on how much and why I love Roronoa Zoro. Each week, for 12 years, I have read One Piece only for the character Roronoa Zoro.

But alas, even Zoro cannot save this horrible series. Please I wish I just died a slow death from being hit by a truck so that I don't have to read One Piece anymore. I never want to see a fruit ever again because it just reminds me of devil fruits. I don't want to watch or talk about the sport hockey, just because it sounds like haki. I hate going to zoos and seeing monkeys, because it reminds me of Monkey D. Luffy. I hate toilet paper rolls because the cardboard thing in the middle reminds me of Usopps stupid long nose. I hate the bird Robins because of Nico Robin. I hate skeletons because of Brook. I hate almost everything about this series.

TLDR: I hate One Piece and almost everything about it, except for Roronoa Zoro.

Utsuro no Hako to Zero no Maria review
You could say that Hakomari is a mix between 'chessgame' type fiction like No Game No Life, Kaiji and Akagi, Yasutaka Tsuisui and Dostoyevsky-lite (or Kokoro Connect). The light novel works on two levels, the first being the highly satisfactory intellectual level of how the games and betrayals pile up on top of one another, and the second being the extremely brutally pessimistic worldview of Eiji Mikage. Most characters contain deep psychological traumas derived from the worst part of humanity. The main failure of most other chessgame fiction is the lack of characterization and an overt focus on the games themselves. What made Kaiji great was that it had biting social critique and it actually bothered to characterize exactly how powerless a person is at the bottom of the Japanese societal class structure and how dog-eat-dog the world was.

The thing about Hakomari is that while the psychological traumas are very brutally expounded upon, they seem to derive from incessantly small miserable human exploits. This is where the Tsuisui connection comes in. Much of the plot of Hakomari involves petty human unrequited loves, domestic violence, jealousy, anger and arrogance blowing up into apocalyptic levels due to the interference of supernatural forces. Bullying and the chain effect of evil is an especially prevalent theme across, but especially at the later arcs when more ground-shaking revelations are thrown out at everyone. In fact he even uses the latest arc to commentate on this by showing every human, even the most normal, being full of pent-up dirty emotions and despicable shames. Mikage's world is a world of whores, misanthropists and broken souls.

As a light-novel the plot is extremely satisfying and tragic and, although entertaining and emotional, doesn't quite go the far stretch at portraying the human soul as stuff like NGE and Tsuisui's books actually do. It's just a very tightly written story with enough twists and turns and dramatic outcries to get your heart pumping. Its also written (or rather translated) into a very readable and economic style which sets up the rules of the games in a precise manner and then shows the outcome. It also mixes up a lot of styles and narrative methods to vary up the types of games. On a technical level Mikage writes a lot like the highly psychological works of Looseboy like G Senjou no Maou and Sharin no Kuni.

Death Note review
Created in 2004 by writer Tsugumi Ohba and illustrator Takeshi Obata, Death Note originated as a manga that received critical acclaim a month after its release. The anime, released in 2006, was given great praise immediately after it‘s TV distribution. Having heard of its fan base and popularity, I decided to purchase a few volumes of the manga and rent a few episodes of the anime, careful to not have big expectations.

What I got was simply a riveting masterpiece that I have no shame in calling this the greatest manga/anime series in the world. Regardless of whether you love or hate comics or animated TV shows, Death Note is a series that should be enjoyed by those who love thought-provoking concepts, endless twists, turns and main characters that are so complex that pages of literature can be based upon them.

The story centers on a teenager named Light Yagami, an intelligent student who finds a notebook simply titled “Death Note.” After discovering that he can kill people by writing their name in the notebook, he decides to use the book to rid the world of criminals, believing them to be the cause of all grief. After killing countless criminals, half of the world embraces Light as a god, while the other half labels him a mass murderer, even giving him the nickname “Kira,” Japanese for killer. Soon, the amount of criminal deaths catches the attention of the International Police Organization, which immediately attains the help of a brilliant private detective, commonly known as “L,” to capture “Kira”. A psychological cat-and-mouse game quickly arises between the two.

What makes Death Note so riveting is just how much detail was given to the story. Every character, event, subplot, etc… seems to be brought to life with the use of superb writing and a beautiful art style. Throughout the series, Light seems to be headed down a self-destructive path, which may lead to his possible downfall as he acknowledges that he is in fact some god meant to pass judgment upon the world. Another factor is the way the story is told: each episode gives a lot of information, but offers just as many questions and mysteries, guaranteeing an addicting experience.

If Death Note gives you the unlikely impression that it’s a kid’s show, think again. Not only is this the most serious anime/manga I have seen, but it also contains vast amounts of adult content. Death Note is the story of an anti-hero, a disturbed individual who tries to play god but ends up losing his humanity and everything that is dear to him in the process. The tragic story is probably not going to attract people below the age of 14 because of its complexity and R rating.

Death Note is not only one of the greatest Japanese products I have ever seen, it also deals with a controversial subject worldwide: capital punishment. It cleverly discusses this issue without alienating the viewer and leaves room for lots of post-episode discussion. Death Note is an enjoyable TV show and comic book, which will entertain those who are interested in a series that offers many captivating concepts, regardless of what your opinion of cartoon shows and comic books might be.

Yuri Hime Selection review
Mod Note: This review was initially posted for the one-shot, Hoshi ni Negai wo, and was subsequently merged into Yuri Hime Selection.

Well, I don't particularly see the "shoujo ai" of this one shot, but I do certainly see a strong friendship.

This one-shot's a short one (around twenty pages I'd say) that focuses on two friends that are trying to help each other get over a death. The story itself is brief, so there's not much you can get, but the simplicity of it is sweet, and perfectly straightforward.

The characters, like the story, have a small development, but not enough to really get a deep sense of who each character is. But the characters are shown as children to the present time so that you could get a sense to briefly understand what each personality's like and their reactions.

I personally think the art is lovely in that simplistic sense. The mangaka is very good at showing the emotions of the characters, and the artwork itself is clear and easy to see.

Enjoyment totally depends on the person, but I'm one of those people who enjoy reading stories about a good friendship, may it have tragedy or adventure. But Wishing on a Star has that relationship that kind of gives you that bittersweet smile. Like I said in the beginning, I honestly don't see the shoujo ai (unless you really want to interpret a friendship like that), but quite frankly, I feel as though more girls would enjoy this than guys.

Overall, the one-shot's probably deserving of a seven or eight, as I'm not too big on the shortness of it, but the story itself was simplistic and straightforward to understand what's going on.

Ousama Game review
I actually read this story's prequel (Ousama Game: Kigen) before I read this. The prequel was fairly average, so I had hoped that its predecessor would have been about the same or perhaps a bit better. Sadly, I was disappointed.

The story follows a high school class as they participate in "The Ousama's (King's) Game". The Ousama gives an order, the class obeys or else suffers the consequences. While this setup seems promising, the execution is rather lack luster. The early orders are very immature, involving sexual activities between the boys and girls of the class. While I have nothing against sex in my manga and anime, when characters are forced to have sex with each other for a ridiculously contrived reason it feels needlessly gratuitous. The later orders ramp up the intensity, being more centered around choosing classmates to kill and the like, but the poor writing persists for the entire story so the effect is ruined.

Furthermore, all the characters are too over the top. Their characterization is unrealistic and there's no progression. The characters who are terrible humans are immediately terrible, and the characters who are good people are immediately good (and they never change). In this type of story its fun to watch characters slowly lose their minds, succumbing to despair and paranoia, but when you have characters acting crazy immediately it has no effect. Furthermore this suffers from the problem many other poorly told horror stories do, that being the characters continually make stupid, illogical decisions. This may keep the plot moving, but its annoying to watch characters act in a way no human in their situation ever would.

I won't give away the ending, but I will say that the climax feels rushed and the reveal is pretty lame. The sequel was decent enough, but this was a tedious read with its sloppy story telling and sloppy character development. I neither enjoyed nor would recommend this manga.

Zankyou review
Beauty will be convulsive or will not be at all.--Andre Breton
And so goes for this manga.
The best word that describes the story and the whole theme,is nothing but the actual name itself!
Resonance:the special meaning or importance that something has for you because it relates to your own experiences.
The more you read the more you get close to this world but not only because Takahashi (the mangaka) himself had such experiences like living in downtown and Yakuza business and etc,but because that's the way the story leads one.this is true in our own lives too ,you get more connected to the people who share some bad or good experiences with you because you can get more connected to them.
The story is pretty much fast you just read and go on,there are no stops and it takes less than a day to finish it.
Takahashi points out some of the maybe serious problems of the modern society but while keeping the note that somethings are just fate and one can not change and should live with it, however the interesting point is that no matter how hard a situation can be,man always tend to find happiness,we see a lot of misfortunes or maybe it's wrong to call it such however they go through it because simply there is no way,and that is what I like about the characters.
About enjoyment, such stories are not written to give the reader but to give one the feeling that maybe I am not that unfortunate!maybe I have far more than I need, maybe I should know the value of things that I already have and love them to the very end, maybe I should love my family more, etc.
Art is just classic Takahashi,if you have read some other of his works you know what I mean.
Overall is that if you haven't read other works of Takahashi, this may be not the best one to start because he has some better works however this doesn't mean that this is a bad work, actually after I read it I didn't feel that I have wasted my time,I was happy with what was provided but this may not be the work that you gonna remember let's say 10 years later.
Thanks for reading, hope you all the embrace the moment.
