Utsuro no Hako to Zero no Maria review
I would like to start this review by saying that I'll be covering all 6 volumes of the light novel in this review. While the first volume might be used as the framework and even the basis of the entire novel, the volumes that followed Volume 1 are equally important and I'll try to focus on the series as whole instead of talking about the almost flawless first volume. [If you see me say Hakomari it is another title for Utsuro no Hako to Zero no Maria. It's just easier to type]

Story - 10/10
Assuming you have read the synopsis of this novel you'd have some kind of idea about the setting and atmosphere of the story. I feel that the synopsis really doesn't describe the novel as a whole and even though it focuses on outlining the first volume's plot, it fails to encompass the entire theme and idea behind the novel. Hakomari's first volume flawlessly expands on the synopsis provided to create one of the most intriguing and complex stories that you'll find. You will constantly attempt to solve the mystery yourself and while the story may provide clues to the reader you will often find yourself mistaken in many aspects of this story. The novel does this throughout its entirety and although Volume 2 falls slightly in this regard the rest of the novel is almost perfect. The story is constantly evolving, changing and twsting itself into a seamless expanse of "mind-fuckery" (as I like to call it).

Art - 8/10
I would have liked to leave Art out of the review as I felt it played no part in the novel whatsoever apart from putting a face to my beloved characters. I've given it an 8 simply because it didn't feature prominently in the novel and wasn't an integral part of it. Added to that is the art itself. I liked it but I felt something was off. No idea how to describe it.

Characters - 10/10
Hakomari might seamlessly twist and weave a story that leaves you wondering what's up and what's down but it is the characters presented in the story that manage to steal the spotlight. Throughout its entirety, Hakomari creates some of the most fleshed out and developed characters that you'll ever find. I'll take for example, Kazuki Hoshino, who begins a transformation in the latter half of the 6 volumes that leaves him as a completely different person. Eji Mikage manages to make this transformation seamless as Kazuki slowly but surely transforms into one of the most amazing characters. He's my favourite character for a reason as his transformation uses some of his most defining features and amplifies them due to his obsession with someone. I used Kazuki as an exaple but I can promise that every single character is just as fleshed out and many of them do go through transformations or personal makeovers due to their indivual challenges.

Enjoyment - 10/10
Hakomari is my favourite light novel for a reason. the very first volume takes place in literally one classroom and for most of the volume the setting never changes. Even though the setting doesn't change the story and characters are phenomenal and I was simply drawn in and wasn't let go until I finished all 6 volumes. All 6 volumes are unique, diverse and above all interesting and enjoyable. Hakomari is simply a masterpiece.

Overall - 10/10
I wish more people would recognise the masterpiece that is Hakomari. Today's manga and anime industry is flooded by copy-paste, bland and unoriginal content that uses the same formulas. Hakomari surpasses these constraints and manages to pull off a unique concept flawlessly. If you haven't done so already go pick up Hakomari now and get nice and comfortable because you're about to go on a ride that you'll likely never want to get off of.

Youkoso Jitsuryoku Shijou Shugi no Kyoushitsu e review
Classroom of the Elite is the first-ever light novel series that made me read two volumes a day. I don't usually enjoy the type of atmosphere this story gives, but the first volumes were page-turners. Although engaging for a lot of people in the light novel community - is the story as a whole good? My answer would be no. Enjoyment does not equal an objectively good story. And it took me a while before I decided to write a review so I could remove any bias I may have. I don't want it to look like I completely hate the story (Which I don't), so I'll just say this now that this review is mainly criticizing the flaws of the story. Spoilers ahead.

Let's begin by quoting a question at the beginning of the novel series.

"Are humans truly equal?"

Starting the story with this line made me question how good this series was deemed to be. Not only does it sound pretentious, but it's also laughable as the answer for this question, since the begging of time, is "no." Any rational human being would come to the same answer. Address a topic or situation concerning any human status and I'll gladly list all inequalities within these topics.

The story takes place in a school supported by the Japanese government to nurture students who are to lead the country in the imminent future. They don't accept students with academic superiority alone but students who are also competent in separate fields like judgment, physical ability, and cooperativeness. So everyone has a chance to enter the school. But it just seems too easy. Each year 160 students from all over Japan can enter the school, meaning that 160 out of millions of students in Japan are selected to enter the country's top school. This concept makes me question why students like Ike and Sakura got accepted in the first place. With the school's standards, and with the benefit of the doubt, I can understand why Sudou got accepted in the first place, and why students like Koenji and Horikita are in class D despite their overwhelming competence. But students with straight C's in all the fields by logic should not have passed the school's standards. It's the same flaw I find with My Hero Academia with students like Mineta and Hagakure passing UA High school and in the hero course as well. It may look like I'm nitpicking students, but it's been made clear that there are many students not only in class D but scattered throughout the entire school that are incompetent in all fields of ability.

These said students, after passing the entrance exams and the interview, are then assigned to a class decided by their abilities. This is the part of the narrative where the author associated the question involving equality, but inherently, does that even matter? Are the different classes representing the different levels of people in society? The higher classes as a representation of those with power and the lower ones as powerless? It just fails to use the flawed school system and characters as a representation of how cruel and difficult society can be.

Yes, I used the word flawed as an adjective for the school system and characters, basically everything about the story that is deemed to be what makes it not like other light novels. Although I do admit the story does have an intriguing premise, it's still a generic light novel written by a mediocrity who knows how to attract an audience.

Let me tell you why the school system is flawed. I've explained some flaws at the beginning of my review but allow me to give more. How rich is Japan? I mean, the school basically gives free money to the students each month, supplies the items in each store throughout the school including an entire mall. Not to mention that the school hired all the employees for all the stores, owns crews ship, and gives extra class points and private points given as awards for tests. It's not even a matter of how rich Japan is but how much they are willing to invest in the school. While the school's goal is to nurture the country's elites, it's still basically throwing money into a pit of fire as there is no reason for the school to use its current regulations to raise the "best" students of Japan. Not to mention the school's rules that have conveniently been left with holes so they can be bent for the sake of the plot.

Now for the characters. We have the perfect cast to create a generic high school classroom. A school bully who can't control his temper, a sociable and handsome class representative who the girls yearn for, an annoying girl who is in a "relationship" with the said handsome class representative, the class genius, a bunch of morons who have no special qualities (As I said, they shouldn't even have passed the school's standards, to begin with), and the popular girl who is secretly a yandere with her big fucking tiddies. Let's also not forget the protagonist who sits at the back of the class just left of the school windows who is secretly the second coming of Jesu- I am getting way too informal as the review progresses. My point is, this is not a light novel where it deserves the title of "not like the other novels." It has the formula for a generic story just with a different setting. Furthermore, Ayanokyouji "tries his best" to hide his competence yet he recklessly goes overboard on special tests from time to time like the race with Horikita Manabu, which has the sole purpose to introduce Sakayanagi, nothing more. Maybe he's not as smart as the author portrayed him to be. Also, what's up with fifteen to seventeen-year-olds looking like divorced fathers in their forties with two kids that chose to live with their mother? I'm looking at you Katsuragi, Albert, and Kitou.

There is something as being too edgy, and that's this light novel. Any dialogue not involving logistics are dramatic and corny. But I guess this was the reason why this light novel series is popular, as its target audience holds a large percentage in the anime community.

Feel free to give Classroom of the Elite a try if you like stories like Oregairu or Hyouka or just highschool stories in general. Don't give in to the hype though, because the premise is not as realistic as other reviews made it seem to be, and the characters aren't at all relatable. If you think I may be wrong with any of these statements or if I left something out, feel free to discuss it with me as my main objective is not to hate on the story but to give voice to the minority.

Uwa-Koi review
I do not know why people criticizes much this series... Well in a sense i can understand since the Main Character is full of bullshit and has a superiority complex that all women would fall for him.
I dropped the series because how much anger this main character gave me(also back then the series wasn't finished translation too)... and for worst most of the girls do actually spread their legs to him so easily as if he was some kind of god!
That is the only bullshit i find on the series which made me drop it.

HOWEVER!!!! There is another side of the coin...

You have too look into the deep meaning of this story... and years after i first read this manga and dropped it, and after i encountered it again, i realize a few things based on comments and actions of real life men around the world and the bullshit they write on comments and forums regarding sex (and hentai).

This story shows that going banging girls around is not a game, that sex is not a game, that cheating is not "fun and games".

It shows that THERE ARE CONSEQUENCES for irresponsibility.

Many people i've seen around (Which I take the chance to give them a slap of reality when i encounter them), complaining and writing comments about harem anime/manga when the Mc shows hesitant to bang a girl, the people call this Mc a wimp, or sissy... when most of those Mc are just being RESPONSABLE.

People actually want the Mc to just jump all the harem girls' bones, consequences be damned.
There are also actual people in realize who just go bang girls around without thinking about consequences or responsibilities and then run away like cowards when karma comes to them with a vengeance.

This story shows that... shows the result of a Man who bang any girls he encounter without thinking of the consequences that those actions could bring.
It shows how irresponsible sex WILL end up.
Shows how Irresponsible people who cares about nothing will end up.
This is not a game people.

A TRUE MAN takes decision based on analysis of the situation thinking responsibly and having in mind the consequences that could bring any and all actions he take on a negative level.

I guess this is the reason why most people, specially the men, who read this series don't like it.
Because its a slap of reality.
Yes, reality is not a fairy tale and if you act like this main character and act irresponsible, THERE WILL BE CONSEQUENCES.
Most of them in real life has already payed for theirs... but they just curse live or God, blaming anyone but themselves for their own actions.

So next time you want to jump an innocent girl's bones... mind break them, or abuse her, or rape, or just simply have casual sex for just a night of loveless passion... THINK OF UWA-KOI...
And measure your thoughts and possibilities before taking action.
BE A TRUE MAN, A RESPONSIBLE MAN.
--
Also, this also goes to women who lately also had been rising on these irresponsible acts and accepting sex plays without thinking on the consequences... and the story also reflects on them.
But you know what is sad?
That these people will never learn... and most of them will continue on doing the same mistakes.

People goes around saying: "yeah lets have sex, its all fun and it makes you feel good! nothing bad will happen!" or "Lets all be sex friends and have orgies or gang bangs, its all fun!" or "Lets go do some rape or sexual harassment, or mind breaking for the thrills!"
Then shit hits the fan and this happens... then you see them desperate and running like cowards when karma comes to reclaim the debts. This includes both men and women.

Even worst, the characters in this story were all children... which makes it worst... and in real life children also are being influence to participate in these "games" on their own without thinking on the consequences.

This story is a slap of reality to those who believe sex is just a game, a good thing to pass time... then something like this happens.
What saddens me is how people who engage in these acts make fun of those who actually are responsible and reserve themselves to participate in such things. Calls them lame and other things... because "nothing will happen"... boy how are they wrong... things does happen... bad things... real life is cruel. And those who refuse to engage in these acts are saving themselves from grief.

You know... at first when I started to read this story. I thought that with all the crap the Mc went through in the beginning, he was going to try to make himself a better person, to strive to be better
I thought that it was going to be just another romance harem series with a Nice passive guy who is indecisive between the girls in his harem like most are and then in the end he had to chose or story would be inconclusive, boy was I wrong.... but no... he went the other way and became an irresponsible sociopath prick that acted without thinking on the consequences and then ruined many people's lives because of it... and worst is that He didn't care.
It was not until getting raped himself when he started to "Turn a new leaf" but by the it was too late.
His dark karma was way to big and heavy... and he didn't even get to start doing the right thing... as he was killed out of revenge by another dude who's mind got broken by these irresponsible actions and witnessed something that broke him.
The series ended as it did because the author tried to teach us something... teach us that reality is a bitch and if you are not responsible you have to pay dearly soon after for your actions.
In the end, everyone in the SF club paid for their sins in X or Y ways... some of them came out not so harmed than others but they still had to taste karma.
Sad thing is that that these people will never learn... and most of them will continue on doing the same mistakes over and over again without remorse or not caring about the consequences those actions will bring to themselves and the ones around them.
Honestly Yuki came out of it pretty easily... being run over by a trains is merciful compared to worst things that could happen.

Paranoia Star review
I can't tell whether Suehiro Maruo is simply very confident in his means and purpose of storytelling, or whether he's really somewhat ill at heart.
The stories in this collection, depending on whether you could classify them as individual or as one larger narrative, are made up of things that most people don't like. I wondered what cave men might have thought had I shown them Paranoia star. Well, to begin with, most of these pictures would be far too alien to resonate with them, however, I believe that the graphic scenes of violence which are especially prominent in the later parts of the book might be universal to everyone, no matter the sensibilities and time period. And, if they were to occur in reality as they do in this book, human life would not be the only one to be profoundly disturbed by it. Now, to tell you some of what the book is physically concerned with, it seems there is very little. Thematically, it is either mostly comprised of human darkness and horrific fantasy, or too obscure for our generation or foreign culture, and perhaps its significance went over my head. It isn't uncommon that fleeting or lingering emotions become the sole or most prominent subject of art in Japan. You will often see poems and short films that have no ulterior purpose but to remind you of a certain sensation or atmosphere.
In the earlier stories, people desire to become machines and those who are already machine-like do not relish it. Many of the later stories have to do with world war II. If you are more culturally educated than I am, then, perhaps you will gain something significant out of these. If not, you might be left feeling down and somewhat angry, but mostly confused, much like war itself. That isn't to say that all the stories are equally dreary and confusing. One of the later stories, Genpin, is perhaps my favorite out of the collection. It is by far easier to follow and more solid than many of the other stories in the collection, and I would definitely consider it worth reading, partly for its length (Which is very short.)
I also liked the first story (Chinese Moonspeak?) and the first Electric Ant. The art, which I haven't nearly given enough credit so far, is amazing. It's despicable, and conveys that perfectly.
My final word is that there is no goodness in these stories. If you do not mind that, or are already accustomed to Suehiro Maruo, then you might find these demented fantasies appealing. That is my final warning, and my recommendation.
One of the stories (planet of the japs, a nightmare about the war) has been printed in English in the Underground Comics Japan anthology, which is now very cheap and out of print. For the rest of the collection, you will have to look for online translations, like I did.

Black Gakkou ni Tsutometeshimatta Sensei review
Black Gakkou ni Tsutometeshimatta Sensei is another one of those series of super hot girls who love a stupid individual with no personality and unable to perform normal actions for any human being, which would "theoretically" serve to identify us with him. A theory that would only work if we had some sort of disorder.

The story(2/10): The plot is banal, nothing that happens interests you, everything is focused on what will be the next crazy thing one of the girls will do against their teacher, which is only productive for the ecchi. All the dramas developed are pathetic and just thrown in the middle of the story.

Art(7/10): This is the only really good point in the work. The art is really beautiful, it manages to do well its role which is to attract the reader sexually, since all the characters are really well drawn.

Character(3/10): Like many works of the genre, the characters only exist for sexual jokes, they have no charisma and much less identity, all the female characters are endlessly perverted with slight traces to differentiate them. The male protagonist is an egg.

Enjoyment(3/10): The only thing that the manga has as artifices to arrest the reader are the erotic scenes and the comedy. The comedy is pretty weak most of the time and very repetitive, having one or two moments that you will get some laugh out of the corner of your mouth. The ecchi, as I said, is good, but, very spoiled by the pauses the manga takes to develop an unfounded plot.

Overall (3/10): Overall, the manga is really bad, an ecchi that even though it fulfills its purpose, it fails in dozens of other aspects, being even shameful to have the romance tag, since this theme is so poorly explored. In short, only read this if you like a sensual plot and hot girls.

Honey na Koto review
first off: this is my first time writing a review, so i can only hope it'll be useful to you. I'll also be happy to receive feedback!

STORY
the storyline was well thought-out, without any gaps or sudden developments which would make it hard to follow.
Overall it has a more mature feel to it than usual shoujo manga (more josei-ish), there's none of that childish lighthartedness, first-love-heartbeat feeling, none of those typical standard-happenings (like tripping and accidentally kissing), so if you're a sucker for those, this is probably not your thing.

A big plus in my opion is, it's about a relationship and how they fare going through good and bad stuff - not about the obstacles to overcome to get together (i've read one too many of those stories, i guess)

I really liked that it doesn't get too 'angsty', though tamako (the heroine) is really insecure at times, it's still limited because the characters are on the whole rather composed people. however, their feelings still get across very well and they're easy to relate to, especially since the reader gets to peek into the male leads perspective every now and then, too. That's what i liked a lot, it made their actions seem reasonable and i think it helped me to dive more into the plot and relate myself to the characters and the situation they're in. (e.g. i have no interest in surfing, but i found myself wanting to try it out after i got a little further into the story)

Sadly, the ending is a little abrupt, it would've been better if it had been just a chapter longer. Except for that, the length is just perfect, matching the pace of the story.

ART
the artwork is good, a little rough at times and not too detailed, but i liked it. Simple but nicely done. fitting for the characters, in my opinion.

CHARACTER
the heroine is a normal, hardworking, good girl, but still not the typical stereotype shoujo-girl, because she's actually strong at heart, and while she does have insecurities and troubles with her feelings, her actions aren't over the top.
the male lead is serious, down-to-earth and mostly thinks things through before acting. He's caring and very sweet at times, but appears cold and insensitive at other times, partly because he IS a little dense and oblivious to whats emotionally going on between or with others.
I really liked how the characters had their own distinctive traits and always behaved accordingly, never out of character. it makes it much more realistic, having you think 'hey, there really could be someone like that in this world'

ENJOYMENT
so, i can say I pretty much enjoyed reading this, and it kept me on it, so i actually finished it in one go. It's just perfect if you've got an hour or two, since it's not too long.

OVERALL - good
i prefer realistic plotlines, so my rating might be a little biased, actually... but if you happen to be the same, i definitely recommend this! ;) all the same if you just want to go for something different for once.
