Solo Leveling review
Solo leveling was a pretty entertaining and fun read for the first 100 chapters before the main character became an isekai protagonist. The first 50 chapters were a good 8, then the next an average 7, and now it lays at a low 6, the show falling to purely generic instances. Now don't get me wrong, I still read the weekly chapters, but not with the intensity as the previous ones. I'll admit I was considering putting the first season as one of my favorites, as trashy as that is, but the second season was like milking a dead cow and squeezing out content, without the vibrancy or the quality of the first season.

*Season One (Chapters 1-110)

With probably one of the most intense beginnings in all of Manga, my thoughts can only immediately go to the story of Solo Leveling. Known worldwide as the “World's weakest hunter”, we follow the tale of the Korean 22 year old and how his life changes. Choosing to become a hunter as a job, he gets the rank of E, and has no powers. However he still goes into gates, portals that open up across the world where monsters reside and dominate, where when the boss is defeated the gate closes. After being left in a particularly dangerous dungeon for dead, with 18 dying before him, an alert box appears in his vision 0.02 seconds before he dies, welcoming him to something mysteriously titled “The system”, saying that he fulfilled the requirements to become a “player”. Call it a generic twist I can agree, but the execution is what makes the manga. We follow the newly re-awakened hunter Sung Jin Woo evolve and grow. Where it is literally impossible for hunters to get stronger, Solo Leveling tells the tale of the one hunter who could get stronger, and all the repercussions that happen because of that allowing for some insane fights and amazing art.

One of the things I really liked about the first 100 chapters was the world created. So many Manhwa and power fantasy stories have these generic fantasy worlds, focusing on making the main character stronger, and forgetting all other aspects of the world. However, the Solo Leveling took time to slowly integrate the world, dungeons, and gates throughout the story. Unlike many of these other stories that throw all the information at the beginning and never mention it again, the story gives you just enough in the beginning to make you understand and let you go in blind. The 10 chapter greatness that was the first arc was the perfect setup. It introduced so many things along the way while still having minimal conversation using the first arc's fights and circumstances to make it a riveting introduction to the world. It built a world similar to ours that depends on these gates and these hunters, slowly integrating piece and piece of information that creates these instances and the place around the MC. It sets up lots of chapters in advance, the world functions as a world, and things build up and set in play that only gets explored after two or three arcs. We learn about the various types of hunters, gates, and organizations, hunter or not. The Gates were also fantastic, each a different environment and new horizons to be explored. Despite being portals to magical worlds, they were all different missions that somehow explored more of their world and power systems, providing all of those and some sick fights. They were pseudo "missions" to other worlds and one thing you look forward to in the beginning chapters. The world was fascinating, new things popping up each arc, and was only part of the greatness that was Solo Leveling’s first season.

The story also paid careful attention to its power system and characters. While at first, it was the generic "Leveling" power system that you could attribute to many games or isekai, it paid careful attention to the system and added certain attributes, certain kinks, and certain powers that made it the story's focus. The mysteries of the system were slowly unraveled, and the abilities grounded. It became a fully fleshed out power system that had both good and bad, the MC using it actually in a smart way, the way we would. There were some references to other works and sparks of genius, the main character taking advantage of the system, and not the other way around. And while it was the generic "level up" power system, it wasn't used because it was easy to write in but to explore the world and the hunters' powers. The idea of having the Hunters start with a set amount of power and never have it change was great. Just about every show with “powers” allows their participants to get stronger, but it was a great shift on the system where you had the main character with this leveling power, compared to the world where people could not level up. With all the information they added for the power system, we received a complete power system that seemed pretty straightforward but complex enough to match the greats.

Same with the characters. While it was more apparent in the first 50 chapters, the characters were actual characters, not the peanut gallery that hyped up villains in the most generic way possible. Characters had unique and fun designs that fit their personalities, and there were no oversexualized characters. The show had various characters ranging from ones with small arcs, purely strong ones, unique personalities, and even waifus. They were all little pieces of the world that told specific stories and helped build up the world and the story in general. They would each represent certain aspects of the world, from the poor hunters to the wealthy hunters, to the crazy hunters to all the thousands of different hunter classes. And while the story soon shifted to have more characters with less screen time focusing on the A and S rank hunters, they still were enjoyable as they acted like a family and rivals. The shadows(will be explained later in the webtoon) were also enjoyable despite having no diagoulge. Amazingly, their emotions and personalities were conveyed purely through still images, and I wouldn't say no to having a chapter that is just the shadows interacting. Before I finish the first season, two more things: the main character and the art, the main reasons people read Solo Leveling.

The art in Solo Leveling is some of the best ever made. Usually, I prefer black and white Manga, as art looks better there. Many movement blurs, movement lines in the background, and starburst that symbolize hitting, are left out in the colored versions, looking out of place there. These colored comics usually look like still pictures, with the majority of the colored ones making me wish it was in black and white with uneven coloring, shading, and bad fight art. However, none of these complaints apply to Solo leveling. If Vinland Saga's Manga is the king of black and white art, Solo levelings Color is the king of all colored art. Period. While it does start a bit "meh" in the first 30 chapters, it gets so good after that. The fights here are also phenomenal on par with the taijutsu you see in Naruto. Technical to a fault, it's not about who can make the bigger explosion, but how to outsmart and beat your opponents, each character showcasing different and colorful abilities. In the first half, the main character is still the weakest hunter, and he is forced to utilize almost every skill he has, making some fantastic fights and pay-offs that make you sigh in relief or terror. Each fight will leave you on the edge of your seat, the hype constantly increasing the moments that blow your mind. This is one of the few works(Like Vinland Saga) where I only will read the Manga, the art never able to be fully replicated in an animation, Madhouse, Ufotable, or not.

The main character also had a good development as he acclimated to his surroundings and became a top tier chad. While he didn't have a character arc on the level as the best characters in anime/manga, it did exceptionally well for the series it was in and made you root for him. His humble beginnings make you feel nostalgic as he almost grew up. You easily rooted for him, and he changed from the not so confident isekai protag to a more edgy refined man. Now "character development" is probably an overstatement, as all he did is become an edgy badass, but in the series favor, it did fit the change. However, it was this change into a cool older character where the story begins to crumble apart.

*Season two(Chapter 111 and beyond)
Spoilers for Season One and Season two are here, even as vague I describe them. I suggest you read some of the chapters of the story before reading this segment. But here is a spoiler-free 10-word version: Too overpowered, no tension, mysteries bad, characters bad/gone, isekai tier.

Disregarding the epic and hype-filled finale of the last season, the story begins to break apart from here, the small cracks in the first season now more prominent and more evident in the second. The story seems to forget what made the first season so great, and it wasn't an overpowered character one shot every monster. It was when he surpassed his limits, the moments where he made a new discovery, where there was a twist in the gate where the characters had their moments, and where his powers had personalities and were fun to watch. The second season disregarded those factors and decided to power up the main character so that he could beat Goku.

To be fair, the series tries to shed light on how the mysteries and unsolved cases that the first one does and the first 15 chapters were pretty okay. It gave some good buildup, good fights, and decent answers, however after "The Architect," it then began to fall. Cool reveal, but a lousy way of resolving the issue. Despite being only a "Player" of "The System," he somehow overrules the creator and comes out unscathed. The world stops revolving around the sun and revolves around him, as every event has to do with him. While there are still those pieces of information strewn across some chapters and the scenarios different, it doesn't capture the charm as it focuses purely on the fights, ignoring everything else. While the author continued with less information there, the artist didn't allow it, focusing only on the battles that lose their creativity.

Devolving into who can make the bigger explosion or one-shotting the villain, it quickly became hard to enjoy the fights now gone. While I try not to criticize a series due to its art, I have to when it's the main thing it's enjoyed for. The fights lose most of the choreography as Sung Jin Woo is just on a different level to his opponents, and he always soloes the bosses in two seconds. Because of this, tension now rarely appears, as I know that whatever Sung Jin-Woo encounters will be defeated with no problems. Now the series has become smart with handling that, as it targets other people, but the antagonists are usually always beaten as he arrives, which is always before important people die.

The characters aside from Sung JIn woo, Beru, and Igris are forgotten, holding no character in their scenes. The series seems to forget about characters and their roles, focusing purely on Sung Jin-Woo, which doesn't work anymore. His screen time seems boring, edgy in the Manga, being equivalent to having no personality. He had no room left to grow that feels genuine anymore, as it jumps and does power boosts happening too quickly. His vibrant personality disappears, and choosing to be a one-man army allows for no characters to fill in the void. In season two, many chapters of the Manga entail him talking to himself, which with his now bland personality make them hard to read. There has yet to be a single character from the last season who had adequate screen time that was on the same level as last time.

In conclusion, Solo Leveling was a fun and interesting manga that was a self-fulfillment power fantasy that first coated itself with a great world, writing, and characters. However, as time went by, the paint wore off, and we received a hype but shallow webtoon that stand on the face of webtoons, but nowhere near the top 12 manga. While the second season wasn't as enjoyable as the first, it still did the job well, and if you have time to binge a manga, this should be the first one on your list.

Overlord review
I wrote this review for the novel after watching the episode 13 and also finished reading all the volumes of overlord that had been released so far, which is till volume 9. So I have at least quite an understanding of the story so far. But I would not put any spoilers in the review and just general info that people can see from the novel's synopsis description.

But before I write my review, there is this one glaring point of the series's story setting that a lot of people seemed to be confused about lately that I have to point out.

Many people tend to be confused that the main character has been stuck in the game world he is playing in but the truth is that it is Experimented and Proven many times that he is instead Transported into a new fantasy Reality world where Yggdrasil players either don't exist or uncommon to the point of being called legends that only exist hundred of years ago. The only thing he is "stuck" in is his skeleton game body when he was transported from his game virtual world to another fantasy reality world. Also another thing, he is not a kid or a teenager, but instead is a blue collar salesman.

So after clearing that up, let's start my review of the novel. I advise people to rate my review fairly with open mindedness and after proper understanding of the series and not base on personal reasons, rashness or eccentric personal bias which seems to be quite common lately...

Story: 9
The novel's story is quite dark, evil, brutal and despairing at times and the novel's story is quite detailed and exciting to read which draws in the reader's curiosity and interest in knowing more of the story, but sometimes it may be quite tedious to read the highly detailed descriptions and multiple dialogues of the story. But people who are interested more on how the story is developed would find this interesting. Some people who lacked the attention span, patience or the interest in the story and wanted more actions and excitements immediately may find the novel's start to be boring. But people who actually wanted to enjoy the story's world and development would find that it's story is quite interesting, attention to details and descriptive with points of the story from different perspective.

Many people who started reading and enjoyed the novel are there for the literature story in the first place. Some people may find the story to be developing quite slowly at times due the story development but it comes with a lot of important plot points which might have otherwise caused confusions to the readers if some info points was lacking and skipped just to make the story faster.

Art: 9
The art quality is very good, as many people had said before that the novel's are quite well done but this is something left for people's personal taste and interests... But speaking it in general, the art is very detailed, beautiful. But all in all, it is something that is well done.

Character: 9
One of the main protagonist that you will never expect to see a lot in story even till now. A skeleton as a main character with a blue collar working salesman's mentality behind it. The person is very logical, emotionless but interestingly funny at times, who does the most realistic and logical reactions and actions people should expect if they are transported into another world. Keeping up his act as an overlord outside but whining and shouting inside about tiring things and situations. He also never consider his powers to be overpowered since the his skills are known in games and always think that there is someone such as players stronger than him out there.
The introductions of the many other side characters were also very unique and interesting too. They all have their own detailed designs, personalities, settings and developments.
Sadly the only thing lacking in this novel is a strong enemy character that the main characters have to face and overcome... But it is actually fine, since story wise, the story is actually still interesting and mainly draws the viewers to be more interested on how the process the MC used took over the places or even the world, the perspective and reactions of different people in the story which you normally won't see in other stories at times, and also main point of the story that is expected of how the strong overlord crush the enemy in the end after the intended development for it along with the expectations and despair which all together makes it something even more interesting and refreshing to see too, just like picking the fruits after it is ripe for the taking.
Also it seems there are people rating down the series due to the mc not having an usable underpart? Well, he can actually do it if he wants to and afterall, it's also better for the mc to think logically than thinking using his lower body like some other pervert mcs which are annoying. Besides, it seems pointless for some people to even point this out to talk down a good series.

Enjoyment: 10
Well the novel may not be a master piece for some people. But it story is a great literature that is the most descriptive, well developed, highly rated and one of the higher quality light novel out there that is highly encouraged by many people to read it to understand their world even more. That is the novel's purpose, as there are many people who enjoyed the novel are there for the literature story in the first place.

Also, there are points which mainly show how different it is from some more commonly known similar series stories settings.

Firstly, unlike the typical hero fantasy stories that are a dime of dozen out there already with almost Similar and Familiar stories and settings. Of course a story from a villain's perspective would perk people's interest than the typical power from friendship troupes, where you always would expect a certain people to survive in the end or just simply no one dying at all. With many things that are being quite common these days, this actually make this novel more unique and stands out.

Secondly, in this world where pretty much everything was cliche, a different, darker virtual gaming world to another world story is actually more new and interesting to people comparing to the typical virtual game or reality to fantasy stories that are quite common out there like no game no life, log horizon, SAO, problem children, etc with similar familiar overlapping fantasy settings or even other different typical stories with a shiny hero or a dense innocent kind mcs, instead a setting different from the typical familiar ones would be fresher one to see.

Finally, if people Do want to immense themselves in settings, atmosphere, plots and details of the story other than just immediate mindless action stories that are dozens out there, they would definitely welcome this novel. Given how much of a potential this novel's story have, even till the latest volume I had read so far.

Overall: 9
Overall, the novel is quite an interesting and addicting read for a story, if the further story's volume continues to be just as interesting to read, it will still easily continued to be rated 9 by me.

Do Not Fight review
OK, I will take a stab at reviewing this first.

This is my first time reading the work of Yeon Young-Hee so I will not complain about the art (even though I already did, I will mention it again)...

Story
Having said that, the story could have been a solid one. COULD have been. Even with 32 chapters there should have been no reason for the plot to fall and fail. I give story an 8 because I thought it was slightly innovative. The beginning was solid and clear. I actually think the first two chapters were the best chapters in the whole entire manhwa that successfully executed the plotline, character development, and pacing.

Art
I do not have that many problems with the art, I DO have problems with the scanning. I can understand being short-staff and not having the experience (for I do work with a scanlation group, I understand the pressure) however, I can not forgive what happened to the poor maid in "Do Not Fight"! To put it in a funny way, the maid gives new meaning to Chiaroscuro. You'll see what I mean. It was only the maid that was never scanned properly. Just her. And only her. Unforgivable...

Character
Character? What is that? It seems that the manhwaka felt like creating a new character every 5 chapters. I didn't mind it much but why the unnecessary people? I don't mean it in a bad way, but I seriously mean that there are characters who were reocurring and even though they seemed important to the plot, they weren't. Example, the female lead meets an Indian man in the Bahamas (strange, it appears that there are many white faces in the Bahamas, no black people... hmmm) and he only served his purpose for ONE page. Yet, they keep bringing him back. I'll admit, he was my favorite character.

Btw, the opposite can be said for characters that hardly had a role. There was one girl who's character was never created. No face no anything, yet her name caused so much stress for the male lead. Why was she never created? You hear about her for two pages and that's it!

Continuing on, it seems that the manhwaka favors most of the men in the series as she decided to keep all 3 supporting characters on standby. I awfully feel bad for the male lead as his fake wife appears to be in her own harem! The husband who is said to be a playboy is literally (but not literally) seen with another woman twice (no this is not a spoiler since it's had no influence on the plot) in the whole manhwa. I understand him for falling in love with her and then getting angry when she refuses his advances. I mean, she silently obeys every other man in the manga, why not her own husband? She gets teary-eyed everytime she sees a woman a yard from him. She gets jealous when she hears a woman talk to him or even talk about him. I can't validate her being suspicious of her husband when she clearly goes on dates with other men. Example...

Mini-Spoiler(I hate doing this but it has to be done)
Our female lead Nora meets this guy Peter. Her husband, Ralph can automatically smell playboy on him and is uneasy about them meeting. Peter invites Nora to a party and he gets her drunk. Ralph was there and he takes Nora back to her room. The next day or so, Nora meets with Peter again and he shows her a family of wild dogs. Her lines annoy me the most at the moment "I think you're very kind Peter. Because you like animals" What. The. Facula. Considering the fact that we know nothing about this guy and after we first meet him he pulls a douche move and gets her wasted, the only thing on her mind is not the man who brought her back safely, but the man who happen to find some cute dogs! Somehow the manhwaka felt the need to use this Peter guy again in the imminent chapters but he still has not gotten my sympathy. The manhwaka tried to create his background but did not try hard enough which brings me to another point.

Enjoyment
THIS MANHWA HAS MANY INCONSISTENCIES. It is all up to you whether or not you mind it. I did not write much about them only because after the first 5 inconsistencies I gave up and just assumed what was going on. Also, if you do plan on reading this, read from Mangahere because I put a lot of tsukommis in that manhwa. Only if you don't mind reading from Mangahere, I don't prefer it, but for this one I had to make my comments known. Many times I tsukkomi'ed about the maid or inconsistencies I found. I'll let it go for the review (maybe) but there was no way I could let it pass when I first read it. And I did complain a little bit about the art but not really...

Overall, this story had a good start but it crashed in the middle and exploded at the end. From what I've gathered, to solve a marriage someone has to go to a nursing home and sex has to happen. iight bro, makes sense. But hey, when has there ever been a manga/manhwa with a great last chapter? Oh wait... there are tons of stories with fantastic endings. This one has no excuse. I don't want to see the whole "the ending had to be rushed" or "it had to end unexpectingly" because from chapter 4 all the way to the end was comprised of rushing. In one page, 2 months went by. In another page, 6 months went by. In 2 pages, 6 years and 6 months went by. Does that paint a picture?

It seems like I have a lot of negative things to say but I'll be honest and say that I was unable to predict 55% of the things that happened in this manhwa. And that is saying a lot for manhwa because I have read so many that contained trite scenes where things didn't even need to be mentioned. Because of the summary of the story and the crazy that happens in the middle, it was fun having to solve the puzzle.

So RECAP:
Story: 8 -because of it's individuality
Art: 5 -it literally is mediocre. Even with good scanning
Character: 6 -too many characters and not enough development in them
Enjoyment: 6 -this was one of my speedy stories. I read it in one day and it is best for you to read it in one day as well
Overall: 6 -it could have been something good.

Isekai Nonbiri Nouka review
You can call me crazy rating it high as 10, but its just how I feel about the manga so far. There's only 24 translated chapters. I don't have any complaints about low ratings this manga has received. Maybe people precieve differently. But I will explain to you how I felt about Isekai Nonbiri Nouka.

First of all, its a pretty chill manga its all laid out and you just read it. You can't really expect something grand from this manga. There isn't going to be an interesting plot building up, each chapters is a whole new story. You could call it rushed but like I said before don't really expect anything to build up. Well apart the fact each chapter you have a new race joining his civilazation. Like busty elf girls-heh.

The art is actually well drawn, good body shapes heheh. This isn't a completely detailed manga but it has details that look appealing. I also think the design for the main character is fair, I think readers will like the design when they first see it.

Well our main character isn't a character with rich personality. He just a normal guy who just wants to farm and chill. He doesn't really have any ambtiion to make a harem or anything. Farming > Harem.
Apart from the fact he gets gangbanged by the female elfs.

I actually enjoyed this manga because it really brings out the calm feeling and makes you relaxed. It has plenty of nudity, well partial nudity lets call it- quite nice busty girls. Not that I am complaining or anything. I was just relaxing in my bed and reading so...

Anyway.

Overall, I think this manga is suited if you are a lazy and laid out person. You should only read this if you don't expect much from the manga. I think its quite a change to the Isekai meta, since most have a same story where you defeat the demon lord. While in Isekai Nonbiri you just farm and chill.

Edit (09/11/2018):

I noticed the chapters are getting shorter and less interesting. I think kinda lost its fun side. I won't change my ratings now, but at the moment i feel like I'd give this a 7. Since its lost its fun attribute.

17-sai review
As of now, there's only one review for this manga. When I first found this, that review almost dissuaded me from reading; honestly, I was scared of what I was about to read. It took me a couple of months before I could actually sit down and read the whole thing, so I will leave you my general impression in order to help people with doubts like me decide whether to read it or not.

To keep it spoiler free, I'll just say that the manga is a lot more "vanilla" compared to the actual crime which you can read about on wikipedia, so unless you're very sensitive there's really not a high chance of you puking over this. Having said this, the thing is that it actually sickened me, because it remembered me that in this worlsy there are people far more cruel and disgusting than those depicted on this story.

Story: 7 -> Well written, sometimes one would question the choices made by the characters, but human beings behave different under pressure.

Art: 6 -> Not gore of that's what you wanna know, about the same amount of blood you would see on a "delinquent high schooler brawl", aside from that is pretty much average.

Characters: 8 -> Not much to say, kind of generic but I like to see it as a way to say that these things happen on your everyday neighborhood, no need for a supervillain or damaged antagonist, just normal people.

Enjoyment: 7 -> As I said before, this experience was not saddening than it was exciting, so 7 is just a whim. It deserves it.

Overall: 7 -> Good read, not great though. I can't really put into words who should or shouldn't read this manga, but it is definitely worth a shot.

Thanks for reading.
