Fullmetal Alchemist review
And i finally finished it. What an amazing manga it was, i feel happy and kind of sad at the same time for finishing Fullmetal...

I liked all the characters but i don't have a particular favorite, may be Mustang for being the manly man and mini skirts ! lol The plot build up nicely, at the begining kind of wandered around with 2 mini stories that Ed and Al saved a little town from the rule of an evil priest and couldn't save a poor little girl who was turned in to a chimera by his messed up alchemist father... (That was dark, Fullmetal can be dark for a shounen at some parts like the chimera little girl and ishbalan genoside. ) and went on from there to big picture (the father of all homunculus's schemes and big evil plan) in a linear way. It was a nice ride.

Fullmetal had some classic shounen elements like never give up and importance of relying on good friends who love you and you love them back. Frinedship is magic ! in short lol you can find these in every shounen... And i was even rolling my eyes to them, even when i was a little kid... lol

I really like the consept of Alchemy, the equvelant exchange and how you create all kinds of things by it (except living beings) the transmutation circle desings were all very cool, i really liked them. The character desings were simple but very disctingtive. Fullmetal Alchemist is a true manga classic up there with The king of all things shounen Dragon Ball for me. Really well done.

Farewell fullmetal...

Death Note review
I really love Light Yagami as a character. It's so refreshing to read about a protagonist that is confident, assured and downright selfish rather than the usual beta MC people pleaser we see these days. Light doesn't do anything for his friends, his family, to save the world or to become a great warrior. He's purely fuelled by his own ego to outsmart his opponents and have the power to kill others when he pleases (that's the real reason he uses the Death Note, the peaceful world is just a pretext.)

Most of the other characters were great too, even if the main antagonists were a bit young to be believable and the mangaka tried too hard to make them eccentrics. The main female MC is probably the worst one, the way she fawns over Light even when it's obvious he is just using her becomes too apparent in some scenes, and other characters never point it out to her even when they have reason to do so. She felt too much like a plot device.

I know a lot of people dislike the second half of Death Note but I personally enjoyed it all the same, it was an interesting change of pace and led to a very satisfying and fitting ending for the series.

Death Note is one of the best psychological thrillers not just in manga but any medium, the plot twists and turns so many times and you have no idea how it's all going to turn out, it's dark and brutal without being edgy, and the lore and concept of Death Notes is interesting and a lot of fun. There's a lot of test in the series as you see the characters interior monologues as they guess and second guess themselves and each other about what to do next so be prepared for a lot of reading. I'd recommend this series to anyone, even those who don't like comics or manga.

Eden review
So I'm gonna make this one short: eden* is a masterpiece that would've deserved to become so much more popular than it did, but sadly it didn't...
Really all i have to say about this is: if you are into melancholic, bittersweet or just downright sad stories, you'll love this one. (getting SPOILER-ish here)It's the perfect example for why the ending of any story doesn't necessarily need to be bad to make it realistic, relatable or believable. And that doesn't go only for the ending, but for the entire story as a whole. Don't get me wrong, it's anything but upbeat...oh my, really, anything but that...but at the same time it's also not "in your face because we want your tears" sad or unfair. It feels right, everything that happens feels like it's just bound to have done so afterwards (which doesn't mean the story is predictable or boring in any way) and thus feels like nothing really had to be forced to make it happen by the writers. It just progresses almost by itself. Same goes for the character development. All of them just develop as the story progresses, but there's never the feeling of the story being put on hold for the sake of introducing or developing a character. They do so themselves throughout the entire story, even the ones that aren't present for extended periods of time get their fair chance of development at some point sooner or later.

It's sad to see how the works of minori often don't really get the attention they truly deserve, this one being no exception (its been so long, but naive as i am i'm still hoping for them to turn it into an anime...i mean, it worked with ef, right?)
The storywriting is exceptional in the way it merges with the character development, and even if the overall style might not be for everyone, it's undeniable that eden* is simply brilliant...
Oh, and to top that all off, it's got some awesome art as well

You know what? Go get the Visual Novel as well while you're at it. Even more amazing art, amazing storytelling and music by Tenmon just to make it all the more emotional. It's brilliant.

So is this Manga

Tokyo Shinobi Squad review
Tokyo Shinobi Squad is the newest typical shonen in the Jump. It follows what the Big Three did and, well, is as basic as you can get. A mindless protagonist that is really strong even though he doesn't look that menacing at first, with a strong sense of justice and willing to do everything for what he believes is right, wow.
The story plots (there have been like 2 or 3 short arcs) are pretty basic, but I find them refreshing because of the setting. I haven't read any manga from this oversaturated genre that is set on a cyberpunk-esque world, and even though the story is as basic as it can get, it feels slightly more original than what you can find in other shonen.
Characters are pretty standard, just one dimensional archetypes that each have their cool moments to show off what they're good at, but if you read these kinds of manga you're surely used to this. They're not deep, but are fairly enjoyable if you don't look at it with really critic eyes.
What really sets this manga apart is its character design and overall art. Yeah, the characters may look "really pretty and cute" like in most Jump manga, but I really like their simple futuristic look, even though some characters can be confused because of the low variety in face designs. What is truly impressive is the composition of battle scenes. I can feel the movement and the strength of the impacts, the "ninpo" techniques, and clearly see in my mind how they'd be animated if this was an anime. Pretty good on that area.

Overall, TSS is not bad. It won't blow your mind, but if you don't have anything to read it's pretty entertaining, as long as you look at it as what it is, a generic shonen. Also, at the time of writing this review there's only 10 chapters out, so you can get up to date really quick.

Koi no Kotoba review
tl;dr: A story that's somewhat of a mess with a few highlights, but considering how short it is that's enough makes it pretty decent.

This was a really short story, and there's not a lot to it, but considering how long it is it feels sort of right. Still the story was all over the place. The main thread is about the relationship between the two, but that itself is very rarely the issue itself, rather it seems to focus on the problems the two have, with their relationship simply being how they escape from said problems. Still, they never really have problems with each other so there's not relationship drama on that end or anything like that. As for the problems they face, Tounosuke's life is essentially frozen in place with him needing Yuuri to combat his loneliness but feeling guilty about doing so, which is his issue consistently from beginning to end and works well enough. On the other hand, Yuuri's problems are all over the place, which makes sense as her life is rapidly changing, but how plot threads pop in and out abruptly, often in random and unexpected ways is awkward. The tone and mood shifting with these was just as random. Still, having a lot of underdeveloped events works decently enough as the story ends before it can feel like it's becoming an issue. As for the relationship itself, it was actually pretty cute, which I didn't expect considering how awkward the premise was and how they seemed to be trying to take it seriously. The development is more of the type that just sort of happens going with the flow rather than something clearly built up, but that works. How it all ends I was pretty disappointed with, in that it has one of those endings that leaves things just a little bit open, where it suggests that things end well to the point of being completely obvious, but it doesn't show it, which I feel really wasn't necessary here as one last clear image with impact to close things off would have worked really well. The art was pretty good.

Mao Marimo review
Mao Marimo does a few things different in comparison to your average gender bender manga. Unfortunately, this does not save it from being entirely mediocre.

The Good: Instead of the series being a comedy about our main character Mao failing to adjust to femininity, she takes to it right away and decides that she is fine with being a girl if that is what fate has in store for her. Most everyone else takes positively to the change, too - with the exception of Mao's childhood friend Jiu, and Mao's twin sister Ako, who both initially want "her" to be a "him" again. This sort of reversed dynamic from the average gender bender, where main character's friends are struggling to change the main character back but the main character themselves accepts their new gender without any angst or any protesting that she's "really a boy", is a bit refreshing. What's also refreshing is the serious way the cause of Mao's transformation is portrayed, the guardian spirit of their village's lake who is as intimidating and otherworldly as you'd expect a great spirit to be.

The Bad: Despite the author trying to mostly keep a serious tone to the manga, all that the series really has to offer is Mao being thrown into ecchi situation after ecchi situation, each time having Mao acting more oblivious and suggestible than the last. This might have been alright if the art was half-decent or the series was actually trying to be a comedy, but neither is the case. Aesthetically the series is pretty sub par, and the only plot development comes in the form of generic love triangles that the author tries and fails to present in a serious tone - Mao falling for an older man that has no interest in her, Jiu falling for his childhood best friend "as a girl", and Ako falling for her twin brother "as a boy". None of these relationships are handled remotely interestingly, all that ever happens is the usual misunderstandings, blushing, and the occasional tsundere moment. And Mao herself is infuriatingly devoid of any real characterization or development. She seems to just accept whatever everyone else in the story wants, even when they're acting like complete idiots or jerks.

All in all, I won't go so far to call it a bad manga, but it's probably not worth your time.
