This manga features beautiful art, some prime comedic timing, and some very attractive love interests (from the mains to small side characters). That's enough to earn it a 7 in the shoujo category, but it deserves a 5 in reality.
Prepare to cringe continually as Kazuma, the "plain" young English teacher, marries the pretty and violent orphan, Fumino. Try to laugh off the regular cosplay scenes set up by this perverted professional, who takes an inappropriate (and never fully explained) interest in this flip-flopping pure-but-actually-super-thirsty 16-year-old girl. I'm cringing even as I write this review, but that's the reality of the storyline. If a girl is as inexperienced as Fumino, she should be thinking stuff like "geez I would like to hold hands" rather than throwing herself at him for some kind of love scene. Kazuma goes back and forth between "she is so young; I shall treasure her and preserve her purity" to "I'm at my limit, I'm going to take everything from you, child" in a matter of seconds. Seriously, like he'll be saying both things just a few panels apart.
At first, you kind of root for everyone trying to split them up, because...yeah, it's just super wrong to be married (and so unnecessary). Then you get bored of all the absurd complications, such as Kazuma's estranged family...suddenly having a say in things? What? Am I misunderstanding the terms of estrangement?
The end of the series is the most frustrating part, excluding Kazuma's awesome younger brother, Shouma, who kept me alive with his candidness and beautiful, beautiful face. Let Kazuma keep being impractical, and let Fumino keep crying at the drop of a hat (she's strong and can fight, but for all the talk of "she smiles more with Kazuma"--it really looks like she's tearing up more than anything), but so long as I have Shouma to give a breath of fresh air to the story, I can give it a 7.
But just because it's shoujo.
