Senryuu Shoujo review

tl:dr on bottom

This is a lot better than I thought it would be.

The story follows a girl who only writes in senryuu (basically haikus) and a guy who looks and acts like a delinquent that are in the literature club together at school. It's about what you would expect from a 4-koma comedy sprinkled with a touch of romance, but for some reason it's just really good. The comedy revolves around facial reactions, deadpan humor and funny misunderstandings, but the story is mainly carried by the characters.

I personally find the majority of the characters not very interesting, but the three main characters all have their own interesting personalities that more than makes up for the rest. I can't say that they're very original in their own sense, but the way the author draws out each of their respective traits is what makes them new and fresh. The relationship between the two mains is very very slow, but I personally think it's worth it to see the miscommunication and embarrassment that rise between the two

With all that out of the way, the best part to me about this manga is the art. The author is amazing at visual humor, often changing styles to emphasize a joke or emotion. It's something that can't be put into words and must be experienced.

Overall, this manga is a blast to read through. No chapter really goes through without it's own funny or touching moments, and the author really knows what they're doing. Check out the first few chapters to get a feeling of what the entire thing is like

tl:dr- average everything elevated by really funny art and deadpan humor
