Ao Haru Ride review

I am conflicted in giving this a 7 or a 8 overall. I will keep it low because I have one great problem with the male lead.

I will try to write the review spoiler free, but let me say that even if it's a shojo and characters are bound to be irritating at times, Ko is too much irritating -a lot of times.
While Futaba has her bad moments but she tries to change and to be herself, Ko seems often to do things because he has to, not because he wants to. He continously seems to try to protect himself from being hurt, but often he does not care to hurt Futaba. And it annoys me. Of course there is the "final change" but it seems the build-up is too short.
For the rest, the other characters are well fleshed (not astonishing, but you don't end thinking that they are paper figures put there only to raise the page number) and the story flows well even if it's very typical for a shojo with misunderstandings, some drama (not excessive like in other titles) and especially love not treated in an unrealistic way. This is helped by the fact it is not very long, wich keeps the interest high during the reading. All in all I enjoyed it a lot apart the flaws I descibed earlier.
