Rokudou no Onna-tachi review

This is one of those series where the synopsis does the material zero service. For one, the insinuated "Harem" aspect will probably turn off those who aren't into that sort of thing and expect the series to be a trashy ecchi manga. Number two; people who DO what that sort of series will be sorely disappointed, as it contains very little ecchi or romance to begin with.

Instead, Rokudou no Onna-tachi is actually a cleverly written, funny, and off-the-rails battle shounen series with a ton of heart; which I wasn't anticipating from the plot summary...

The characters are definitely the outstanding highlight of the series, so much growth occurs throughout the cast, most of them hardly resemble themselves from earlier on in the story. Every one is really likeable and have well developed motivations and reasoning behind their actions. The crux of the story, the protagonists "harem curse", is actually used in a smart way, and not in a creepy way like I was expecting. That's largely thanks to Rokudou, the titular character, being a really likeable and admirable lead.

The art in this series has its quirks that take getting used to. I think the misconception that this series is more of an ecchi-harem makes the art style a bit jarring at first. From a action-comedy perspective however, the art works incredibly well. There are some action scenes that took me aback with how well drawn and creatively laid out they were, and it only improves as the series continues. So if you're just looking for attractive girls looking attractive; you're not gonna find what you want, but if you want some really good action, you'll get it in spades.

Honestly I was very surprised by Rokudou no Onna-tachi; this is a really fun battle-shonen that I think any fan of the genre should check out. All-in-all, I think this series deserves a really solid 9 out of 10, it's truly a hidden gem!
