Yofukashi no Uta review

I actually like this manga. It’s not amazing but it’s okay. Reading the synopsis, I was just wondering if it will be a manga worth a 2/10 or a 3/10.
I can confidently say that I’m not into vampire fantasies. I never liked Twilight even when I was at the right age to like it, Vampire Diaries is an abomination of a TV series, Vampire Knight is plainly bad etc
You get the point, I’m not a huge fan of the genre, It’s not a biased opinion here.

So, why do I like Yofukashi no Uta? It’s clearly not perfect but it has some good points. While reading chapters after chapters, I hoped that the manga will not ditch its basic synopsis for a trashy random rom/com between the main characters. And it did not. The duo does carry the rom/com but within the storyline. It’s a good point, it’s a crucial one in fact. If I summarize the manga through 49 chapters, you can recognize the work if you know it, it will to be too generic. Too many times I’ve read an interesting and unique start to a manga, just to see 4 chapters later the storyline being completely throw out of the window and replaced by something trivial.

That being said, there’s a major problem hindering my note here: the side characters. The main duo is not incredible but it gets the job done, it’s complementary and the pacing is good.
But Jesus the rest of the cast is utterly bad. It’s just a bunch of clichés, no personality whatsoever, they literally have no souls, it’s plainly boring. I don’t like any of their interactions with the main duo, it’s just pointless every time. I think the only person I can appreciate is the best friend Akira. She’s the only one who doesn’t make me sigh every time she opens her mouth.
There’s always room for improvement though.

For some reason, I really love the art of the main girl. It’s nothing special but every time Nazuna appears on a page, I’m just fascinated by her design. This doesn’t really apply for anyone else besides her, better than nothing.

Don’t expect an incredible plot, while it’s not necessarily common, it gets the job done. The vibe the manga gives is really soothing at times, especially in the beginning with those night views.
You should try this manga, it’s worth the shot.
