Youkai Ningen review

This manga starts out okay but completely collapses half way through, which is made worse by the fact that is an incredibly short manga, thus making it feel even shorter than the two volumes it actually is. It starts out somewhat interesting, though quite cliché, with it being a death game type manga with a protagonist that seems competent enough, decent writing, and tricks that weren't super amazing, but fair enough. But about half way through it changes to something completely random, full of completely arbitrary twists that don't have any impact at all because the reader has no investment in what they're related to, and a backstory that doesn't seem to justify what happened in the first half at all. There's also a romance between the hero and heroine, that has a decent enough start, but it reaches its conclusion instantly, so even though the ending focuses on finishing that properly, it's a weak attempt that has no impact whatsoever. The art was okay.

tl;dr: A decent start that turns into a convoluted mess.
