Virgin na Kankei review

"An Innocent Relationship" is a story around immoral gags in a mildly-aware setting, not one of depth and intriguing character development.

This had potential to be much more than it is. At its best, the story is around anxiety troubling relationships and how not being open enough can lead to dissatisfaction. For a time the MC makes poor choices that seem to be building up to some bigger point, but nothing strong enough comes of it. Because of this, many readers will come to hate the main character - who honestly is pretty immature beyond what I'm about to go into. There's a lot of understandable poor decision-making due to anxiety and low self-esteem, but the thing is the story itself is way too forward in placing this MC in tempting situations. It's like being fed leading questions in an interview, the story goes way too far to the point of being comically absurd. That may have been the goal from the get-go, but it sure is a shame considering how well it was starting off. When looking at how well a vaguely similar manga like "Velvet Kiss" did in terms of character development, it's hard for "An Innocent Relationship" to hold a candle to anything noteworthy.

If you can stomach through some horrible decisions and some increasingly selfish thinking, the manga can be a bit of fun. However, even I (who is usually of the most sympathetic of readers) grew extremely irritated with the MC - hoping the worst for him so he'd get smacked some sense into him.
