Well, since theres no reviews on the novel, might as well write one. I've been reading this novel for several months, probably before summer, and I eagerly await updates. So heres my 2 cents:

(Spoiler Alert)
Story: 8/10
Mahouka Koukou no Rettousei is an interesting novel with a decently unique storyline. It starts off with a touching introduction that automatically makes the reader empathize with Tatsuya: a hardworking, intelligent, but naturally untalented highschool boy. He is put into the "reserve" program, AKA "The Weeds", because he is not talented enough to be part of the main student body, AKA "The Blooms". On the other hand, his beloved sister, Miyuki, is put as the highest ranking student of all the freshmen. People automatically judge both Tatsuya and his sister, enraging Mikyuki and creating a big conflict between the "weeds" and "blooms". Fortunately, this conflict is solved without much issue, but the resentment continues to grow. After the initial fight, Tatsuya and Miyuki are "asked" to join the Public Moral Committee and the Student Council, respectively. This creates more problems as many blooms target Tatsuya. As the story continues, Tatsuya ends up showing his true talent through events during the "Recruitment period" and the "9 Schools Competition" where he becomes an invaluable asset.
What brings this story down is probably the confusing writing. Several events are barely explained (even blatantly ignored), while other events are too developed, boring the reader. Many parts must be reread several times to understand the full reading, ruining the overall effect of the novel.

Art: 7/10 (?)
Well as a novel, there are not many pictures. The few novel illustrations were well drawn and are well placed. This creates decent mood and helps the reader imagine parts of the story. However, because of the lack of art, the Art category is hard to judge.

Characters: 6/10
The biggest problem of the story is probably the sheer amount of characters. Many characters are put into the series with no background information, while many others randomly disappear and reappear. With the similarities of some names, descriptions, and the use of different names for the same characters, it becomes hard to tell who is who, forcing the audience to reread parts of the novel. This ruins the overall effect of the novel and the imagination of the readers.

Enjoyment: 9/10
Although there are several errors that hinder the reader's enjoyment, I have to say that I eagerly await every new update. Even though I get irritated at the story, I'm impressed by the storyline and i constantly want to read more. My friends who have started to read the novel (or at least the manga) wait with me for updates. As long as people are patient and understanding, this story is an enjoyable and addicting series.

Overall: 8/10
Honestly, the novel is great. It's intriguing and engaging, making the reader want to read more. The story is a little slow, especially when it develops uneventful situations. Also the writing is not clear, hindering the reader's progress. Still, this novel is worth reading, and I recommend it to all. Especially to the people who are reading the manga and are confused or want to finish the story asap.
