Love Celeb review

Love Celeb is a Shoujo, Smut, Romantic, Comedy which had a great deal of promise. However apart from the adequate art and raunchy romance, there’s nothing particularly outstanding about this manga, except its poor attempt in portraying the entertainment industry.

Kirara Nakazono is a young girl who dreams of being a top idol but her career is going no where. That all changes when a very wealthy and influential young man named Ginzou Fujiwara (Gin for short), develops an interest in her virgin body. As you’ve a probably guessed, this is yet another ‘hates him but falls in love with him’ shoujo manga, where our heroine eventually becomes some hot guy’s plaything. So you can expect the usual unrealistic crap the like Gin being able to buy his way into anything from the media to politics but this manga really takes a step further in detracting itself from reality. The main story about Kirara trying to get into the entertainment industry but somehow ending up as Gin’s object of desire… That in itself was unbelievable. But then things get outrageous when the story begins to tailor more towards the sex-charged romance rather than making the entertainment industry premise remotely logical. I really want to know what went through this mangaka’s head during the radical TV Drama chapters?

As for the characters in question; Kirara is your typical weak heroine and is also the source of some amusing comedy. Then there’s the main hero, Gin, who is the very reason behind to subtitle (King+Egoist). So you can expect their relationship to be that of a helpless rabbit, easily prayed upon and ravaged by a ravenous wolf. However there are two wolves competing for this easily attainable prize and the other is her manager… some guy with glasses. I forget his name but that shows how much of an impression megane-kun left. There are other characters that seem to come and go as they please, but they're just forgettable, not to mention those making cameo appearances from Mayu Shinjo’s other works.

Most of the people who have read Mayu Shinjo’s other works may find the artwork to be the best thing about Love Celeb. On the other hand this particular reviewer finds the art to be something you’d find in any typical shoujo manga. The are male characters all have tall handsome figures and a lot of the shoujo veterans will certainly enjoy seeing Gin all hot & bothered and in cute chibi form. The panels with any background scenery are fairly scarce; nonetheless when the backgrounds are shown it’s usually decently drawn.

Overall Love Celeb is really a manga that I have mixed feelings of. The smutty romance is pretty good, along with the comedy in the beginning and so are Kirara’s struggles to become an idol. However the story kinda sucks, as a lot of the sudden developments and random bullshit will leave anyone cringing in disbelief. What’s worse is how badly the heroine is treated (abused, beaten, continuously molested, etc.), and yet she seems to enjoy it like the lustful little tramp she is. True these are some pretty strong feelings for an unbiased reviewer; but having read something created by a mangaka, who clearly abandoned all logic to please the hyperactive fangirls, would get on any rational-thinking person’s nerves.

*Be warned, there's A LOT of sexual content.*
