Lookism review

I really enjoyed Lookism when I first picked it up, which is what makes its current state more disappointing for me.

The first 100 or so chapters are pretty solid and introduce a very interesting body-swap scenario. The main character, who was bullied for his weight in previous years, wakes up in a completely different body, with his normal body sound asleep. Basically, people start to pay attention to him and treat him with respect because he's conventionally attractive. The manhwa covers how he makes new friends while hiding the fact that he has two bodies. It was a unique sort of slice-of-life series with its supernatural twists. Keep in mind that this whole premise is what the manhwa introduces itself as. (Even the Webtoon summary still promotes this concept.)

It does stick with the original body-swapping plot for a while, but later on the chapters seem to completely change in genre. The body-swapping is barely mentioned and the main character has becoming some amazing fighter who beats up gang members.

...What?

I would have been fine if this only happened for one arc. An odd twist for sure but the manhwa was very enjoyable before, so it'll probably pick up again. It did not. I could not continue reading Lookism because it just became battle after battle after battle. I appreciate that the series is tackling darker and less discussed topics about the modern world, but the drastic change in tone made me pretty disappointed. If you're a fan action manhwa, then the current Lookism could be for you. Unfortunely, it is not for me, as what I really loved about this manhwa is now long gone.
