Last Game review

Last Game is a cute manga about a wealthy boy, whom upon meeting a girl who is better than him at literally everything, declares her his rival (and then they fall in love). It's not really much else.

The story is above average at best. It has a fair amount of shoujo manga cliches (e.g. a rival boy falling in love with the girl), and follows quite a linear path for the story. Nothing in particular stands out in the story as being particularly special or unique.

The art is appealing to the eye, but horribly generic. The characters look almost exactly the same as the characters from Shinobu Amano's other work, Wasureyuki. Even Kei and Yanagi look disconcertingly similar.

The characters were fairly interesting but not particularly fleshed out. Kujou and Yanagi were a cute couple, but how dense they were irritated me (as it always does). Kujou's friend and her boyfriend were more interesting than the main characters, to be perfectly honest.

Enjoyment was surprisingly high. It's not hard to get into the romance between Kujou and Yanagi, and I found myself rooting for them. The ending suited the manga and I'm glad it didn't leave us on a stupid cliffhanger like a lot of other shoujos do.

Overall I gave it a 7. The enjoyment factor to me is the most important, so that bumped it up a ton. I'd recommend this if you're looking for a cute romance that's light on plot, and which is easy to binge-read.
