Kamisama Hajimemashita review

I'm so angry at myself for starting this manga while it's still ongoing. I initially enjoyed the anime adaptation, and figured I'd finish off the story with the manga. I'm kicking myself so hard for that, but, at the same time, I feel like there'd be something important missing in my life if I hadn't read it. It's not often I get that attached to a story.

>Story-----------10

It had a very fast-paced beginning, which initially turned me off. I thought everything was being put out there far too quickly for such a long series, but boy was I wrong. Like any good series, it just got better and better the more I read. After watching the anime, I thought it would just be a straight-up fluffly love story, but it turned out to be a lot more complex than I thought. In my view, though there is a strong romantic element, the story is really more about companionship than romance specifically. Loneliness and trust are big themes that pop up repeatedly throughout the series.

>Art--------------10

Lovely. Very shoujo-y. Lots of beautiful scenery, characters that are clearly distinguished from each other (I often have a hard time telling male characters apart), and the mangaka manages to set exactly the right mood for every scene.

>Characters----10

The character development is definitely the best part of Kamisama Hajimemashita. Unlike a lot of manga, you're not fully introduced to the characters right away. Their stories--both their pasts and current storylines--unfold at a very nice pace that leaves you falling just a little bit more in love with them every time they appear. Even the minor characters have a lot of charm and very distinct personalities that are easy to fall in love with.

>Enjoyment----10

10/10, will continue to follow the series and probably re-read many times over once it's complete.
