"Gate: Jietai Kanochi nite, Kaku Tatakeri", I was skeptic when I decided to read this manga. I thought, it was gonna be another mediocre and boring work, which a guy with some mascot girls from military fighting against magical creatures and the military got wiped by power of magic. Then I realize that I was wrong.

Story (7/10)
In my opinion, the story of the manga has a lot of potency for being a great story, if the author made it be like some kind manga version of 'Saving Private Ryan', 'Band of Brothers' or 'Black Hawk Down'.
Unfortunately, he decided to make it to be an 'average' story of a heroic male main character, who encounters many hot girls and slapstick jokes.
For the setting of the story, the fantasy world is depicted good; the military and political setting is okay.

Art (9/10)
As a military fan, the most interesting point of the art for me is the detail of the military equipment and battle scenes. *SPOILER ALERT* The raid scene with helicopters really gave me orgasm. It's really like 'Apocalypse Now' in manga version.
And for the character's design, I think it's very good.

Character (5/10)
The main character of this manga is a First Lieutenant of JGSDF and self-proclaimed Otaku. I think, he's rather bland, another normal hero mc and another chicks magnet guy. He and his loyal subordinates are in recon team and later encountered with other characters from the fantasy world.
For some other characters, they're some kind of unoriginal and meant to be just fanservice. There are: Lelei, an innocent looking young girl who is also a sage; Rory Mercury, a gothic loli girl who is also a demigoddess (this one reminds me of Kuroneko from Oreimou and makes my pedo instinct tingling XD); Tuka, a beautiful elf girl with hot body; and Pina Co Lada, a human princess with great tits (her name is like a cocktail's name).

Enjoyment (9/10)
My personal enjoyment mostly come from the show of force of the JSDF and battle scenes. But I also enjoy the fanservice.
This manga is like jackpot for me. Two of my interests are becoming one. Usually, I was skeptical with military themed anime or manga. Because the military are depicted inferior, or teenage mascot girls playing with some big guns, or a teenage boy being badass and rambo wannabe.

Overall (8/10)
My conclusion is: this manga had a great potency, if the author would make it more serious. But the reason he made the manga to be this way because the manga itself is a propaganda work. It meant to be a media for young lads in Japan to have more interest toward JSDF.
After all, I have a good time reading this manga. I hope the anime adaptation is as good as the manga or better.
P.S. sorry for some grammatical errors, English isn't my native language.
