Ana Satsujin

This manga is a really twisted manga without much development.

Basically, it's just a giant mess and it felt as if the author really wanted to make the manga very gory.

I was expecting a manga like Monster, where it was psychological and slightly horrifying; that was a good manga. Ana satsujin is a very simple manga that dwells on death. In a sense, it's "death porn", an extreme emphasis on death to the point where it feels like it's erogenous. There's even a character that gets excited from corpses, which just makes it a tad bit more apparent.

The manga isn't really horrible, but it's not great either. It's just a mediocre manga with lots of gore.

At first we are given a snapshot of what it would be like to be in a relationship with a serial killer. That is then further expanded upon by learning about what kind of person would want to be in a relationship with one and succeed at it. Most people who read the manga enjoy that.

The controversy resides in the second half of the manga, because the main idea was fully threshed out in the first half the author decided to use the world he created to put a twist on the classic damsel in distress storyline. I enjoyed it, for me it gave the manga a greater sense of depth and it ended pleasantly, not being too predictable while still maintaining expectations. Seeing familiar faces return and be more involved in the plot while stilll being woven around the main characters was enjoyable and gave me a smile.

8/10 was very satisfied, got what I wanted out of it with bonus plot.

To say this manga dropped the ball would be an understatement. The entire first half of the manga is pure gold. The characters, the timing, the way they all develop and change are honestly quite amazing.

Then the second half happens and the entire thing goes downhill. The plot becomes filled with annoying cliche.

Evil twins, Amnesia, so-and-so didn't die, etc. It all comes together at the end when major players who you thought were dead all gather in the last 5 chapters for one showdown and most of them barely get a line out before they killed for no reason other than the plot demanded it. It reeks that a publisher saw the first half and then told the author not to end it. As a result, we had an anime that would have been a solid 9 go all the way down to a 5.

So much potential, opportunity, and writing were dropped for what feels like a poorly thought out extension.

So far this manga is a good breath of fresh air, with a very interesting story that haves you guessing and knowing that anything can happen at any time in this manga. This story is about a boy named Kurosu who is a NEET that dropped out of prep school and now finds himself lost not knowing what to do and attempts to end everything. Not spoiling to much he stumbles across a cute girl named
Miyaichi that lives next door that gives him hope to live, little does he know she has very dark secrets. I am really loving this manga with a great feel of suspense and horror also good elements of unusual romance between the two main characters you dont see everyday, a overall great manga that will keep you on the edge of your seat for more.

Hello, this is my first review. Minor to no spoilers. Please tell me if this is a decent review.


Overall - 7
Good read. It had great potential but turned into an unfathomable thing from when you started the manga. Like chewing gum, starts tasty and delicious then turns into a piece of rubber in your mouth that you want to spit out, but you keep it in your mouth thinking the flavor would come back, but it doesn't.


Story - 7
The story revolves around a guy that finds out he is living next to a killer. He finds out by peeping through a hole in a wall. They end up dating each other because she wanted acceptance.
I think this manga has a pretty low score because it started out pretty good, then it devolved into a shounen esque thing with romance and had a wannabe psychological trait.

I can't say much about art since I focus on story detail rather than artistic detail, but this manga has good art.

The characters are pretty well developed but it feels somewhat rushed, as in their(protagonist) emotions go from get away from me to I love you in what feels like four chapters. You do get a bit of backstory for the MC which is he is a straight A Student that felt over pressured by his peers and dropped out of college. As for female MC she has seen her brother kill some woman no one know then she starts wanting to kill, then her brother suddenly wants to die after awhile so tries to commit suicide but she finds him she kills him. Just kinda felt like that was thrown at me.



Enjoyment - 6
It had its moment but they were empty.

Ana Satsujin is a thriller manga about a suicidal NEET and his discovery of a murderous neighbor through a peephole. I'm extremely new to the horror/thriller genre and in fact I avoid it in general, but Ana Satsujin was able to keep me curious and interested.

Story 7/10 - As you can expect from a horror/thriller manga with a character who's a psychopath, there are lots of violence and people dying. The story doesn't really have a plot, but instead it's more of a journey of how the relationship between Kurosu and Miyiachi can work and waver. There's a part where murder was being justified by the killer, which I find completely irrational but nonetheless interesting. The story likes to throw curveballs of which are mostly unexpected, but then again by the time each new character is introduced you'd already be thinking "welp, you're definitely going to get murdered."

Art 7/10 - The art is above average. The farther chapters you get in, it's less and less detailed compared to the panels from the earlier chapters. At some parts it's extremely watered down that it's laughable; I'd say "cute", even. There are times where the characters are presented as chibi, which completely detaches from the atmosphere of the story. It works well during the "tamer" scenes though, so I have no gripes about it. Even though it's a horror manga, the way it presents violence is surprisingly tame (kind of a "leave it to your imagination" style). It's so tame that there was even one chapter where most of the page was censored, followed by an apology note on the side by the mangaka.

Character 8/10 - Suicidals and psychopaths are pretty common character archetypes, but Ana Satsujin makes those two archetypes work together. In other words, they have chemistry. Kurosu finds another reason to live, while Miyaichi finds someone who can accept her. It's entertaining to read each of the characters' thoughts and actions, especially Kurosu's. He thinks and reacts exactly the way a guy who'd fallen in love with a murderer would.

Enjoyment 8/10 - Not much can be said. I enjoyed this manga a lot even though I'm not fond of the genre. The story was good and the characters were good. Also, I'd like to mention that the characters really like to break the fourth wall for occasional comedic effect. They also like to reference anime and other manga. It breaks away a little bit from the tension of whatever scene they're in, but I just accepted the fact that everyone is batshit insane.

Overall 8/10 - I personally think it's a good manga that can keep you interested and curious in every chapter.

Let's get to it:

This manga was fairly good for the first half.

A mysterious sexy broad with a loser who no one cares about, typical combination.

You get a good mix of comedy mixed with gore and sex for the first half. After about chapter 75 the manga goes so far down hill I almost dropped it. The ending was the worst I had ever seen and would recommend the first half up to the point she (spoiler) says she won't kill anyone anymore.

The manga was dope till the second half, then turned shittier than a dung beetle at Thanksgiving.

Ana Satsujin AKA Peephole sits in a very specific niche as far as mystery/drama/horror manga are concerned. It's not very horrifying, although it is gory and violent. It is rather dramatic, although more so in that it provides schlock and easily-predicted plot twists by the handful. As far as mystery goes, there isn't much to be found past the first arc, even if you're particularly naive and can't pick up on the generic tropes presented in the "trash gore-romance drama" genre of manga.
However, this doesn't mean that Ana Satsujin isn't an enjoyable read; Supposing you're a fan of this type of manga or looking for a little bit of garbage in your gore-stew. I myself enjoy schlock, and this manga embodies that entirely: Part Fatal Attraction, part generic serial killer manga, Ana Satsujin satisfies a specific itch that many B-grade manga approach but few actually are able to scratch. It's a shitty thrill ride that is well worth the, admittedly cheap, price of admission.
The characters are one-note, the plot points are contrived, and the twists are so on the nose you'll call them long before you see them; but the point stands, it's just so dumb and goofy that it's hard to put down. Consider it more a horror-comedy/black comedy and chances are you'll laugh and cringe your way to the end before you know it.
It won't blow you away, it's not a masterwork, or even particularly good.
But I'll be damned if it isn't "So bad it's good-ish."

This manga I feel is one that is really easy to simply not get into, in which case you simply miss the point of everything with nothing having an impact on you, and it'll probably seem terrible. On the other hand, if you do get into it like I did, I feel that it's one that can have a tremendous impact on you, in that this is the rare mangas that made me feel somewhat sick. Now this isn't because of gore or violence or anything like that, but because it has such a twisted viewpoint completely divorced from common sense and the hardest part about reading this manga is trying to slowly come to understand that viewpoint, wherein upon finally fully getting into it, it made me feel incredibly uncomfortable, which I haven't really experienced with manga before. It frames death, life, and love in such a strange manner, but slowly builds up to it and makes it seems perfectly reasonable, with the opposing views more aligned with common sense being the antagonists, and that's just a lot to take in at times. The story was a pretty gripping and wild ride for most of it. Kurosu and his pathetic self that slowly grew in a strange direction contrasted quite well with Miyaichi who seemed to have a divine like presence to her, and watching them and their relationship build up was immensely interesting. That's where the problem begins though, in that there is a point, a very obvious climactic point, where the manga should have ended, but they forced it onwards anyway. The reason it should have ended at that point, is that it was the culmination of everything that happened up to that point and should have been able to end things quite finally and in a satisfying manner in a number of ways. Instead, it continued onwards, in an incredibly directionless manner, where it wasn't clear where they wanted to take the story, and in the process ended up completely destroying the value of the amazing climax that had occurred. It felt pathetic to read to be frank, but it wasn't terrible enough to be unsalvageable, wherein if they went back to the spirit of the first half they could end it reasonably well. However, they botch that completely and end up pulling some moronic ending that tries to make things go full circle, but in the process, end up making the protagonists regret everything that happened. The manga gets you to adopt a completely different abnormal state of mind, but right before it ends it forces you back into normality, and hence makes it feel like everything was wrong, that there wasn't much point to any of what you read at all. I was invested in their relationship as twisted as it may have been, and in what they originally wanted to with it, so the ending completely destroying all of that felt awful. In a strange sense, while I won't say the story was happy, it wasn't despair inducing either when approached from the point of view it felt like it wanted you to adopt, so the ending being one heavily focused on being despair inducing, felt like a terrible way to end the series and once that I wasn't satisfied with at all. Ultimately, I would have to say this manga is quite unique and very strange, which has the benefit of being amazing when done right, as it is in the first half, but very easily becoming terrible when not, as it does in the second. The art was pretty good. 

tl;dr: A manga with a very unique look on society that works well for the first half but completely collapses in the second.

Story Score: 3. I was tricked. This manga tricks you with an somewhat interesting twist of the main girl being a serial killer and the protagonist falling in love with her and they make a deal for her to kill him. With small little twists and turns to make you curious but at that point you might as well just look up the ending. The story is so badly paced with dumb moments constantly and lame enough writing to entertain you when you were going through your emo existentialism phase back in middle school. With lame lines that are supposed to sound profound or cool just came off as lame or silly. On top of the lame plot points the mangaka also seemed to get tired pretty fast because they just rush the story to the ending and right when you think things might get different and there's a change of pace it falls back right into the same dumb moments that make almost no sense. I ended up rushing the last 30 chapters just so I can finally finish it

**SPOILERS** The ending is also the worst thing I think I've ever read too its so dumb and makes almost no sense whatsoever and what makes it worse is it is dumped on you last minute as a "twist" but at that point no one cares. If it wasn't for the dumb ending this would've gotten a somewhat higher score of maybe 5

Art Score 6: The art isn't bad but there definitely something off about the style and there is some odd moments where the bodies are all contorted. The manga also has a very generic look to it and some characters are okay designed but you're not missing out much here

Character Score 6: Okay so this manga does have very unique characters and refreshing twists. BUT the part that they fall short is there is little to no development to them and it seems like some characters are made just to show up and be boring plot points to nothing.

Enjoyment Score 3: Its not even worth the ride. Read this if youre truly out of better things in your life to do. Read the first few chapters and find a synopsis to spoil the rest if you cant find one just dm me I'll help you out.

Overall Score 4: I'm being very nice with this score everything up till the end is okay but overall not worth the time.

I'm pretty new to manga, but I thought I'd share my opinions on Ana Satsujin.
As a fan of horror and ecchi, I actually really like this manga so far. The story is interesting enough to keep you focused and the characters are both strange and incising, as well as being slightly unconventional.
The art is pretty average I'd have to say, though the characters look good and it carries the story well.
If you're a fan of this kind of stuff I'd definitely recommend checking out this manga. The fact that the chapters are short make it an easy read, and overall its pretty entertaining and humorous at times.
