Amentia

What exactly does the title mean?
Google defines it as "severe cogenital mental disability" or "mental retardation".
This question will ultimately haunt you till the end.
Whatever Amentia means to you is what the series is trying to portray and interpret to you through the various confrontations and incidents that will happen in the manhwa through the eyes and perspective of the male main character (Lee Wi-Jin).

Story- (7/10)

The male main character (Lee Wi-Jin) is a siscon who likes to his serve his "impeccable" and "perfect" little sister (Lee Wi-Na). His little sister (Lee Wi-Na) mocks and despise him for doing so. He has powers which makes him able to manifests copies of things which he uses to create copies of his little sister (Lee Wi-Na).

One day, he (Lee Wi-Jin) meets a black-haired transfer student (Sung Shi-An), a Waker, abruptly tries to kill him after he tried manifesting a copy of her sister (Lee Wi-Na) on the school roof top.

My thoughts on story-

The synopsis of the story is some-what unique with all this 'delusions' and all this weird settings. It does not take much effort to understand the story as it is really straight forward. Wakers (people who hunt delusioners) do not like delusioners as they break the balance of the world by manifesting and making things that are not supposed to be real while delusioners manifests things which will benefit them. This kind of story is nothing special as it is seen in many kinds of manga/anime/manhwa with similar plot and storyline.

Art- (9/10)

Well, what can i say? If the cover art/illustration does not draw you in, i do not know what does.
It IS serialized by Comic GT, which is famous for their aesthetically pleasing and wonderful illustrations. Heck even their website looks amazing and presentable. But i digress, it is made possible by an artist called "INI" who draws almost all of the illustrations and art work done for this manhwa with sometimes help from the people of Comic GT. The 2 main heroines drawn, Wi-na and Shi-An are drawn really-really beautifully, which to me, is really a great eye-candy.

The colour palette used for the characters and the backgrounds does not overshadow each other which makes reading the manhwa a really enjoyable experience. It also does not stray away from this concept of blending in many different colour such as having many different colour combinations showing the experience of the artist knowing colour blend very well with vibrant colours. This makes every character unique. This makes the series feel very memorable. I do not really not much about art and colours so much but all i can say is that it looks like the illustrator spent ALOT of time and dedication in illustrating it.

Although the main male character (Wi-Jin) looks like your stereotypical boring and average male protagonist, i got to give credit in trying to make him look different than those average 'kirito-like' looking protagonists by having messy and wavy hair.

Character- (6/10)

Eventhough it is a unique take on trying to fit in a sis-con protagonist (Wi-Jin) with an arrogant and perfect sister (Wi-Na) which is like from a side character tropes of an anime/manga/manhwa, it does it well enough to not make any big inconsistency which really affects the development of the story.

Shi-An on the other hand feels like a "plugin" character so that there will be a contesting female heroine for the the main male character (Wi-Jin). Both back stories will be explored further but the obvious hints of Wi-Na's backstory was really intriguing and fascinating for me to explore further towards Wi-Na's backstory most of the time since she IS the cover art/poster girl (Maybe it's just me).

The other characters are not really interesting at all which makes them forgettable easily since they do not really progress the story but will only be there to progress a certain part or create tension towards a certain
event/incident.

Enjoyment- (8/10)

I personally love the funny and perverted humour injected towards the 3 characters daily interactions such as Wi-Jin's obsession towards Wi-Na and Wi-Na being too bossy towards the Wi-Jin (Maybe im a masochist?). The suspense and the build up to know the root cause of the problems were understandable despite it being stretched-out for a bit too long although foreshadowed since the beginning. The other "small" arcs building it up towards the end was anticipatively worth it as the resolution and ending was some-what bittersweet although rushed to an extent.

Overall- (7/10)

It is a really entertaining manhwa to read IF you have spare time. I would recommend to those who likes to read supernatural and a comedic premise with a hint of drama. It has a really good looking illustrations for the readers to enjoy and be entertained (and put as their profile pictures; of course).

Conclusion-

This manhwa is not for everyone unfortunately. It appeals to those who prefer and favour the supernatural and comedic genre through the use of very vibrant and colourful illustrations.

Finally, what does Amentia means to me?
It means a person who is stuck-up in trying to change what had already happened to suit themselves and forgets what it truly means to be living in reality.

[Slight info about the raws]

I bought the raws for Amentia from Comic GT directly, so please show your support to them by buying from their website. Currently, there are books published for Amentia which are available in Japan and Korea. Only 2 volumes of the books have been published and serialized which are fully coloured by Comic GT (there are also additional artwork and illustrations!).

[Trivia]

In an interview with the illustrator, INI (Pen name), there was initially a name planned for the series before "Amentia" but he decided that "Amentia" was a better name than the one originally planned for the series. There is no mention of the original name given to this series.
