Chicchana Yukitsukai Sugar review

Let me start by saying that this manga's intended audience was probably for those under the age of 10. This review is viewing it from that perspective, but also taking into account the idea that just because something is for children, doesn't mean it has to be idiotic.

Story: 6
Typical and basic story. No points for originality here. Includes fairies, main female character with special trait that no one has and basic yet vague goals. But hey, its short and it fills that time with short stories that can make you smile. Writing is OK.

Art:7
This art will have you puking glitter and farting rainbows by the time you're done. Its incredibly adorable and strangely enough, doesn't get old. they are continuously cute. That doesn't mean its good art but considering its one of the main reasons I read all 3 volumes, I can certainly up this quite a few points.

Characters: 4
BLAND BLAND BLAND. Saya=Boring, Fairies= Adorable. This is the most you get out of these characters. Yes they show some personality but its just cookie cutter personalities. Shes responsible and organized, She cute and curious, blahblahblah. Kid anime/manga tend to have bland characters that kids can relate to or understand but COMEON!

Enjoyment:8
Wait an 8?! I have to admit it was such the guilty pleasure. It wasn't amazing but it always managed to cheer me up when I was down and in the end, made me feel like a kid again. I suspended reality for a moment when I read it and forgot about the literary masterpieces I've read before and just tried to enjoy it as a child. This is mostly personal and others probably won't get as much enjoyment as I did

Final Word: 6
I have such mixed emotions about this, but in the end, its not that great. If you want to get a younger sister into manga however, this would be good to start with. It's simple and overly cute but its still adorable and enjoyable. I really couldn't explain why its enjoyable even though I know its not that great, but I guess its one of those things you have to see for yourself. Seeing that its only 3 short volumes, it wouldn't hurt to give it a shot and see if its your guilty pleasure too.
