Fudatsuki no Kyouko-chan

Fudatsuki no Kyouko-chan is a pretty decent manga that just didn't live up to its full potential.

Story: 7
The pacing of the story is nice, but the level of development in the main premise is lacking. For a story that is based primarily on the interactions between sister and brother, the side romance element seems to be too overwhelming and forced. It feels like the author is desperately trying to "ship" the brother and Hibino out of fear of the taboo of the alternative (bro+sis ship), when in fact doing so would create a much more powerful and surprising narrative (if the sister was actually the brocon deep down). This is mostly because of Hibino's character development and interactions with the MC.

The artist very nicely draws a distinction between dere Kyoko vs. tsun Kyoko. Best example of this is the first time her ribbon came off. That super adorable smiling and apologetic face, when juxtaposed with her usual appearance, clearly conveys a sense of bipolarism in the character.

The MC's expressions are also well-drawn, so that the reader feels his anger, embarrassment, and even horror whenever the ribbon comes off.

Character: 7
The characters are decently likable, but their full potential weren't realized. The tension between Kyoko's two states and their relationship with the MC could have been explored in much more depth, especially with Hibino as fuel. However, because the author chose to develop a romance between Hibino and the MC, Kyoko's quirks became secondary. Added to that is Hibino's blandness as a character: She never really was much more than a passive person who wasn't afraid of the MC, and by some convenient reason he liked her. In a way, it felt like she didn't deserve him. On the other hand, because of her tsundere personality, it always felt as if there was something more to Kyoko's feelings towards her brother the MC, but this was glossed over in favor of a less "incest"-y manga.

Due to all of this, while the ending was fine, it felt a little bit like a cop-out. The central problem still isn't resolved. Kyoko dangerous nature is never fully addressed or tamed.

Enjoyment: 7
It was good. It gave me a few laughs, but nothing more. I did get hooked on it enough to read to the end, so it was interesting. Yet, due to the issues mentioned, it felt incomplete. It never reached its peak and definitely didn't end with a bang.

Could have been one hell of a manga, but ended up being just decent.

Well eXcUsE me while concept of the story was ok-ish, story progression and dynamic was completely off also how author realized this story is awful not to mention it is full of plot holes and incoherent story plots (as if author forgot previously stated story points).
We start abruptly we learn basically nothing about main story aspects, like why did MC change from middle school, why is his sister a monster, where are their parents and a lot more questions and incoherence (MC is super strong and everyone is afraid bam girl is afraid of him bam next chapter she constantly kicks his but)
Or next one we have few chapters story progression and then last chapters story progression, chapters in between are simply to bore you to death with cliche jokes that go like that : rinse and repeat, rinse and repeat, repeat and rinse. I'm amazed how people can rate this piece of garbage above 5. Mystery's unsolved, plot holes right and left abrupt but decent ending (Author kudos at least for making a decent ending). This whole story is based on one big misunderstanding and completely unfounded rumors.
I know some story's throw you in the midst of a story but they at least try to explain ridiculous thing that are happening, here you have 0 mystary's solved besides one (early in chapters you learn MC was an ok guy). The more I question the less this story holds up 4 is only because he at least could follow through the ending else he would receive 2 no more.

Well art on the other hand was a pleasant surprise it was likeable, characters were more or less unique (not very attractive but more or less good and unique). Background wasn't so memorable but didn't stand out as bad and was good. Panel placement while not the best was indeed good and readable, dialogue bubbles are the same.

Characters:4
One dimensional people everywhere, they have a set character traits and vocabulary + joke amount. Famous joke "HaHaHa Siscon" "No, I'm not". Only characters that has something is MC's sister (she has split personality tsundure and open cry baby).
MC is kinda a mystery, 2-3 years ago he was a straight A smart student, decent looks and great physique and then everything changed, you ask why and when? Sorry no answer author forgot, he was too high. Now he is a delinquent who on purpose barely passes tests and acts arrogantly and intimidatingly reason being to safe guard his sister (not to mention his previous life is none existent he was excellent before but nobody remembers him from middle school besides one person (it seems even his sister doesn't know who he was).
Sister that is something like a sociopath with amnesia and a secret brother complex but she twists everything around and now MC is an a hole and a Siscon(He isn't). That one girl is an epitome of evil in MC's life if not for her his life would be fantastic but for some reasons s*$t happened and now you see this dysfunctional manga.
Girl who beats the living hell of MC - apparently is a major muscle brain and has a moment of clarity at the end of the series when she understand that she simply f*&(d up everything hence being a muscle brain who can't analyze sh*t.
MC's love interest emm she was incoherent, she could follow up a lot of things about MC but she still thought of him as a siscon and below average intelligence person.
Big Sister character yet another dysfunctional persona who is from one point kinda smartish but is either bullying or simply doesn't care. And by that i mean play along in this random story.
And Antagonist-kun, placed simply to show some competition for a few chapters and disappeared with a small mention later. You know like he was there only to mix up something since before him we had only MOB male roles.

Above stated points show my enjoyment it's almost none existent, it felt like author was using my head as toilet for his major case of diarrhea...... I sat and read it all and I simply felt like my brain was nearing a danger zone (caution few more chapters and zombie brain will be imminent). I enjoyed few chapters 1-5 and 36 that's all. Jokes are repetitive "SISCON" "Delinquent" kicking and convenient ribbon loss.

I feel 4 is too much for this, work is unfinished, nothing answered, characters are dumb or have a major case bullying fetish (where everybody agreed to isolate one kid). It's hard to mark it as shounen (set in high school) it was more like shounen (set up in primary school (grade 4) where everybody plays a role diligently).

THAT'S ALL I CAN MUSTER TO SAY ABOUT THIS MAJOR CRASH-LANDING ACCIDENT OF MANGA.

I really love the idea of this series, but the execution of said idea could be better.
The premise of a brother who end up looking like a siscon because he protects his sister all the time but in reality is actually trying to protect everyone from his sister is so interesting. The only problem is that a good concept can only go so far. I wouldn’t say this that often but I feel like this has the potential to become a lot more action based, the problem is the art style is lacking.
The Characters are fun, especially are two leads.
Overall I would recommend this series, especially if you’re a fan of the creators other work Takagi-san.

Premise: Fudatsuki Kenji has to constantly care for his younger vampire-like sister, scaring away all people around her (protecting them from her), while also acting as her daily blood bank. During their time in high school they run into romantic hijinks (with other people of course) as well as realize their special familial bond.

Fudatsuki no Kyouko-chan attempts to fit into a specific popular genre of "episodic, infinitely repeating, and comical expressions of love or understanding between people who will never admit their feelings until the last chapter," instead of something deeper and perhaps more controversial like what the premise promises. It rather successfully filled that genre. However, in my opinion, the premise had so much more potential, all of which was lost to what it is now. Now don't get me wrong, this manga is *cute as fuck*. But there was just as much wrong with it as went right.

Story: 6/10
In pursuit of becoming an infinite slice of life/comedy/romance "wow that's super cute look how wholesome it is" it becomes a "you don't need plot or anything, that's too heavy, also throw out continuity too" because of how much promise it had in the beginning but had to shave off and how many possibly heavier themes it could have covered but would have not fit its designated cheery atmosphere. I know I keep talking about the premise but it is just that important.
Many questions invariably arise... which would be VERY interesting to flesh out, but never are. What about his and her family? Can't she wear her hair in a more secure way? What is the origin of the ribbon as a talisman? How did they get by in the past as children? Why doesn't daily blood sucking result in any neck scarring? How does Kyouko cook great food if she can't consume human food without feeling sick? Instead we are treated to some 37 chapters of ribbon-on/ribbon-off tsundere act. Ad infinitum. The romance premises were extremely endearing, but all plot points met long-delayed yet abrupt and unsatisfactory resolutions.

--> My biggest observation: this story was never about hiding her true identity as a vampire or protecting other people from her (like the premise would have you think). That would be too interesting. The "danger" or "jeopardy" is not placed on something like being discovered, it is placed on shallow romantic relations and misunderstandings.

The story had a ridiculous amount of potential. Too bad it threw it all away.

Art: 8/10
The art is great. All the character designs are endearing. Everyone's appearances are very distinct.

Character: 5/10
The main sibling pair Kenji and Kyouko are very endearing. Kenji is the most fleshed out, and his personality is evidenced to be a product of the environment he's forced himself to mature quickly in. Kyouko has a nice character design, but her entire role in this story could be summed up with the ribbon-on/ribbon-off gag/act.
A specific few side characters are evidenced to be incapable of human cognition and reasoning.

The characters are all exactly what the author wants them to be: simple and distinct. There is no depth to any of the characters, since I infer they're not meant to be seen as three-dimensional people. However it could have been very different. By the author's vision though it serves its purpose well, so I won't stir anything more.

Enjoyment: 6/10
What was VERY enjoyable: the setting-up of premises! The jeopardy of the situations the author puts these characters in are genius. It makes me look forward to what will happen next.
What was NOT enjoyable: being strung along and bullshitted until the end of the manga because the author just had to have some limbo in place to keep things barely interesting.

Overall: 6/10
This manga was the feeling of someone telling you about a great amusement park, then arriving to be met with a botanical park. It's a nice park with nice flowers, but it's not what you told me. This is NOT supernatural or drama or even comedy, it is tease escapism-romance which is concentrated on selling well to a large casual audience. I should not have expected so much out of Fudatsuki no Kyouko-chan. It became increasingly more difficult to read as time went on because I kept losing hope (and interest). If you like this genre I suggest you read it, but only until you feel numbed with disappointment.

So the story is basically revolves around Kyoko and Kenji, a pair of siblings. Kenji is feared by other classmates due to his looks and his "siscon" attitude, which makes it hard for him to approach his crush, Hibino. As the story progresses, more characters are introduced and Kyoko gains a friend. And that's about it for story wise.

Story: 9
A pretty solid slice of life, comedy with some romance packed here and there. Was really enjoyable.

Art: 10
Let's be real here. If you enjoyed Karakai Jouzu no Takagi-san's art style, then you will enjoy this. Kyoko's FOREHEAD LMAO. In all seriousness, I really liked the art style.

Character: 9
The main characters are your classic "non-popular guy" and a "tsundere sister". But they aren't bland as bland as other series' characters. Also, the side characters are also quite interesting, especially the tomboy (forgot her name lmao).

Enjoyment: 10
Heck yeah! I loved the Karakai Jouzu no Takagi-san and it's spin-offs (Moto and Ashita wa Doyoubi), so I really loved this as well!

Overall: 10
It has been implied that this series and Takagi-san's series are in the same universe, as suggested by a reccuring character (Sachi and her brother) being present in both series. But easter egg aside, if you really liked Takagi-san, give this a try! (Btw I was able to complete the series as I read the chinese translated version to complete the last 6 chapters lol, but I definately will buy all 7 volumes of this if they were ever licensed by Seven Seas etc.)
