Furou Kyoudai review
tl;dr: An interesting premise but pretty flawed execution.
This manga has an interesting premise that could be an interesting story in two ways, one in that it could revolve around an interesting relationship dynamic between brother and sister, and two it could feature a number of stories involving ghosts being dealt with in interesting ways. It does a bit with both of those, but it doesn’t really work that well because it feels like from the first step its incredibly messy. I don’t know how to describe this well, but it felt like it was really scattered with very awkward pacing, moving through the plot way too fast without stopping for any of it to really stick or for it to ever feel like things are happening or progress is being made. I suppose that’s why it was axed right away, because it only goes on for one volume, so in the end even though there was an interesting premise and a few good moments, the story never really moved enough for anything to happen. The art was okay. |
Furou Kyoudai review
Furou Kyodai is the story of twins with the ability to see spirits. The only times they can repel the spirits is when they are together, so they spend all of their time together, even in situations when others believe it is inappropriate.
This manga is really cute, and the premise is one I have not seen before. In some ways, it is similar to other manga with protagonists who can see spirits, such as Natsume Yuujinchou, but this one has added comedy due to people misunderstanding the twins' relationship (which is purely a platonic sibling relationship). There are a few short arcs about helping spirits to the afterlife, but I think the manga could have been much improved with a bit more length, maybe adding more short stories and developing the main plot of the twins trying to live their lives in their unusual situation. |
