Heart no Kuni no Alice: Tokei Usagi to Gogo no Koucha wo review
Bishounenized desecration of Alice's Adventures in Wonderland: The psychorabbit boogaloo
Without a doubt, Peter is the least dateable, least tolerable and most insufferable character out of the whole Wonderful Wonder World cast. So I'm not surprised this is how manga depicting his route ended up. Disappointed, yes, but not surprised. Alice is exactly the opposite of the advertised. She is no strong-willed heroine that doesn't let others do whatever they want with her, no. She is a ball in the game of pinball and the characters bouncer her however they want through the playfield as the flappers would. No-one strong-willed or even self-respecting would go the Peter route. This is what the author seems to realize too, so most of this manga is just trying to justify Peter as a character. Pretty much with just attempts to guilt trip a reader into excusing his behaviour. "Look at him, his love is so strong he would literally kill himself for Alice", "Look how pitiful he is, blinded by love", and finally the ultimate "Look at how cute his rabbit form looks, just forgive him everything". Unfortunately that doesn't work on me, so he's still a psychotic emotional manipulator. And as most of the content of the manga is just the author trying to bamboozle a reader into liking (or at least tolerating) a certain character, there's not much more room for anything else. But from the little bits that are left, I would really like if the plot wouldn't be partially about Alice finding about how clocks work again. Not only it's repetitive and featured in almost every manga spin-off, Alice really should know that long before the events of this manga. Overall, unless Peter White doesn't fit into your fetish strike zone, you're better off skipping this one. |
