Hiiro Ouji

The first thing I'd like to say, this is a light-hearted take on the vampire genre. The story is for the most part slow-paced and at times slice of life-esque with its school setting, with more dramatic plot points across the story. I personally found this a little chaotic and felt like it didn't flow as well as it could have done. It's a bit simplex and a little predictable and bland at times, and left me feeling like something was missing to make everything work better. There were use of some comedic elements I found rather overused and a little boring, but comedy is more a matter of taste than anything else.

The art is typical to the shoujo genre. It's well done, but not outstanding or unique. At times I had a hard time telling the male cast apart, as they had almost identical hairstyles. The designs of the female characters were however more diverse.

I didn't quite feel that the characters were well-rounded, especially Akira Okamoto. His personality was very shallow, possibly a side-effect of having it so his personality changes depending on blood type, which I personally found as an unnecessary point to the story. The supporting characters felt overall flat. The other main character, Mana Midorikawa, bothers me a bit. I felt like her personality was all over the place, and is in my eyes the most contradicting character, as she was both highly predictable yet unpredictable with her reactions and behavior throughout the story.

Although there were things that didn't sit right with me, this was an enjoyable read. It was relaxing, albeit slightly disappointing. I guess I personally have too high expectations for the vampire genre though. I'm also not really a huge fan of the shoujo and harem genres, though if you are a fan of these genres, I really recommend this. I believe that then you'd enjoy this considerably more than I did.

It wasn't necessarily bad but sadly it didn't have something that special about it so as to call it good. Definitely not memorable, just a quick cute read.

Story 6
The plot is lighthearted, based mainly on comedy. One of the key points of the humor seems a bit more common to Japanese people than westerners and that is blood type. In Japan, there is a superstition linking blood type with personality just like some other people might associate a zodiac sign with personality. The main theme, kind of predictable, is "let's all just get along, human or non-human". There are many others series doing this theme a lot of justice ( see Jitsu wa Watashi wa which also does comedy so damn good), but this one just lacked any of the conflicts associated with it.
Spoiler **** Everyone in the class seems to just not mind that their classmate is a vampire.

Art 8
The art was great, I liked how all characters looked. Their images fit their personalities (almost absent)

Character 4
Everyone except the two main characters is just bland. We don't know anything about them mostly, just few key things and it's just left at that. Even the main characters fail to be that relatable and interesting.

Enjoyment 5
It was funny in some ways. Though it's good it was short cause probably I wouldn't have had the patience had this been a longer story. At the same time, this is a shame. Cause maybe the story would've gotten much better if they got to develop the relationship between Mana and Okamoto-kun. So much potential is lost.

All in all, this is not a must read. You could give this a try if you want a short angst-free vampire story. (I love angst tho).

Quick First Impressions:
This has been one of the most amusing and refreshing series (with a vampire for a main character) I've ever read. Not to mention it isn't even angsty!!! O_O I can't wait for the antagonist/s to show up... things will definitely get even more interesting when that happens~

Honestly, everything in it would've been fun and great if it weren't for the leading girl (she's the "stereotype" and the main cause of the "cliche" scenarios). Oh well, I'll try my best to ignore her. I don't wanna miss all the fun~

As other have said, this is a very refreshing manga that I love to read when I just want to relax. It is also really cute.

Story: 8
Well, it's pretty much about Mana, a exorcist who transfers to a school to get rid of a vampire, but to her surprise... he is really laid back. This boy is Okamoto. I for one thought the story was cute, despite lacking some excitement. And despite the story being very relaxing, it does have a plot that is very funny, sweet and still a little exciting. Of course there are serious moments that get you all excited. I enjoyed the story because of that.

Art: 8
The art was really cute and the chibis were super sweet. Despite the art being nice and all, it was not that special that really made me say wow, but it was still very good. There are some things I don't like that much, but it's only small things and details.

Character: 9
I really loved the characters in this manga. The main girl had a personality that was funnier than usual shoujo manga main girls have, but she still has that little shyness. The boys are hilarious, especially Okamoto with his little comments and such. The characters in this manga really are awesome, but others do need a little fixing. Some lack a teensy bit personality, but other than that the characters are great.

Enjoyment: 8
This manga doesn't get me jumping on the couch when it updates or anything, but it's more of the manga that makes you smile and laugh when reading. I for one really think this a enjoyable manga that is fun to read and definitely something not only girls should read.

Overall this manga is a cute, romantic, but hilarious manga that I recommend BIG-TIME.

Quick Review: (Spoilers....kinda)

Art was good, refreshing to look at, but i found one scene with a half drawn face in the background. But it's not just this manga, it happens in a few.

Story was very mediocre. Most of the time it was filled with unnecessary characters and arcs that didn't move the plot at all. The manga would introduce a bunch of characters, but they all seemed very plot-irrelevant. It would've fit the slice-of life genre more, and there wasn't much harem. It was mainly just a light story about the daily lives of a vampire and an exorcist.

It seemed like the author tried to create a non-cliche shoujo romance story by excluding many typical shoujo scenarios, but failed to do so. For example, there was no real "rival" or threat to the romance of the two main characters. And not much development in other characters except for the main two, it was a miracle how the plot drove (spoiler) Okamoto to confess to Mana.

All in all, it really seemed like a waste of my time, (about 3-4 hours) BUT, if you're looking for a shoujo romance with a goofy male vampire and a typical Maid-sama female lead, then try checking out Hirro Ouji.
