In today's world of computers and cell phones, few people have time for superstition and ghost stories—but that doesn't mean that they aren't real! Amane Kamori is a powerful medium from a remote village in rural Japan. Her guardian is Hyoue Inugami, a demon dog whose powers are literally fueled by her kiss! Together they protect humans from vengeful spirits and bring peace to the dead.

But when Amane's family moves to the big city of Tokyo, all the magical power in the world can't help her survive high school! Her chilly demeanor and lack of social graces make her a campus misfit. Popularity comes much easier to Hyoue, whose sexy good looks (in his human form) bring him lots of female fans. But Hyoue's lapdog loyalty to Amane only leads to more woe, as jealous classmates can't understand what he sees in her. If only they knew...

A demon servant fueled by kisses, sounds pretty uninteresting no? From the summary, I didn't expect much from this series. I was pleasantly surprised, this manga is very good!

Story: (8)
In the first few volumes, the story doesn't seem to have much plot aside from accomplishing the romantic relationship there is. The first volumes are almost episodic, each mini-arc teaching you a little bit more about the characters and the situation they are in. Around the middle of series, you are shown that this series really DOES have a main plot. From that point on, the story goes by relatively fast and gives you plenty of plot twists. A few details of the main conflict were very typical of manga with "princesses" and really annoyed me. Not only that, aside from a few plot twists, the end of the manga is pretty predictable. The end is still lovely, filled with fluff and your "happily ever after" type of mood. Story only get an 8 because of the irritating details and predictability of the last few volumes.

Art: (10)
From the start of the series, I have to say I fell in love with the art. It's wonderful and extremely attracting to the eye. I wouldn't be surprised if someone drooled over one of the pages. Nearly every character is handsome/pretty and has a unique look when comparing with the other characters.

Character: (9)
Characters were amazing, even if a few of them held many characteristics over-used in manga. Since the first few volumes were dedicated nearly entirely to the characters, they had fairly good development. Each character had a unique personality when compared to the rest of the cast, even if quite a few shared some traits as well. The cast isn't even really that big, so there was a good amount of time to develop most of the characters. They're all really lovable and end up messing with your feelings throughout the series as good and bad things happen to them.

Enjoyment: (9)
I really enjoyed this series. It really surpassed my expectations with its good characterization, excellent art, and good story. I read this manga fairly fast, only taking a break to wait for the last two chapters to be scanned.

Overall: (9)
What can I say? Good characters, wonderful art, good story, and a nice handful of plot twists; this is a really good series. Don't let the summary fool you, it really drives your expectations down, when this series is actually great. If you like a bit of dramatic romance(Somewhat forbidden), friendships, and surprising plot twists in a manga this one would be a good choice! :)

The idea of a demon servant fueled by kisses isn't too bad of a plot and has lots of potential when done right. Pity Her Majesty's Dog was NOT done right. It had it's moments but the female lead just got too annoying. She has this powerful ability to control people with her words but is such a meek and soft-spoken person that the fact she has this ability is moot since she hardly uses it. She had no inkling about technology, was pretty much useless on her own, and had the street smarts of a toddler. Her friend wasn't much better, if you've seen one meddling friend you've seen them all and this one is no different. She was incredibly nosy and suffered from the "I can't do anything because they said no" syndrome.
The demon guardian was the closest thing this manga came to a three dimensional character; you learned about his past, what made him tick, and got to read about him growing personality wise. He was aware of his faults and did everything in his power to be a good guardian and was not above asking for help when he knew he needed it. His rival wasn't all that well thought out and pretty much threw himself at the female lead. The only depth he had was the reasoning behind his compulsive lying and that's it.
The climax and falling action are so close together that it's almost impossible to define when one ends and the other begins. The resolution is hardly better. The ending, while well thought out, was disappointing. Had the female lead any backbone to speak of, perhaps the story would have been better.
I recommend this to people who actually enjoy the female lead to be naive and submissive. If you're like me, and prefer the female to have a backbone, go read Vampire Knight or even Inuyasha. Anything but this drivel.

I think Her Majesty’s Dog is one of those manga you start reading thinking it won’t be that good and then they surprise you in a good way. Even if it’s not the best story out there, it’s still very enjoyable and I quite like it. I do recommend it to you if you are into shojo, fantasy and demons and you don’t want a very complicated story.

Art: 7

Enough backgrounds to make me happy. Nice characters’ designs. Good action scenes. Not specially outstanding, though.

Characters: 8

Amane is cold, dead serious and emotionally challenged. I love the way she doesn’t get others’ emotions, which leads her to be a bit clueless, but it’s not annoying. I totally love that she is not just another happpy-go-lucky female lead. She is a good character.

Hyoue is cool, funny and a bit belligerent. His devotion for Amane is admirable. The story about how he got to be Amane’s koma-oni is very touching. He carries some secret that he doesn’t even know about.

They also have two friends who usually tag along and are very relatable.

The best:

Enjoyable.
Good balance between comic relief and drama.
Original plot? I’ve never seen another story about the kotodama before.
Fairly nice art.

The worst:

As far as I remember, there was nothing wrong with this story. It could have been a little more complicated and then it would have been better. There are 11 volumes after all. I wanted to see more demons and more action, for example.

Score:

8 out of 10. Even if I don’t have major complains, I think the story would have been a lot better if the author would have gone further into it.
