When you get down to it, its premise is technically and honestly kinda creepy and weird given the age gap of the two main characters in this romantic comedy. However, I unironically like it. The humor is pretty spot-on, especially when the romance is heavily one-sided (as of yet) and constant rejections are afloat. The manga makes use of the funny shenanigans you'd expect of the fictional romcom genre (or any anime/manga really), so no wonder hilarity ensues.

Even then, the manga is pretty cute and heartwarming in its own way, as the relationship dynamics of each character have so far been fairly pleasant to see. Like, their personalities may seem a bit one note, but it’s exactly the interactions that drive your enjoyment of the fairly simple, comedic story.

It does have its semi-serious moments that dabble with the implications of such an age gap in romance, though. No, it's not about the inherent creepiness of their relationship, but rather their obvious differences in life and romantic experiences—a sentiment understandably more held by the high schooler, Ichika. Other implications are fairly positive, however, and daresay sweet even (e.g. Ryou softening up).

So, having said all that, it's a nice, simple recommendation to anyone who is able to get past the red flags of an age gap in romance and not take this manga very seriously as you would any other romance manga.

Dialogue isn't anything special, but it's the character interactions that continually make me look forward to reading the manga. Definitely give it a read to get some laughs and maybe even some butterflies.

---

Personal context: I became interested in the manga after watching the PV, I think. I'm quite sure my first thoughts were something along the lines of, "That's kinda creepy, bro, but I'm intrigued." I did forget about it after a while, though, until I came across it on MAL an hour or so ago and read the 5 most recent chapters. Speaking of which, how on earth have the other reviewers read chapters beyond 25?

To love, all ages are submissive.

Love is a strange thing. Sometimes it makes people go crazy. Love is like alcohol. It can both heal and it can hurt. It can create joy and it can create pain. It is often responsible for some of the best and some of the worst moments of your life. It Is Too Sick to Call This Love focuses on a rather strange encounter of a successful businessman, Amakusa Ryou, and his high school sister's best friend, Arima Ichika. One day, either because of the fact that Ryou worked too much and was too tired, or did not eat, for some reason, he almost fainted in the shopping mall. However, a girl that later turned out to be his high school sister's best friend, Arima Ichika helped Ryou and even offered her bento to the man. This is love at first sign, this is something Ryou could not ignore. A girl helped a man, she had never seen before and even offered her bento. Now Ryou’s futile attempts to win the heart of a normal otaku high school girl begin.

That is what this manga is about. Ryou is a sexy businessman that has everything in the life: expensive cars, social status and great looks. Usually he acts more as a cold blooded person, but then he falls in love with Ichika and changes a lot. Does he really love her, why would he even do something like that? You will need to answer these questions yourself, when reading the manga. However, do not think of it that much, because this manga is a comedy, this is a romantic comedy. Ichika is not ready to accept her friend’s brother declaration of love that easily, because there is an age gap and she does not understand his intentions, because the way Ryou shows his feelings is a little bit weird. Because of that, Ichika will just insult Ryou and show how much she hates him.

With that being said, It's Too Sick to Call This Love is a good romantic comedy that has no drama about it and is just amazingly heartwarming and sometimes very funny. In addition to this, it will also get a TV adaptation somewhere in the future. Do look forward to it!

Pervyly funny and sweet~

!!!WARNING!!!
The male MC’s (Ryou’s) approach of pursuing the female MC (Ichika) is extremely dangerous. If you follow his footsteps, you will probably wind up in a cell filled with dakimakura(s). Jokes aside~ this manga should be used purely for entertainment but not for education.

!!Minor Spoilers!!
Story: 7
Really straightforward with no digression. Along the story, we will witness how Ichika embraces Ryou and actually accept Ryou’s love and warmth? o.O

Art: 10
The strongest category of this manga. Definitely an S tier manga when it comes to art figure transitions between Chibi and real-life proportion.

It is clear that the illustration of chapter 1 is a little rough when compared those of the later chapters as the mangaka was still trying to get used to his/her new work; however, as more chapters are being delivered, the manga's layouts and depictions become cleaner (I don’t really mind having no background in certain scenes) and more aesthetically pleasing.

Character: 9
Ichika: Just a simple girl, yet tolerant toward Ryou
Ryou: Was a fuckboy -> reformed and became a masochist who loves only one girl
Rio: Ryou’s sister and Ichika’s classmate/close friend who plays a significant role as a mediator

Some side characters will appear to help create some stories or scenes.
However, several other side characters will appear as they will try to get the “love” attention from both Ichika and Ryou. As always, this isn’t possible as they are just “side characters”. :P

Each character or side characters have their purposes. But the manga hasn’t reached the point of showing multiple layers of main characters’ personalities. Thus with a -1.

Enjoyment: 10
Love this manga. Definitely was relaxing and comical read while cruising through 33 chapters.

Overall: 9
This manga won’t be a mainstream Romcom manga like some others, but it isn’t something you should ignore once you find it :)
