Tatoeba Last Dungeon Mae no Mura no Shounen ga Joban no Machi de Kurasu Youna Monogatari

After a few chapters, you notice this series is an affectionate parody of high fantasy settings with OP MCs. Every cliché trope you can imagine will be referenced, and if one of the characters doesn't point the falls in logic said trope has, then be sure the narrator himself will.

Lloyd is your typical nice guy MC, but he's so extremely OP to the point that he can defeat demon lords with little difficulty - however, the catch with him is that he comes from a village of legendary heroes where he was raised by a god, so he was labelled as the weakest on that village, which led to his perception of power being so disturbed that he considers stuff like 10 meter tall monsters to be simple bugs. He's basically an anti-thesis to Saitama in that way, he defeats everyone effortlessly if not downright one-shot, but he doesn't even notice as much due to his weird upraising.

Every other main character also has a main joke to them: Marie has being hilariously abused by her master's magic, Riho is only in it for the money, Selen is a yandere stalker who can't think of anything but Lloyd, Alka is a 100+ years old loli who is a shotacon, and Phyllo is a girl of few words that has problems following the flow of normal conversations which leads her to wrong conclusions. Expect to see the author looking for ways to milk every one of those jokes for what's worth.

Overall, this is a fairly good comedy novel, but unless that mysterious villain working in the background manages to eventually shake the status quo, I can see this basically going the same route as One Punch Man of simply overusing their jokes as much as they can.

Since this will get an Anime soon I looked into it.

I don't like reading Light Novels that much, but I read Manga from time to time - so I decided on this version.


The story is about a boy from a village, that protects the realm from disasters and demon lords. "getting firewood" means killing treants, "fishing" means killing giant horned Piranhas and "Sparring" fighting until all your bones are shattered. In his mind he is the weakest guy ever, but normal citizens can't even comprehend how tough he is.

In short: Your average overpowered MC with a twist. This is not an Isekai, but a generic Fantasy world.


At the time of this review the first Arc is concluded and a second one is teasered, but not published yet. So this will only be about that first Arc:


The story starts with some funny worldbuilding. It plays into all the tropes, so things like Demon Lords, Monsters and generic fantasy elements are teased, but not really explained in depth. While one can assume this is meant to be as a parody it's all played straight.

Characters in this story are very one dimensional, but it doesn't ruin the fun just yet.

Overall this is a fun read 7/10. It might get stale if it continues like this and it's nothing to think too much about.

The teasered second arc might get more serious, but I really doubt it.

The story begins in the small and peacful village of Konron that has a big secret about it. In the village, the boy called Llyod wants to leave his home to become a soldier in the capital. The problem, however, is that he is considered the weakest in the village. The mayor of the village, of course, did not appreciate the idea. Yet, she still agrees to help the boy fulfil his dream. She gives him a crystal that Llyod will need to hand in to the witch that lives in the capital. Upon reaching the capital, Llyod meets the witch, who unwillingly agrees to help Llyod. How could she refuse a request of her teacher? And so the journey of the weakest villager begins.

Tatoeba Last Dungeon Mae no Mura no Shounen ga Joban no Machi de Kurasu Youna Monogatari reminds me of Asterix and Obelix. A small village that has the power to wreak havoc and hardly anyone could stop that. Here, however, Llyod does not have a sidekick and he does not drink a potion to become stronger, but there is still an explanation for his supernatural power, which you will find out, when you read more about his village.

Tatoeba Last Dungeon Mae no Mura no Shounen ga Joban no Machi de Kurasu Youna Monogatari is quite an enjoyable comedy that also has a story about it, which makes it very interesting to follow. Although, it is somewhat difficult to give it a reasonable assessment only after 9 chapters, but this manga has enough potential to be good. On top of that, it will get an anime in October, 2020.
