The Poet Who Buys Words

For a three chapter manhwa, I was impressed with the quality of the art and the unique story it tries to tell. The protagonist, a man who has to buy words from others in order to write his poems, meets a mysterious woman with a certain tattoo, and we proceed to find out their tragic histories. Since it's so short, the character's personalities are not that defined, but they were sympathetic enough to want to keep reading.

While I do admire how simply and quickly the story was portrayed, I feel that for this reason, it lacked a lot more substance than it had the potential for. For example, I thought the man's need to buy words was not used to it's full effect. We never really see the impact it has on people who agree to it (once someone sells him words, they are not allowed to use them again - however, we never see the aftermath of anyone's agreements. This could've added an interesting perspective to the whole thing and perhaps even made the protagonist question the morality of doing this). It's just kind of glossed over, which I supposed couldn't be helped what with the length, but I just thought could've made it more interesting.

[SPOILER SECTION] Also, one thing that didn't really make sense to me was why the woman would want to sell the words in the letter when she hadn't even read it. I know she was emotional over the whole matter, but he used some REALLY common words in there. If that guy had agreed to it, she would have been majorly screwed over. A bit of an illogical move on her part, but it wasn't enough to really annoy me.

Besides that, I thought this was a fine read. This story didn't fire up any strong emotions in me, but I certainly don't regret taking the time to read it. For what it is, I think it's worth a glance.
