Tsuyokute New Saga

I don’t know where the mangaka is going to take this very classic “let’s go kill the demon lord” story, but so far it has been a real joy to follow.

Story/characters - Fantasy time travel is actually pretty cool
The story follows a veteran demon-lord slayer that has had his memories and soul transported 4 years back in time to a point before demons nearly completed total genocide of all other humanoid races. He takes this opportunity and quickly looks to find a way to fight the demons more effectively. The primary issue being how divided the people were and a lot of internal strife. A good amount of the tale focuses on gathering support and around the main character for the war effort he thinks is on the horizon. I think the story is pretty well executed, however I feel that the fast paced, clever story comes at the consistent cost of character development.
I like the characters, and I like the situations they’ve been thrust into to make interesting dynamics. However the author spends little time to curate and give proper attention to some really good ideas. This may change in the upcoming chapters but as it stands my biggest complaint with the manga is not capitalizing on good character interactions and instead glossing over them most times.

Art - it's not bad but it’s not really my style
I don’t want to spend too much time talking about the art as it looks good and is pretty consistent throughout. I just don’t really prefer the style so much, it works well enough that I have no problem getting through it. Most times the art looks more like a sketch and has a bit of an “old school” manga vibe to it. There isn’t a good sense of “lighting” and the lines on characters feel odd to me. It took awhile for the main character's design to really grow on me but the rest of the designs are pretty good. All in all definitely not even close to a “deal breaker”, it’s just not one of the selling points for this one.

Overall/ Enjoyment - need to see a few more chapters
I really liked this work when I first picked up reading it and quickly blitzed through what was out, but after I stopped and thought about it I really couldn’t decide if it really was as good as I was thinking during reading. I can’t say I didn’t enjoy reading it, but overall because of the lack of time spent on little character moments I find myself a little disappointed rather than satisfied. I have to wait and see if the author knows is doing it purposely for really good pay offs later in the story, or if it just keeps going the way it has. If it doesn't, I’ll probably read it all anyway but my opinion of it will gradually fall as well.

The hero travels back in time to save the world from the demon king. The premise is cliche, but there are lots of reasons to like this manga.

For starters, there's a proper plot and it's moving along at a good pace. No time is wasted on filler or tedious training sequences. The hero understands that rather than simply becoming stronger himself, he needs to build up influence over the humans' numerous kingdoms and get them to prepare for the upcoming war.

While armed with future knowledge, the hero is making his moves much earlier in the timeline, so he is often as surprised as the reader is. There are some subversions of expectations (like with the attempted assassination on the princess) that are really fun to read. He also eventually learns more about demons and their internal factions than in his first life, showing that things aren't as simple as he thought.

Enemies are usually handled ruthlessly, which makes sense given that he hero is a war veteran inside a younger body, but once again isn't something I expected to see in a manga like this. The party aren't beyond trickery and assassination either. This is not treated in an edgy, self-satisfied way, but like the necessity it it.

If I had any complaints, it's that the two female members of the party didn't get any spotlight after their recruitment. They're kind of... just there. In contrast, the hero's male friend is well-developed and in my opinion more interesting than the hero himself, so there's that.

Have you ever thought about what would you do if you could travel back in time? In this story a young knight got a chance to change his past and try to save everybody from their tragic ends.

Story: 8/10

The story's main character is Kyle a young knight who defeated the Demon King but unfortunately he lost a lot of good friends and fellows. On the verge of his death he approaches a relic which sends him back to the past. Waking up in the past he seems very surprised and also happy. He decides to work as hard as possible to save the "world". After meeting some of his past friends they begin the travelling.

Art: 7/10

I not really can say anything about it. It looks good and the characters are well drew too. Fighting scenes are a bit messy but not the worst.

Character: 7/10

We not really know anything about the characters expect for Kyle. He was a very lazy kid but since he time traveled he became a very hard-working one.

His childhood friend Seran acts like an idiot who always aims for his owns good, but in the end he is very serious man and a very strong fighter who appears only in every 1000 years.

There are some supporting character but we not know anything about them maybe Rize who is in love with Kyle.

Enjoyment: 8/10

It is a really short story and it's still unfinished but if you are really bored you can have some fun while reading it.

In my opinion it's a good story, but there are better ones. You can have some fun with it but it's too short and unfinished. Still i enjoyed it and i am looking forward for the next chapters!

After reading 43 chapters my conclusion is as follows: The manga is a middle of the road shonen action-adventure fantasy, however, it is rather competently handled, I would give it a solid 7.

The first chapter starts off interesting. I appreciated that when the manga tried to garner sympathy for the main hero, it didn't go for the usual overblown drama and tragedy. The first chapter had a somber, melancholic tone as the fatally wounded main character was stumbling through the ashes of the battlefield in a world that became a ruin, while he was reminiscing about his life and about the decisions that lead him there. However, the story is not really about that, the more sorrowful tone is quickly gone. Instead, the plot becomes a generic action-adventure story, because the MC decides to become a hero, to alter history, and he needs heroic acts to do so. However, the story is not really about that either, because it dwells into fantasy politics quickly, which seems to be the current direction of the story. While it's nothing new, the fantasy politics is competently handled and is an entertaining read.

The characters are a mixed bag, the story focuses more on the males of the main party, Kail and Seran. Kail, our MC, is fine, rather generic, but nothing particularly problematic. Seran is the one that seems to get the spotlight, he is the one we learn about the most, and he is the only really interesting character of the story. The problems start with the females, who are so bland, that despite the fact that I just finished reading the manga, I already can't remember their names. They were both love interest of the MC, but wherein they died one after another in the previous timeline, here they are both alive and well, so we get a love triangle right off the bat. Thankfully the story forgets about that for the most part, unfortunately, it also completely forgets about their characters, their combat abilities gets a little fleshed out, but not their personality. Even the side characters were more memorable than the women of the main party. Because of that, the only meaningful character interactions we get are the ones between Kail and Seran. The characters are overall not the strongest point of the manga.

All in all Tsuyokute New Saga is a rather generic fantasy story, which may not offer much, but what it does, handles fairly well. Some of the characters, however, really needs some fleshing out. I would give the manga a solid 7.
