In the red light district's Sakaiya Ouno, although clumsy, attracts the attention of the public through her skill playing shamisen. Takasugi Shinsaku of the Kiheitai and Ouno are drawn to each other as the country begins to fall into war.

The story follows the "last battle" of the famous Japanese historical figure Hijikata Toshizou. It begins in 1868, both the first year of the new Meiji era, and the year before the Battle of Hakodate in 1869.

In 16th century Japan, Shinmen Takezou is a wild, rough young man, in both his appearance and his actions. Bloody Angel follows the tragic story of revenged-crazed Samurai Mitsunari Ishida. Based on the video game series "Sengoku Basara" by CAPCOM.

The story is set in the Sengoku period. A rounin called Nanashi (meaning "nameless") saves a young boy named Kotarou at an abandoned temple. Kotarou has no family, is pursued by a mysterious militia organization from China, and hires Nanashi as his bodyguard. Amongst the men who pursue Kotarou is a man called Rarou, a skilled warrior with blond hair and blue eyes. He obeys an old man called Byakuran and is a member of the Chinese militia. Unlike his companions in the militia, he isn't serving any Emperor and just wants to fight with the strong.
