Akumetsu 's review

Akumetsu is an irreverent and ultra-violent indictment of Japanese bureaucracy, government corruption, and the recession-era economy. The story follows a teenage "anti-hero" who publicly executes corrupt government officials in an attempt to change society through terrorism. As the public wonders whether his methods could ever be justified, the manga takes some deep dives into the various policies and trends that delivered Japanese society into its debt-crippled, hopeless present. It follows a long line of pulp stories where unscrupulous vigilantes take social change into their own hands, and races towards a thrilling conclusion. Whether you agree or not with the author's assessment of why things are the way they are, it's hard not to share in the protagonist's anti-establishment rage. The worst thing about Akumetsu is that it hasn't received a fan translation worthy of its wordier sections, and the stilted, amateur translations that are available online make these parts quite difficult to follow. Still, if you're interested in a bloody and stylish action series with a politically conscious bent, look no further.
