Ai Hime: Ai to Himegoto review

This manga has the best pieces of so many shoujos like it all wrapped together in a short and sweet story.

Based around Jin-nii and Mao's "forbidden love" (they are technically but not biologically uncle and niece) it has everyone's favourite snippets from some of the most popular mangas around: forbidden love (Akuma de Sourou, Faster than a Kiss); an attractive "adult" or older/maturer guy (Full House Kiss, StudentxTeacher mangas); passionate declarations of love (Kaikan Phrase, Boku ni natta Watashi); a possessive/jealous guy (Love Celeb) and real sincere emotion (Kare First Love).

A few rivals appear against Jinya, after Mao, a couple of times but these are mostly sweet and only used to show the depth of Jin-nii's feelings for Mao as well as providing a lot of comedy in Jinya's constant beating of his best friend Satoru (lol).

If you like every other shoujo you've read then this is a must read. It doesn't go on for ages until you loose track of reality. It's believable and rather sweet and, though the artwork concerning Mao leads to some very big eyes, generally the artistry is delicate and wistful- I personally really like Mitsuki Kako's ability to draw moisture or damp hair.

You've got your bishounen, your sweet girl who you can't really hate or be jealous of, funny storyline, a sweet forbidden relationship and the loveliest (if a little predicatable) epilogue to it. This manga is missing nothing...
