Akuma to Dolce

The story is about a girl who summons demons from hell throught some magic circles to fulfill her wish, by giving them sweets as payment.
One day she summons the Lord of hell, Beaut and the story blooms.
The art is awesome, you will enjoy reading it, maybe sometimes u will stop for a minute to admire the drawing.
Each Character has a different personaly. The girl is a plain ordinary girl with magic abilities. Beaut has the personality of a little kid who wants just sweets but is good to don't anger him cause it turns hell. haha
Beside the main characters, like in any story there are the evil girls trying to destroy the clothes of Ogura Mayuri. Beaut's servant and many side character making the story more interesting.
I guarantee you will enjoy this manga.

This was a great manga. It has everything you'd want in a manga, demon summoning, cute demons, sexy demons(; ,love frustration(you know the ones when the girl is in love with the guy but the guy doesn't really know but he loves her too), mean high school girls bullying, sad love scenarios (like the sexy demon boy she loves forgets about her and she kept trying to remind him |: , but of course he remembers! :D) and etc ! I absolutely loved this manga! i recommend it to all who would like to read it.

Story: So I guess the story was relatively unique. It's not often you hear about a girl who can summon demons to do her bidding in exchange for sweets. The individual "contracts" were pretty cute, too. It's very easy to get drawn into the story, and it's an incredibly fast read. I think my favorite aspect of the story is the fact that, occasionally, hilarious lines will be delivered by certain characters (primarily Beaut's shark follower). On such instance came from Frost, a demon:

*spoilers*
Frost kidnaps Mayuri and carries her back to hell in order to cause Beaut pain. Frost is surprisingly gentle despite his initial appearance, and it quickly becomes evident that he has no intentions to hurt Mayuri. He sincerely offers her an apple because she's hungry, but when she eats it, she becomes violently ill (since humans cannot eat hell food). He immediately calls in his doctors (which are some weird human/fish hybrids) and they say "first, I will need to look at her gills". At this point, Frost is freaking out. He replies "Mayuri!! Where are your gills?!" I just found this really funny.


Art:
The art is nothing special, but it's everything you'd expect it to be, considering the kind of story it is. The demons are alluring and attractive, Mayuri is plain, and everyone else is in between. I think if it were tossed into a line-up with several other shoujo manga, I wouldn't be able to pick it out.

Character:
I didn't have any problems with Mayuri at first, but the story progresses so quickly that I soon found her to be whiny and obnoxious. I understand that the main point of shoujo manga like this, is to show that even plain girls can get the guy of their dreams, but I like for there to be at least an ounce of credibility. I find it seriously hard to believe that a devil lord like Beaut would put up with the selfish demands of a teenage human. She's constantly crying and smacking him for talking to other girls without even once considering the fact that just maybe he's doing it for her. What I'm saying is, the relationship between Beaut and Mayuri can get annoying at times.

I absolutely love Makoto. Where Beaut's and Mayuri's relationship fails, I think Beaut's and Makoto's relationship (and even Makoto's and Mayuri's relationship) is truly believable and, at times, quite funny.

Overall I'm glad that I gave this manga a try. I always try to take something good from everything that I read, and Akuma to Dolce made it easy with characters like Makoto and the shark.

STORY:
I love mangas revolving around cooking/food and I really enjoyed some of Julietta's other works, so it was inevitable for me to read Akuma to Dolce.

Akuma to Dolce is a nice manga (such a shame it's on a seemingly permanent hiatus), but I find the pacing too abrupt/erratic. I never saw the love between Beaut and Mayuri grow. It like's at one point Mayuri saw Beaut (he is quite handsome) and decided to catch feelings for him. I was flabbergasted when the manga suddenly decided they were dating. I felt like I missed a few pages, because when did that officially happen? Later on, Mayuri even refers to herself as his girlfriend and he didn't seem surprised one bit. I guess it's common knowledge that they are together. I wonder if it was a translation mistake and “girlfriend” was used for lack of a better word.

The story seems really slice of life-ish, but that's probably due to the lack of arcs.

I really hate that the story used the amnesic/forget all memories trope. It was like resetting your level one hundred Pikachu back to one.

CHARACTERS:
I found some of the characters a bit bland.

I liked Beaut the most out of all the characters because he had a bit of a spoiled brat persona. He repeatedly turned down party invitations from the Devil himself. I mean who does that? This guy was a boss! He also had a cute, naive air about him. He lacked an understanding of human practices (like school and birthday parties) but never came off as the clueless idiot. He got jealous easily, which brings me back to his childish, brat personality. Beaut even cried when he got too worried. He really has an 'aww' factor.

The shark, Beaut's little helper, is just adorable! But...Why would sharks be in hell with no water source? Well, let's not think about that haha. It doesn't have to make sense! The bottom line is it was cute!

Mayuri's dad I found myself instantly liking him despite his overbearing ways. The interaction between Beaut and him was definitely funny.

Concerning Uphil, I found her unneeded. It's plain to see she's just another annoying love rival. I thought she could have had some redeeming qualities (like being able to ask for help even from a self-proposed enemy; not being prideful) but nope!

Mayuri was okay. She did not cry often (no Shoujo Crying Syndrome for her) whether that's due to the shortness of this manga or her character we don't really know. You could first perceive her as a cold person, but it turns out she really is just quiet and eager to make friends. She is a bit whiny, but I like her to say the least.

Uh, Mako I am neutral about. He was ordered to be Mayuri's friend and takes a liking to her. I feel like he was added to just be a part of Mayuri's harem. One moment he's just doing his job and the next he's teasing Beaut to leave them alone. Still, I really like him too! He is constantly giving Beaut relationship advice and he has good sense. Again, with the story’s pacing when did she find out Mako was ordered to be her friend?

Oh yeah, Frost? Score another one for Mayuri's harem. Whoo!

Tadano is a likable guy! If it weren't so blatantly obvious Mayuri's going to end up with Beaut I would think they make a nice couple.

The angel girls' club? The leader needed to be stripped of her wings. They were more annoying than Uphil.

ART:
I am a fan of the mangaka's art style, so it's no surprise I like Akuma to Dolce's artwork. I am used to the newer artwork in KK/KH, but you can barely tell this is an older work.

OVERALL:
I found the few volumes there are of this story as a fun way to pass the time. Although Mayuri is plain, her adventures are not in the slightest.

If Julietta ever chooses to pick this up again, I think her improved storytelling and art will make it better. If not, it was great while it lasted!
