Mars knows that nothing will stop him from tracking down his wife, Chantal, who'd betrayed him and sent him to prison for a crime he didn't commit. Chantal had died--or so everyone said--but Mars knew she'd merely transformed herself and reemerged into the spotlight as supermodel Mischief Jones.
Mars was a hard man, a bitter one, who'd survived by shutting off his emotions. But when he finally captured the woman he'd been hunting, the bewitching seductress with the luminous eyes denied everything. He was falling under her spell. Who was she really --an angel... or a cunningly brilliant counterfeit with an agenda of her own?
Based on Ann Major's novel, "Secret Child".

Gold review
Let me get this straight first- i usually dont read josei romance manga. What the hell, I generally only like manga that has a bunch of random crap . . . so when I found myself captivated by manga, I surprised myself. However, now that I've finished reading Gold, I don't see why I was so surprised. In fact, I should be ashamed of assuming that all romance manga were cliche and crappy. While Gold undoubtedly has cliche moments, the plot is definitely unique, and the characters help make it a lot better- bad guys included. However, I still love how realistic it remains and
now I'm wondering if I'm only this excited because I don't read that much josei romance mangas and don't know what to expect. But then again, it's not like I havent tried them before. . .
I really mean it- the characters and the story, after you read a bit, will keep you hooked. Even if you find a way to abandon it and leave it aside, theres a constant nagging in the back of your head that screams, "I want to know what happens next! What does the main character do?! How does it end up?!" While the characters indivually may not be too special, with the plot, they blossom. In addition to the fantastic art (not to mention that this manga isn't exactly some recently released thing. . . Anyway, there are undoubtedly mature parts (sex scenes) and even though I'm still underage *coughcough* I still found myself intrigued in the story and the "inappropiate parts" weren't really used like some kind of ero-manga, it was used to boost the plot and develope the characters. To be honest, explaining this is hard- what the hell, explaining the manga is hard. You have to read it to understand it, otherwise you'll just stay biased and think this is some stupid manga for old women with no taste. >>>>>>> i know this review isn't really helpful, but there wasn't any (reviews) and i just wanted to at least encourage a couple of people to read Gold. |

This was a pretty decent manga with a pretty decent story line. It has enough drama to keep you interested and will make you want to finish it. With that being said most of it was pretty predictable.
If you are interested in reading a manga about two people who are determined to be together through various obstacles caused by pretty much the same character repeatedly, this will be for you. This story has to do a lot with starting from the bottom, making it to the top, losing it all and trying to get it back. Along with characters finding who they are and building strength throughout the story within themselves and their love partners. Overall, it's not bad. Don't expect any wow factors though. |

"Gold is better than Silver" the saying goes, well not in this case.
I came across Gold because the art was done by Kazuko Fujita whose art I adore. So first off, when I started reading, I thought the drama meter is pretty much the same as in manga "Silver." Oh, boy was I wrong. Story 6/10 The story starts dramatic and interesting, grabs your attention on the first page. Later on, you are like, okay, this is way too dramatic even for a cliche manga. I don't even know where to start with the things... I was like: I just can't... So this is one of the soap operas where you continue to read just because you... Ummm....Want to finish the manga, and despite everything hope that the heroine is not that dumb. Maybe, just maybe she will be smarter. Characters: 5/10 Cliche over 9000. And I read over a thousand josei manga, just sayin' Heroine is stupid. What I hate the most is typical "Oh, she is good therefore we will make her the dumbest individual here." So tired of good=stupid shit. I will just mention plastic surgery, you will see. The hero is no better. You think he should be the reasonable one in the relationship and be able to detect crap, because life slapped him sufficiently, but no, the villainess toys with him in the same way as she does with the heroine. Which brings us to MISCHIEF. JUST HER NAME. My god. Is there a word that exceeds the definition of a word cliche? If this was not a soap opera you would get rid of her the first chance you get. And the story would be better! BUT NO. I won't go into details of how much I would slap her, but you know when the main charas are dumb as these, they kinda deserve it. Rest of the characters .... (sound of crickets in the background) Art 10/10 I adore Kazuko Fujita's art. Enjoyment 7/10 Even though there are many things I didn't like, I also read this twice so yeah it pretty decent compared to the many of the josei ones I read. It did keep me glued but dragged waaaaaaaaaaay too much. (comparison: Goku vs Freeza, 5 minutes 'till Namek explodes. Also, Mischief is indestructible something like Broly.) And in the end I rolled my eyes heavily after talk no justu. Overall 6/10 Quick and easy read, if you are a fan of josei genre, you can kill time with it. |
