Koimoku

Koimoku is a relatively weird series, focusing on one aspiring mangaka by the name of Inamine Kouta. As he tries to achieve his lofty goal, what ensues is what was meant to be a touching story of human nature, and also morals, but it doesn't really reach those heights.

Story : 8
The story is relatively unique, but at the same time sort of cliche. It has a typical shounen style setup, with a MC having a dream, but failing repeatedly to achieve it. Then along his journey, he encounters a few friends who help him along, and also some setbacks, which he thoroughly brushes off with sheer obliviousness and kindness. In the end, he archives this goal, and lives happily ever after.
The first thing after reading( or maybe even during ) you notice is that the story really seems rushed. This feels so especially after the 14 chapter. This can contribute to the sense of stress and panic the MC feels from his manga I suppose. The characters have really weird motivations, and also their personality changes don't really make sense sometimes. This causes disconnects, which really hurt the story.

Art : 7
The art isn't terribly good, but manages to convey the mangaka's vision, if somewhat in a lackluster way. The character designs were very downplayed, sticking close to what a real human would look like, no crazy hair or anything. There is fan service, but only a few scenes, and they only last a couple of frames each.

Characters : 6
The characters are the basis of any romcom, and as such they need to be fully established. The characters in koimoku are relatively stereotypical, and some don't even have any backstory, and feel like they were just thrown in for that one purpose, to help the MC. Some characters frequently break character, leaving disconnects in their image, which doesn't help. Interaction sometimes seems forced, so many scenes have a a very awkward feel to them.

Enjoyment : 6
This is a manga for enjoyment. All manga is for enjoyment. If a manga doesn't even fulfill this small task, is is inevitably going to fail. Koimoku provided enough of enjoyment, but didn't really broach anything new. The last few chapters had some really fast paced scenes, but this really breaks from the rest of the manga.

This isn't a manga everyone will enjoy. This isn't a question of ecchi lover or not. This is a question of whether the characters are more important, or the overall setting and story. This is invariably a story and setting manga in my opinion, and relies on its readers' curiosity and interest in manga and its industry to attract them.

This piece of dog shit tried so hard to be a deconstruction of the "mangaka" genre that it ended up sending a bad message to aspiring mangakas. Seriously? Manga need boobs to sell? Fucking annoying characters with almost no development whatsoever and a rushed ending.

First off let me tell you the good part of the manga. The art.... That's all the good the part in this manga.

The story: Okay, in the beginning, I was hooked. An artist struggle to make his own art, that shit has never been explored much in this type of way. A very dark and sad way. I am a sucker for sad and depressing story and the first couple of chapter is just that. And then it became a stereotype harem and people unreasonably harshly punish the main character. That is not to say the main character is good, No.. He is fucking atrocious as a character. I will get to that later. Then the ending happened. Oh dear fucking god. That ending is fucking rushed and it is like a 12 year old wrote that ending. It is a happy ending however. But in the end, I'm not happy. Am I happy? Nah.... Fuck that shit.

The character: So, this is where they did horribly, HORRIBLY WRONG.. The main character, whatever the fuck his name is. He doesn't develop.. AT ALL. He has been through shit, a whole fucking lot of shit at that and he still cries like a little fucking bitch when a baby peed on his shirt. The development is THAT. FUCKING. BAD. And that red haired chick, her fucking moral is wrong and the way she acts is EVIL. She is the embodiment of fucking, corrupt corporation that only cares about MONEY!! And the fucking manga tried to portray her as a "good guy that has been through a lot" and it failed and the fucking moral it thought does not apply in real life. At least not in my fucking country, fucking Japan and their low birthrates because of those FUCKING 2D GIRL LOVING SHITHEADS!!... I'm sorry Japan. I'm just really REALLY angry because I saw this shit on my fucking list and wanting to vent out. On chapter what-ever-the-fuck, the main character is clearly BLEEDING OUT OF HIS GOD DAMN FUCKING NOSE. SHE DOES NOT ENCOURAGE HIM TO STOP FOR THE SAKE OF HIS OWN FUCKING HEALTH!! The fucking slut is pointless. The loli chick is fucking ANNOYIIINGG. From professional mangakas, they CLEARLY KNOWS WHAT ASSISTANT MEANS AND WHAT THEY ARE SUPPOSE TO DO.. The fucking black haired chick is suddenly a love interest?? What?? They are trying to go with the "unexpected love interest" but it failed. Go read Onani Master Kurosawa for a good example of fucking "unexpected love interest", you god damn pieces of filthy shit. The other characters are not that bad but not really good either. The antagonist, the arrogant fuckhead, the novelist, the guys from the manga factory, all of them are not bad but also not good. Except the chick who explained how the company is not wrong for making this huge studio for one manga. It is not good. It is highly impractical and overall expensive and I couldn't see the company gaining profit by selling a cheap book that took 100 dudes to make and is still not as good as what one fucking guy can make.

In the end it still is a classic, you know? I couldn't bring myself to hate it forever... O WAIT, I FUCKING COULD.. FUCK THIS PIECE OF SHIT AND FUCK ANYONE WHO SAYS THIS FUCKING MANGA BROUGHT A GOOD FUCKING MESSAGE.. FUCK YOU.. GOOD BYE AND THANK YOU FOR READING THIS REVIEW..

I never tried to write a review for a manga, but ehh what the heck I'll bite. So anyways I'll start.


In these days of age, manga has become increasing popular, reeling in newer readers, we get drawn in with the art of each panel, the impact-full dialogues, and the imagination that blossoms in our mind when we dive into this comic world. We always eagerly await for the next chapter to release of our favorite manga, always keeping tab of everything the author is doing, and paying attention to the details within the works. We are in awe of how these people can create stories and draw us in, bringing out our inner most thoughts and feelings. And sometimes we as reader become so passionate, that some of us want to create a piece that can make that same feeling you had, but in your own work. However sometimes we tend to overlook at the real work that goes behind those manga, while we get yes the drawing of pictures and making deadlines, we as readers don't truly know exactly how the business work, now do we?

However in this story one young man, will see that the business of becoming a mangaka author, is a bit of a steep slope. Kouta Inamine the main character of the series will learn what it truly takes to climb the ladder of this industry just to share the same awe feeling he had reading other manga, and having people feel the same in his work. Will he succeed?

Story: 7
The story is about a young college boy name Kouta Inamine, he is an inspired to be mangaka author, doing what he can to get his name out there. However he would soon see that, that is easier said then done, as his first few gigs ended in a failure. It wasn't until his neighbor Hinata Sawanoguchi reads his storyboard, that her interest peeks, and to his delight he found out she is a cheif editor of a publishing magazine company know as Comic Splash. It will be Sawanoguchi who will try to polish this novice into a pro like none has seen before, but like most creative novice, their ego gets in the way and this will cause him to have doubts with everyone and himself, as he bounces around different publisher and authors until he finally gets his foot in.

This story helps us the reader see what is like to become a rookie author, and the challenge those must face, of course we know nothing in life is easy, but this series shows that sometimes making it to the top is not always possible without at least a helping hand, and the author did what he can to show that in this story. A great theme nonetheless!

Art: 6
Knowing the author you would already know the art style he really likes to use, the art style resembles more of traditional Korean Manwha than it does Japanese Manga, however it's still works, while yes the female characters are drawn to be voluptuous, it helps draw in readers eyes, mostly males, some females of course. Sexiness is an art form and the author never fails to to deliver that aspect in his work. And it's very consistent with rarely to no drop in quality, however I rated this a 6 because if you're familiar with his other work this art style would start to feel bland to you, and make it feel like he isn't trying to tackle a new form. However it still works so why not, right?

Characters: 7
Now the characters here, they each have their upside but their downside usually shows more. The main protagonist Kouta still falls under the typical weak and ditzy but very kind main character, this cliche gets pretty old, however his inspiration and determination will have you rooting for him. There is development in him luckily, goes from and egotistical author to someone who is grateful for those around him to help... Well... Let me not spoil anything. Sawanoguchi, is a character that is an intense motivator, her way of pushing you to bring out your inner most talents are a bit barbaric however she represent the industries pressure on author, but she does it with a good cause, most time she will look like the enemy and a two-timer, but she is honestly earnest in bring out your true potential. Most of the other characters are there for advice, inspiration, and motivation, but the only other character you want to pay attention to, is Sayaka Juumonji, she plays a key role to help the reader, so always read patiently each character has their reason for being there, there is rarely any useless character.

Enjoyement: 7
Well this one is up for debate, the enjoyment mostly come from watching someone become nothing to achieving their goals in today's competitive industry. However most can find enjoyment from the bit of ecchi moments, however they don't really drown the story, it is only used during wildcard moments, so for those who want to read a story with ecchi elements to it, but not so extreme then this series has done it right! However it can be a tad bit boring too if you're just skimming along and hoping for some boobage, this series will give you an idea of how the industry is and where money and reputation play in role. So it's a good insight, and a glimmer of hope for those who want to be future authors, that maybe they'll find someone that will push them to maximize their skills.

This series is a good change of pace, not every time you're given a story about manga in a manga, and it's short and simple, and doesn't get very complicated. For those who are a fan of this author, it's a definite pick-up to compare his growth. for those who are not fan but are still casual reader, if you want something that is light, but real try it, you're perspective of how the business is may not be affected but at least it's a story that feels complete in a way.

This is manga was something fresh and a bit different from what i have been reading so far.
This isn't really a story on the creation of manga but rather it gives a hint to the mindset of pro mangakas that Bakuman didn't really capture in all honesty.
Also the romance in the manga was something completely unexpected but understandable. I like these type of romances unlike the ones with falling in love at first sight.
I dont really understand why I like this manga so much but I really enjoyed it.
If you are looking for something a bit different give this a read. Also i would suggest not shipping the two main characters together. Or else you may end up feeling a bit frustrated which is understandable when romances dont really go the way you want them to.

I don't usually write reviews down here but I felt like I had to express my opinions for this one.

To put it short, I did not enjoy this manga.

Yes, the manga does have incredibly good looking art and the starting chapters were enough to get one interested in reading more of it. However, as the story kept progressing, it was as if the author was simply too up himself and started spouting ideals that were questionable, morally incorrect and down right confusing, frustrating and wrong. He tries to justify the views (specifically the female editor's) by adding in drama but ended up simply making the story a convoluted mess, not that it was already messed up to begin with.

The manga tries to hide its flaws by shoving down cleavage and female curves to your eyes for every chance it can attain but with the seriousness of the topic at hand, it only makes the experience of reading it extremely jarring and, as previously mentioned, extremely frustrating. The abrupt ending of the manga doesn't help either.

Well, if the story is unsalvageable, then at least the characters should be able to make the manga a bit more readable right? Maybe, but when every single character except 3 are villainous pricks and relentless bitches, how the hell is one supposed to enjoy this at all?! Not to mention, one of those characters who's NOT a villain (the main protagonist) is basically a wussy Shinji Ikari clone. It is depressing to think that the most likeable character in this whole manga is a prostitute that the main protagonist met. That in itself should give someone who hasn't read this an idea of just how bad the rest of the characters are.

In the end, this is a manga that was too up itself that tried too hard to save its hide by using ecchii but ended up falling flat on its face in a pile of cesspit.

In my opinion, if you ever come across this, avoid it like the plague.
If you want to read a manga about the creation of manga, read the infinitely superior Bakuman instead and if you want to read something ecchii read anything else but this.

This manga is a simple, no deep thinking is needed. Well thats what are the weak but also the strong points. But lets go review. The story is that a aspiring young manga artist Inamine Kouta is trying his all to make his debut in the manga industry.

Story (8/10):
Story is not the strongest point of this manga but because this simpleness its also a good manga for people which don`t like to read manga with deep meanings.
But it doesn`t mean its a manga for simpletons. It evolves pretty quickly and there are many possibilities to make a even more addicted manga from it.

Art (10/10):
The art is for lovers of Im Dal Young work like Freezing or Legend of Maian. Pretty girls with huge "Cleavage", great facial expressions and many ecchi scenes.

Character (9/10):
The characters are pretty straight. Simple, lazy, clumsy, hardworking...
All of them express how is their character. Each character has his background
which will be later revealed. But they have each they own appeal.

Enjoyment (9/10):
Well for everyone who likes flashy ecchi busty girls which almost in every chapter reveal their "intimate parts". There is much fun and ecchiness, so everyone who enjoy Im Dal Young other works would also enjoy this one.

Overall (9/10):
This manga is like a ecchi comedy of serious life of aspiring manga artist with many small side stories. You would love it or if not at least you would enjoy it for relax type of manga without deep thinking. And the beautiful girls and hardworking guys would help you to fall in love with this manga.
