Plastic Girl review
Plastic girl is something special,it can't be really defined as a manga.
In primis, the graphic is really uncommon for a manga:almost every page is colored and has a frame made with wood, tissue, burned paper,etc... The frames aren't drawned:they're like photographed from reality and then added to the drawings. Another thing I noticed is the alternation between very bright pictures and very dark, shadowed, more tridimensional ones. The graphic enhanced the story pretty well. Talking about the story,Plastic Girl doesn''t follow an unique storyline, but is instead a group of very short stories, The protagonist is a little girl dealing with the problems of adolescence, like the changements of her body,etc..Well,this is only one of the main ideas and the author choose an extremely weird, eccentric way to represent it. In fact, for all I've write until now,a reader could get the idea this manga is ok for everyone but I have to say Plastic Girl isn't really suited for all kind of public, not only for his uniqueness, but for his crepiness and for some strong, gory like scenes. Moral:don't let little kids find it! Well anyway, this manga is kinda twisted and slightly philosophical, sharing an uncommon point of view-the protagonist's one- about life. The girl's experiences and thoughts are far from a real human girl of this age, disturbing and sometimes confusing. I too,am not really sure of totally having understood Plastic Girl's meaning, because this manga needs to be interpreted...it definitely isn't a shonen manga with easy dialogues and a lot of battles. In fact,Plastic girl is a really unknow manga,mostly-I think-for its shortness, difficult understanding and creepiness. As I write before,it's not suited for everyone, but I hightly recommend it to someone searching for a dark, gory, artistic, unconventional manga. |
Plastic Girl review
The primary pull of Plastic Girl would be its aesthetic -each page is a work of art. The style is charming enough to appeal outside of an artistic following. I could've given more than a 6 if I didn't think the quality suffers where it's too sloppy, even when considering it's a stylistic choice.
The theme of innocence was firm and put across clearly. It's generally extreme -take it or leave it- and it wasn't predictable, but neither was it particularly fresh. It didn't succeed in making me think as much as it aimed to, and it didn't make me want more. The character wasn't especially remarkable in design but she offered complexity, a few of which made me smile. Despite this manga's nature I'd argue it's some degree of relatable to young women around the world, so I would recommend it for a quick read. |
Plastic Girl review
I've read many, many romance manga & this one is no different. First of all, it is only one volume, which is not clearly enough to entertain me. Many manga can pull it off, but this one, I find myself wanting more from it.
It starts off with a girl who clearly can't smile and makes ugly faces between shots in her photo shoots. Having her career going slightly downhill she looks for comport in a young maintenance worker. Day after day, she finds herself falling in love with him. Typical love story right? Yes, it is. For a everyday love story you will find your comport in this one. For me, I intend to find this manga, a blow off. It's clearly not original nor does this stand out. I'm looking for a edge of my seat, laugh out loud, and amazing story I will never forget. You tend to forget this one a the nick of time (: |
Plastic Girl review
I found this manga to flow pretty well.
The characters are likable, Maya is funny, with her weird expressions and she has a likable personality. Summary: Maya's a model and she's actually quite good, except that when she tries to smile on camera, she looks HORRIBLE! In walks in Pierre, he delivers food. Her heart stops when she sees him and if he's there she could smile a smile that could light up the sun (lol). Turns out that Pierre has a few secrets of his own... The art was very nicely done and the mystery behind some of the characters is one of the reasons you continue to read until the end. Not to mention LOL moments. I recommend it, I mean it takes a few minutes to read since it's only one volume and it's a good laugh :) |
Plastic Girl review
So, this is one of the typical romance stories.
A girl finds herself in a tough situation, in this case Maya, a model who can't smile properly in front of cameras... until she meets Pierre, the lunch box seller, who she ends up falling in love with. The characters are very adorable, and are very easy to grow fond of, even though the story is so short. It's very cliché though, with not that many surprises in that plot, and personally, I could use a little more drama in their relationship, that in my opinion is just too sickly sweet. However, it's not all bad. It's drawn well; not very unique, but typical shoujo manga style with sparkles, pretty eyes, great details in the clothing and lots of cute backgrounds. If you're looking for a short, cute story as a way of wasting time, then it's perfect for you. It gives a few laughs here and then, but it's no sensation if you look at the plot. It's like your typical fairy tale, fun to read, but no good if you're the type that wants a complex plot and deep characters. |
