Real Clothes review
Makimura Satoru is a mangaka that is well known for writing Josei stories that are based around the industry, the real world. I had read Oishi Kankei before this and I knew what I was getting myself into. That series focused on the food and restaurant industry while this one was focused on clothing and department store industry - retail, basically. I learned so much.
I had expected more romance out of it but it was presented in a very refreshing and different way overall. I liked how the main character evolved here. She starts off as a very weak, average character but grows into a strong woman by the end of the series. This series talks a lot about independence and character. Kinue gains a personality and learns how to love herself rather than becoming the traditional woman who stays at home, bears children and cooks all the meals. This series is about her falling in love... with her work. I really liked this aspect. In most Shoujo/Josei, it revolves around the girl loving some guy and the guy doing something and then the girl following whatever the guy does. No, this series is rather the opposite. Kinue's work controls her life and she very much loves it. She makes lots of friends at work, all very different people. The coworkers were pretty interesting as well like Nico and Mami. It's unfortunate that the character designs and personalities were not as strong for them. Art overall is a bit inconsistent but it works for me still. Why is it just a 7/10 from me? I felt that something was lacking. It's just about work and in the end, that's it. There is not much else to it after a big event that happens earlier when she makes a big decision. I wished there was a bit more to it other than "let's make our department store the best!". Overall, this is good manga if you want to learn a lot about retail and fashion. Not only that but watch a character grow into a working woman. I wouldn't recommend it if you want to see something different with unique characters with cool backstories because most of the characters do not get to shine. |
Real Clothes review
I felt like this manga should get a higher score. I wonder why it is on the low 7 end. To sum it up quickly, it's like "The Devil Wears Prada". But that is only the beginning part of it.
The beauty of this manga is that it focuses on a very relatable topic: clothes/fashion. Since it is geared toward female readers, this is the perfect topic. To top it off, we have Amano-chan, our female protagonist, who is the embodiment of all the ambitious women. For every page that I read, all I could think of was I wish work could be this fun. Although work is the big focus of this manga, we see the characters deals with problems in their love lives, too. That is why each and every character is so alive and lovable. I had so much fun reading this manga, and it really infuse energy into me through the way Amano works. I would say this is an almost 9 for me since I have not been able to read the ending yet (manga still being translated). |
Real Clothes review
I picked up this manga randomly out of sheer boredom, never though that 6 hours later I would find my self still reading it and wanting more!! there is nothing extraordinary about it. if you're looking for a super gorgeous manga full of hot stylish guys and a glamorous heroin then this is not for you. "Real clothes" is simple, realistic and down to earth. Mainly it's about 27 years old Amano Kinue, la successful futon saleswoman in the department store (Echizenya). Kinue is plain, chubby and has absolutely no interest or knowledge about anything related to fashion and make up. Suddenly she gets transferred to the high class woman's clothing store, there we see her struggle while trying to adapt to her new job and new co-workers in a realistic, easy to relate to setting which was really fun to watch. As for the characters: we have a few very lovable once; Kinue is very hard working and determent, it was very refreshing to have a female main character who isn't diving into the arms of every man she comes across, and I LOVED how she dales with her private matters in a non overly dramatic way. And Tabuchi Yusakua, a big shot buyer and kinue's manager. I ABSOLUTELY ADORE this guy, his funny overly exited character was completely unexpected from someone in his position, and his assistant Nikolin with his unique afro is a breath of fresh air, the comedic scenes that they provided were hilarious. the art wasn't something jaw dropping or memorable to say the least but it fits perfectly with the story and purpose of this manga; which is the clothes and a clear image the type of body each individual has. Enjoyment: I'd give it an 8. solely on the fact that I read 55 chapters in one go (the number of chapter available at the moment.) overall: I'd recommend this for anyone who loves fashion related manga or someone who is looking for something different to read. If you're sick of romance filled mangas and whiny weak willed girls give this a try, even though I'm not that interested in fashion I certainly found my self wanting to work under Tabuchi-san, if only there were bosses like him in real life :( |
