It's been a year since Misumi-senpai died. Fujinami Kou is still mourning in his heart for him when he accidentally meets Kakitsubata Saki who is a year younger student in his school and looks just like Misumi. The quiet Kou and the straightforward Saki become friends and with time they learn more about each other leaving Saki torn when he happens to get in his hands Misumi's diary. What is the right choice?

Senpai review
This story was very cute and quite concise, in a good way, at 8 chapters. One thing that really stuck out to me was the background art--normally it's quite generic in these sorts of short manga, but it was very detailed. Detailed enough that as someone who lives in Kanagawa Prefecture, I was immediately able to place 9 out of 10 backgrounds to a specific location! Most of this manga takes place in Kamakura, though the Enoshima Aquarium makes a cameo as well.
Overall, it's a sweet, short story that did quite well for its premise of a character looking like the other's dead lover. It even managed to address the feelings of all involved in that incident, which is a feat for only having 8 chapters to narrate a romance. As an LGBT+ reader, it's certainly an idealized situation, but it held to be mostly realistic otherwise. Definitely recommend! |
