* there might be a little spoiler details but I won’t really spoil anything big*

I just finished reading this series recently. I came to know this story from Bastard, another story by the same authors, Youngchan Hwang, and Carnby Kim.

This story is themed thriller - horror, but you get such emotions from reading the story.
As you probably already know and saw this on summery, The story is about the messed up high schooler Hyun, that is just sick and tired of everything and just wants to run away from everything, but instead turns out in a worse place and suddenly everything shatters and he has to fight for survival with people even more messed up than him, but he unwillingly changes and decides to not run away anymore. (just my wild own imaginary summery of the story)

I give the Artwork and story 10/10

The artwork is really great. And the story is perfect. I just love how they are put into hopeless situations and they’re completely desperate...

Characters 10

Most of the characters were messed up in a way, some had shady and sad pasts, some had wicked personalities... But I liked reading the story as they tried to change themselves and hopelessly struggle and form friendships, save each other, compete for survival.

over all: 10
(I give everything 10 / 10, everything. I just feel guilty if I don’t)

I really enjoyed this series, I used to wait every Monday for the official English translation and I would always compete with other readers of the story for top comment haha. And I really enjoyed turning the volume up to the end just to listen to the bgm at the end, Sweet Home by mz.

But everyone has different judgements after reading the series themselves.
Some may say the end was sad, some say it was happy....

“Sometimes even to live is an act of courage.”

In a nutshell
How much does a hikikomori need to be happy? A warm apartment, where everyone should know to shut the fuck up and to never annoy you, and a stable internet connection, because you should always be able to access the internet and tell everyone how much of douchebags they are. At least, that is a definition of Hyun Cha. His parents die in a car accident and even this does not change his take on life. “Worthless parents, they left me 2.000$. How am I supposed to live like that? So to hell with them.” Hyun Cha even sets the “day X” on his phone, the day when he will finally end this nonsense, called the life. However, he moves in a cheap dormitory that makes him change his world view. What exactly did he see?

Story
After an unexpected family tragedy, a high school student Hyun Cha is forced to leave his home and move into an inexpensive dormitory. Realizing how worthless his life is, thinking the whole world sucks and is nothing but a bunch of nonsense, he decides that it is time to end it all. Comically, before the day of the suicide comes, the world is no more: some unknown disease attacks the humanity, turning people into flesh hungry monsters. However, after some time, the humanity finds more details about the disease:
-nosebleed and faints are the first symptoms of the disease;
-you cannot kill monsters;
-before a person becomes a monster, there is a time window, during which monsters can be killed;
-there is no cure;
-there is no escaping;
-this is the fight to the death between the humanity and the virus.

There are, of course, still many important details about the disease that I have not mentioned yet and they make this disease even more interesting. After all, today we are living in very challenging times, when the world suffers from the COVID-19 pandemic. Many countries, including: the US, Russia, China, as well as other countries develop vaccines to cure the virus, including the DNA vaccines. Do you understand what I am trying to say? Precisely! At times like this, this manhwa is just so awesome to read. But this is not what this review is about. Story wise, Sweet Home is perfect. Though, this is one of these manhwa, where the author leaves many things for the reader to interpret, so be ready for a bit of thinking.

Characters
Character wise, this manhwa has many things to offer. Simply because of the fact that there are many characters, they all have their personalities that are also very different and unique and, of course, their development is something you need to see by yourself. What I mean is that how you first see the characters of the manhwa and who they become near the end of it. And this is just awesome. At first, you see some boring and cliché personalities and that makes you underestimate this manhwa. However, the more you read, the more you find out about the story and the characters and, trust me, you will never call them boring. Another thing worth mentioning is that the manhwa does not focus only on the main characters, it also gives more than enough time to shine for the supporting characters: you will read their backstories and find out simply everything you need to know.

Overall
Sweet Home is one of the best horror manhwa, I have read. Sweet Home is just like a puzzle. At first, it looks terrible. Little by little, piece by piece, this puzzle becomes better and better. And after the final piece, after the final chapter, you will see how beautiful it is. As I have already mentioned in my review, in this manhwa, many things are left for the reader to decide, you will need to think about many things. If you are ready for it, welcome to the feels train. If such things are not for your liking and you prefer manhwa that explain every single detail to you, I would suggest you to avoid that manhwa. But it is up to you to decide.

With that being said, do read it! It does have a slow start, those who are patient, however, will be rewarded with an amazing story, they will not forget for a long while.

*This review contains little to no spoilers. Also, by the time this review was published only 125 chapters had been released to the public*

There are thousands of movies, animes and mangas about zombie apocalypses and that's something we all know. You don't really need to innovate when it comes to creating a successful story as long as it involves people fighting against the undead. It works, it always worked and it always will.

Sweet Home goes the extra mile, giving zombies a unique twist: it's not about a virus. It's about something else. And that tiny change makes all the difference in the world.

The story is kind of straightforward: everything used to be fine and suddenly boom monsters everywhere. Innovation is not its strongest point early on until you start finding out how things came to be, specially regarding the nature of the infection. There is a lot of fanservice when it comes to giving the main character a romantic interest or two but it doesn't come off as forced or annoying. But maybe that's just because I ship everything all the time. 8/10

The art is... pretty good honestly. It works for the same reason Scott Pilgrim's art did: it's not about polishing an artstyle, but about creating one. This duo has released two manhwas so far and they seemed to stick to the same principle: thick, clean lines and a limited color palette. 9/10 purely based on personal preference.

Now, if the art is ashtonishing the characters are even better. Despite dealing with a relatively huge cast the authors managed to make everyone feel real enough and unique, giving them aspirations, fears and desires. Some characters will evolve along the way, some won't. There is also this common technique about creating conflict by making characters that want completely different things face each other's desires, often failing to come to a mutual agreement. Regarding the monsters, they have some amazing designs and backstories (yes, every monster is different!). The characters being Sweet Home's forte I feel like they deserve a solid 10/10.

Regarding the overall enjoyment, this manhwa feels a bit slow sometimes. Which is not bad, and doesn't mean it fails to be amazing. That said, sometimes you'll be a bit irritated because you want to know the outcome of certain events and you'll have to wait a bit. The manhwa will also narrate different characters' occurencces simultaneously, some more interesting than others. It will definitely hook you, but in a way that can be a bit irritating. 7/10, most people will probably disagree with me on this one.

Overall, if you like zombie stories you'll probably love this manhwa. It's creative, beautifully drawn and it presents a pretty relatable and enjoyable cast. There is a Netflix adaptation coming later this year, and I hope it's just as good. By the way, if you're reading this, you're extremely gay.

*The story is not yet finished, so this only reflects the early chapters*

This Manwa is the type of post-apocalyptic story that one could enjoy. I enjoy an excellent monster-related tale, and this is right down my ally. The psychological theme behind the monsters is genuinely magnificent.

*Minor spoilers territory.*
Stroy 8/10
The setting of the story is delightful, to begin with. The whole story so far was centered around one single building, very similar to the movie and novel mist. This one singular building reflects the devastation humanity is facing during this apocalypse. During this extreme period, we could see the struggle that people face, such as sacrifices and pain. It enhanced people as they are; the violent people grew more violent; the kind people became more compassionate; the selfish people became more selfish. It is fascinating to see people turning against each other and clashes. Another exciting gimmick is that the monsters that are destroying their ordinary life have initially been humans. Meaning, anyone could turn at any point, which further turned the survivors against themselves. Not only that, but the trigger that turns humans into monsters was also their desire; the stronger the desire, the faster they will convert. The monster will reflect their desire and be an extremely enhanced version of that desire. For example, a former bodybuilder had a dream to be extremely fit, so he turned into a hulk-like muscle backed being. This allowed the author to explore the depth of the human mind further. However, I couldn't give it a full score because there are a few places where it doesn't make sense. Some character's motives were not entirely justified and do things just because they are bad people, which is not how real humans act. This could just be the fact that there are way too many characters, and it is hard to manage all of them, which is entirely understandable.

Art 9/10
The art is elementary and easy to understand, but the monster is still really manacing. The pacing and mood control with the panel is merely incredible. The cliff hanger at the end of every chapter is enough to push anyone to the next. Because this is a Korean Manwa, it does not reply on page turn; Instead, it uses scrolling, which is a whole new experience.

Character 9/10
I feel like this is the best part of the story. Even though there are a few that didn't make sense, as I said earlier, but the main character and most others do feel like real humans. I could see people making the decisions that they made during the run-up of the story. They do have exaggerated features, as all fiction character does, but other than that they are pretty realistic. The mother who lost her kid wanted to protect others. The former police who sees himself as justice. The gamer who is helping others because he wanted to feel in charge.
All of them are excellent and real characters that I can get behind. In this situation, there are no villains; everyone does something to gain something. Which also fed the theme.

I enjoyed the heck out of this manwa and can't wait to see more from it.

This is my first review ever so I'm sorry if I missed something or blabbered about unnecesary stuff. >.<

I may sound like a fangirl, but trust me, this series is one of the best things I've ever read. I found it randomly on webtoon a month before it became a daily pass, and I'm glad I got to read it without cliffhangers. The action has so much tension, it just keeps you reading for hours with that `just one more chapter` thought and that's how I spent my nights for the past few weeks.

Story: 10/10

The story is not one of those endless things that make you even forget where it all started. It's short and to the point. Almost everything happens in a single building, in a rather short time. The plot is really interesting and also intriguing. It's based on everyone's inner desire and makes you question yourself `what if I was in there?` or `what would I do in such a situation?`

Art: 10/10

The art is just perfect according to the genre imo. What more could someone ask for a thriller? The dark shades and the lack of bright colors get it even more onto the point. You can only see bright backgrounds when someone's smiling to show the readers that `even the blackest darkness disappears in the faintest light`.

Characters: I'd give it an 11/10 if I could

This is the best part of this manhwa. Almost every character has a backstory portrayed at some point, showing us that there's a reason why they became like that. Every character had their moment and everyone got to show what they're made of. The mc displays one of the most complex character development. Unfortunately, not all of the heroes of the story make it out alive, but we get to learn a lesson about the importance of our lives from every death.

Enjoyment: 10/10

I was literally living through this manhwa while reading. I'm gonna miss the emotions a had every night reading it. I WANT TO READ IT ALL OVER AGAIN FOR THE FIRTS TIME. I re-read the final chapter sometimes and I still get tears in my eyes. Some of them from sadness, and some of them from happyness.

This is all I have to say about it and I hope y'all already found or will find in the near future your Sweet Home. Much love <3
