Though his name may mean good luck, Daikichi is far from lucky. Losing his home and his job, he narrowly avoids being homeless when he finds an old abandoned apartment building. But the apartment isn't nearly as abandoned as it first appeared, as it's being occupied by the ghost of a girl who committed suicide there many years ago.

this is a hard one to review.

this manga is almost completely episodic, where any one chapter can be read out of order. so i gave it a 6 because of an over all lack of story.

the art is almost perfect for this kind of manga, but at points i do wish there was something a little more.

characters, this is where the manga shines, i dont want to spoil it, but you know how in most mainstream shonen its back story to add to the characters. this is almost the complete opposite of that, and its awesome for it. there is one character close to the end that you dont get much of a story for, and you will realy wish you did, but thats really my only gripe i have

my enjoyment... when i picked this up when it only had 1 volume, i thought that was going to be the end, than volume 2 came and i was SO happy, but didn't know what else it could do, well, it showed me. than volume 2 ended and you knew there would be more. and volume 3, i was so scared it would have one of those sad but good endings, it didnt, THIS MANGA ENDS HAPPY. you have any idea HOW RARE it is for a manga to be GREAT beginning to end? this is quite possably be the most perfect manga i ever read.

for me this is an over all 10, must read, classic, but i cant help but feel like there is just something missing. and dont get me wrong there are missing things like when you have to ask why? what happened? and you are never given an explanation, but im not talking about those.

if you have time to kill, and dont mind seeing sex in a manga PICK THIS UP NOW you could do far worse.

^
That shit is the premise of this series on MAL. I think it's a bit misleading (read;retarded), so I will start by making it more accurate,

Daikichi-kun finds a fucking house where he can live, it's free and in good condition. There lives a young, sexy, ghost girl in that house. She wants to fuck Daikichi all day long. Daikichi is far from lucky.

The premise still sounds darker, way dirtier and more dramatic than it actually is. You see; Kana is slice of life series which doesn't have a start nor end, it isn't brilliant at all, not well-written nor well-developed, and certainly not using all of its potentiality. Now you may think "Then what the effin hell makes this Kana so good then?" The answer is way simple; happiness of the characters.

My Lovely Ghost Kana is a series which is about sex, love, some other beautiful things, and sex. All in all the happiness of two people, executed in the most beautiful way. It's sweet, pure (yes) and gives some nice vibes. Might make you horny, really. And jealous. But then you remeber that Daikichi is far from lucky, after all, all he has is a free house and mutual love. (sarcasm if mainstream can't tell)

Now you have probably some sorta picture of this series, and my mental state, but still don't know will you enjoy the series, yes? I will make it simple,

Q; Do I need to be a pervert to like it?
A; You need to understand the difference between sex and porn to be able to see how beautiful the series is. If you don't see any difference, then you will probably think it's shit and will pollute your brains because you are special.. in the retarded way.

Q; Y u no say anything about the art?
A; It's beautiful, very clear, soft and simple, thus very fitting to the series and its atmosphere.

Q; The series doesn't have a start nor end, and it has hardly any story, so what's the point on reading something like that?
A; Because it makes you feel good if you have a soul. Gingers. QQ

Q; I didn't like your review, should I feel bad?
A; Yes.

Suggestions;

Hozuki-san Chi no Aneki
Ai-Ren (from the same author, has sex scenes)

Yokohama Kaidashi Kikou
Otoyomegatari

This manga follows the life of a man after he loses his house and his job, ending up having to live in a run-down house. In fact he feels so sad that he even contemplates on commiting suicide. However, in the new run-down house he is in now, he meets Kana. A girl ghost which changes his outlook on life.

The story is told in first person, mostly from the man's perspective, sometimes from Kana's perspective and sometimes from the perspectives of other character in the story. The story is very simple, sweet and beautiful. Nothing too complicated, no harem, no stupid love triangles, no gender benders, no overly dramatic situations or awkward/wimpy acting on part of the characters. Just how two people live together everyday. Almost each chapter has its own short-story.

Now this manga contains several ecchi scenes but they are gracefully executed (compared to other similar mangas) and this blends in with the romance element fairly well. Nothing like the cheap fan service you would get from your typical ecchi/shounen manga. Also, don't think you'll get the same disgusting stuff that you get from your average hentai.

Characters are pretty decent. Each have a nice personality which remains pretty consistent throughout the manga. Steady character development is present and nothing seems rushed.

The art is good too, a bit different from your average look. I personally liked it, especially how the mangaka drew Kana: who looks very appropriately drawn, fitting her character/personality perfectly.

Overall, I found it to be better than the others in its genre. The slow pace and calm setting was a breath of fresh air from your average "OMG! he did this, she did that" kind of romance manga and this was exactly what I was seeking. The relationship between the main characters is relatively well-developed and leaves you feeling peaceful after each chapter. I liked it so much that I avoided reading the last 2 chapters for 10 months just so that it wouldn't end soon.

Read it if you're looking for something different; calming, slice of life-ish in a romance manga. Definitely a 10 as it simply out-shines its competitors in the sea of romance mangas that we see today.

Note:I save 10s in Story and Overall for truly epic manga and anime which this was not.

Story: In short, beautiful and innocent. It's a lighthearted tail about two people who've lived hard lives but find happiness in love. Despite covering a few very serious and possibly depressing topics it manages to stay lighthearted all the way to the end without making light of the situations. The story is told from the 1st person prospective by the various characters (mainly the protagonist) and covers the day to day life of the couple and the people they interact with. Throughout the whole manga I was expecting the story to get dragged into a more serious possibly tragic plot for the couple to endure (or not endure T.T) but it never came and I still can't tell you weather or not I'm disappointed by that.
~8/10: It ended abruptly and way too soon, while the story is indeed great at the end you are left feeling that a part of the story is missing.

Art: The character designs are slightly on the simple side (especially Kana) but they are well drawn and they really fit the feel of the manga. The backgrounds and scenery are just beautiful, the mangaka put a lot of detail in creating the backgrounds to make an atmosphere that flows with and draws you into a scene (If you are someone who doesn't usually pays attention to the background while reading a manga I suggest you make a special effort for this one). I will say that there is a lot of sex throughout the manga and while it never crosses the hentai(porn) line it does get pretty graphic. That being said, rather than being just fan-service to spice up the manga the sex really shows the affection the couple has for each other. It gives you that feeling of wanting to please your partner and see them happy.
~10/10: Beautiful drawings that really flow with and support the story instead of making up for the lack of one.

Character: This is where the manga shines or at least it had the potential to. Almost every character is built up individually throughout the story and even given their own time to share a bit of their life (I say almost because towards the end one of the character's story begins and end abruptly without any real depth, a sign of the manga being cut short by the publishers in my opinion), but at the same time we never lose sight of the main couple. You are really given the chance to get to know and fall in love with everyone in the manga.
~7/10: Once again the abrupt ending hurts the score. At the end of the manga I felt that there was so much more to say about each and every character (not just the one I mentioned above though that one hurt the score the most) that I ended up feeling that I was missing out on something.

Enjoyment: Highly enjoyable, it's not often that you get to read a manga, an ecchi manga at that, about a truly pure and innocent love. If you are looking for the torturous relationship troubles of shoujou love stories or the haremesque fantasy of shounen love stories then you won't find it here. Not to say that those kind s of stories are bad but I honestly like this kind of love story a lot more. This was really a fun read that ended way too soon.
~9/10: Any manga over 1 volume long that I can read from beginning to end without having to take a break from it goes pretty high on the enjoyment level.

Overall: If you've read my review up till now then you already know what I like and dislike about the manga. In short it's a great story that that just doesn't completely fill it's potential.
~8/10: Even though I've said so much this is still a great read. If you have the time pick this one up.
