Chihiro Furuya possesses a strange obsession for the undead. Most remarkably, he is only romantically interested in female zombies. Due to the recent accidental death of his pet cat Baabu, Chihiro's craze is accentuated, and he decides to brew an elixir of reanimation.

However, Chihiro fails to find the correct combination of ingredients to produce the solution, causing him to give up and opt to bury Baabu instead. But before he can, Chihiro becomes acquainted with the wealthy and alluring Rea Sanka, who encourages him to continue trying. And so, upon mixing the poisonous hydrangea flower with his concoction, Chihiro successfully creates the elixir. Not realizing that he succeeded, Rea attempts to put an end to her miserable and restrained life by drinking the elixir she thought would poison her. But after actually dying in a fatal accident, the elixir shows its effect, and Rea is resurrected as a zombie.

Now liberated from her oppressive life, Rea moves in with Chihiro, who will now have to utilize his knowledge of the undead to care for the adolescent female zombie.

This a manga to be proud of if you own it! Mix of zombies and romance is just an amazing mix that can never be bad. I believe that this is just amazing!

A story of a kid named Chihiro Furuya who loves zombies so much that he would even matty one and his cat Babu, but sadly his cat was killed when he was ran over. In his attempt to bring him back from the dead at an abandoned mall, he meets a girl named Rae Sanka screaming into a well(because she hates her life and over protecting father). When he is discovered by her, he talks to her about his plan. This leads to a friendship and a little bit of romance.

On the night they try to revive Babu, Rae takes a sample of the medicine that would bring Babu back (which is also poisonous) in attempt to kill herself. When Babu does not come back, Chihiro took Rae home. Once she's alone, she drinks the medicine hoping it would kill her, but fails. The following morning, Chihiro wakes that the medicine did work (it just look a long while).During this time, Rae discovers that her dad found out who Chihiro is and cut his you-know-what off. In the shock of this, Rae runs to the mall to warn Chihiro.

When Babu was revived, Chihiro lost Babu and took his childhood friend Ranko to search for Babu, but Ranko gets stuck in a pipe in her attempt to catch Babu. Rae was on a cliff getting to the mall when her dad caught up to her. When he had a hold of her, Babu jumped out of nowhere and Rae's father tried to hit Babu with a stick and miss Babu and nearly hit Rae, but caused her to fall off the cliff and died while Chihiro came at the second to see her die. While everyone was crying, the medicine kicked that Rae had dranked last night and rised as a zombie (but not fully a zombie).

I'm not saying anything else what happens afterwards, but read the manga and watch the anime for more info on the amazing manga/anime called Sankarea

Note: This is my first review and I have no writing experience, but I'm writing this due the lack of recent reviews. All reviews are up to chapter 8 instead and this one is up to 20. Anyway, please review my review by giving me advice.

This manga has all ingredients of a typical Shonen. Ecchi, comedy, action and the drama. The setting is quite awesome though. It's spread out nice in the first two chapters, but like others said: it drags a little afterwards. Up to chapter 8 that is. The setting changes afterward and a new character appears, which spices things up. The background of Rea's (the zombie girl) family uncovers too and explains her dad's behavior. I would give it a 9 if there wasn't that 6 chapter long slow part.

STORY: 8

The Art is great. I can't anything from an artist perspective, but I like the style and the characters are all easily recognizable. The action scenes aren't confusing either. Not like those mangas where you are like: "This looks awesome but I have no clue what's actually happening." Not that there aren't battles in this manga, but still. I like the art and I can't really give arguments due the lack of knowledge. The grade I gave it is just pure from likability.

ART: 9

The characters are a bit plain. We have the lead male who is an zombie-freak, a naive lead girl (the newborn zombie) who was raised by an overprotective dad, and another lead girl who is a childhood friend of the lead male and has crush. The lead male is green, but likes the naive girl, and the two girls are rivals, because they both like the male and both have the feeling they're losing. In other words. The characters are a bit.. Cliche. Also, the whole who likes who thing is a bit draggy. There is character development though. Therefor, I won't give it a plain 6.

CHARACTERS: 7

My enjoyment about this manga is high. There are nice plot twists and it just has that magical thing that keeps you interested. Yes, you get a bit annoyed by some draggy bits and behavior of characters, but I really like the series.

ENJOYMENT: 9

The overall grade is quite high. It's well-drawn, the setting and story are interesting and it overall really entertained me.

I have failed.
So many people have departed from this story with results that they love.
I have not.

I have randomly found this manga, while having had aimed to find something completely random and new to indulge myself with!
Something I'll have no idea about so that it can be a totally genuine experience.
And Sankarea was just that.
I love the way the manga's covers look(that's what ai based my choice on.

I've started reading this, and almost every single thing, every page, I had known what would come in the next.
Everything was so predictable to me.
While reading, I have stopped numerous times simply to laugh a bit at how what I was looking at was something I had expected to happen.
It wasn't laugh really, it was just averting my attention from the pages to the wall of my room with a big grin.

The story is cute, Rea is beautiful in every possible way, but I'm unfortunately blind to truly enjoying the beauty of her and everything else in this story.
I think nothing bad of this story, I have simply failed at enjoying it, and the proof for that is the simple fact that so many others have fully enjoyed the experience of going through this story.
To me it was just a cliche after a cliche.

When I think about it, I think that the reason that this is the outcome I'm left with after the story, is the way that characters are.
Overuse of blushing.
Blushes are nice and all, but in this story, everyone are blushing all the time, not my cup of tea.
The characters are what was the most cliche thing, to me.
I am upset that I've not fully grown to love this story.
I do love it, it's beautiful, and as I say that, I know that that's just something I wish would be the full truth regarding it and me.

Spoiler about the conclusion of the story bellow:
I did however, after finishing the story, wake up during the night, and in the morning, without being able to proceed with my sleep, duo to what this story ends up as.
Rea, that angel of a person, ending up all alone.
All alone.
It's scary, how this story ends. That suffocating feeling of loneliness that is not even yours (how I feel when I think about the end of the story).
If I had gone through this story long before, that ending would've kept me awake so many nights, I'd cry.
The ridiculous thing though, and further making apparent how the author is either immature or the manga is aimed at very young folk, is how that ending without a hint on grimness presented in the manga.
With that ending, in that manga all is still happy and everyone(Rea alone) are still smiling..

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Conclussion:
If this was "packaged" somehow differently, perhaps it would've been just my thing, but this way it was barely anything.
I know though, that if this was my first manga ever, if I had read this back when I was still a kid, I'd have probably fallen in love with everything about this story. Everything.
Perhaps the problem is that I'm "too-grown-up" and thus this story is just too perfect for me..

While I doubt that "Zombie Girls" will ever become a main stream fetish, I have to admit that I was pleasantly surprised with the sweet and off-beat romance of "Sankarea".

At first blush this is a standard "boy meets girl" manga complete with obligatory secret past, childhood friend love rival, missed opportunities and bizarrely obtuse main protagonist - basically all the tropes that you've come to expect. What keeps it fresh however is the major plot hook of Rea's "zombification" and the hinted at "expiration date" of her human consciousness. It may seem like a subtle thing, but sometimes the difference between an average manga and a good one is something as simple as having a plot or a goal to work towards other than just the boy and girl getting together and Sankarea demonstrates that in spades.

That being said, the plot is more silly than serious although there are some very dark parts to it (as expected due to the subject matter) including character deaths and zombie violence. In addition to this the characters themselves are well done and asides from some well-worn tropes, they are mostly enjoyable

Some people may like or dislike the finale for the series - personally, I didn't like it that much, but it does offer more of a conclusion than most serialized mangas seem to give these days

On a technical level, the art was clean and crisp and overall fairly well composed but sometimes it felt like there were issues with "impact shots" and over all panel pacing with dialogue. The characters themselves are mostly well designed, but nothing really special however some of the "visual gags" relating to the zombies do work rather well and had me chuckling in spots.

On the all, I'd say that if you're looking for a "boy meets girl" style manga with a twist that will keep you reading to the end, then Sankarea probably will fit that bill.

Ah, Sankarea, how I so enjoyed spending time with you.

An ecchi with a storyline? Now that is a rare treat. A story of a boy who loves zombies so much that he makes two of his own. However, it's a bit more work than he was expecting.

Please note that this is a review of the MANGA, not the anime; my opinion on the anime is nowhere near as good as the manga. Well, let's get started.

Story: 8/10
The storyline is without a doubt very interesting and a page turner, however, I've seen better. Sometimes the story leaves you wondering what just happened an there are a few minor plot holes, so it is definitely not a masterpiece.

Art: 7/10
In my opinion, the art was perfect. However, by societies standards, it was not. There isn't as much attention to detail as in many other mangas, but if you are a fan of more simple mangas and care more about story than art, then this is definitely great!

Character: 10/10
Each character is unique in their own way, even the cat, Babu! A boy who takes his love of zombies to a different level than others, a grandfather with a mysterious past, a zombie girl who wanted to become a zombie simply becaause she wanted to be normal, and many more. The characters were a home run, in my opinion.

Enjoyment: 10/10
I truly enjoyed this manga from the moment I picked it up. I was simply looking for some ecchi so I could be a little perv ( and trust me, there is a good amount of that ), but I ended up finding what is in my opinion, quite a great manga that will definitely be one of my all time favorites.

Overall: 8/10
If I were to base my opinion only on enjoyment , character, and story alone, this would definitely be a 10/10. However, as I mentioned before, the art is not perfect, and the story does leave you with one or two questions.

Would I recommend this?
That depends. If you're a sucker for romance and ecchi like I am, then I would recommend this. I'm not even the biggest fan of zombies and I was able to enjoy this quite a lot. If you care more about attention to detail and the artwork, and really don't want to see a titty every now and then, then I would not recommend this.

THIS REVIEW CONTAINS SPOILERS

Sometimes, reading a bit of horror is just what you need to spice up your life . There are quite a lot of scary scenes. but to me they are not scary anymore cause I watch way too much horror animes and manga.

I know that a ton of you guys out there are fans of romance manga and let me tell you, I am too:). So if you are one of us, then this manga is for you. I know, I know, I just said that this is a horror manga, but their love is so damm. sweet!!!!

story:10
Come on, after you read this, how could you not give it 10? I you may think that y
the ending sucks cause its not the typical shoujo manga ending when the couple kiss and happy ending. But put yourself in the girl's shoe! If you think about it, it might be the most logical ending. The plot is really well thought out and things happen for a reason, not like the barbie movies where everything happens because of magic( though I like it cause I like beautiful girls.)

art:10
I thought about this for a long time, ( please don't get offended ) and I thought that if you view at it separately, the eyes, the nose, the face shape... they are actually not that beautiful and was really simple. Somehow the artist still manage to make the characters beautiful!! I am definite giving it a ten.

characters:7
I fell like the characters does not have anything special about them. I did mention about everything happens for a reason, and that is right. The characters are like their characteristics exist because someone change them, not because they are born that way so they are pretty much normal people
