Kamisama Hajimemashita review
Just Wow. I have finally caught up to the last chapter and just couldn't resist writing a review. This story was loveable to begin with and the anime was very fun (if too short), but the later volumes have exceeded any of my high expectations as if too say "Hah, you thought that was good?"

STORY: As others have stated the summary and beginning alone has some very standard shoujo elements though the anime version had enough hilarious moments my fiance was able to enjoy it as well. In my late twenties now I can't help expecting and wanting more from a shoujo title. This delivered everything. This story was a treat to begin with, but then it becomes a full blown feast of characters and story plots. There is so much more depths to the characters (antagonists or protagonists), and things that seem like fun plots devices in the beginning or random hints become extremely important later on.

ART: I was disappointed by some poor scans in the beginning, but as this has improved I can truly appreciate how the art style has bloomed. As an artist I truly appreciate the flow of the art and some amazing scenes. Especially in later chapters I have found myself helplessly staring and admiring a page or even a single panel.

CHARACTERS:
-The characters may seem predictable at first, but they are all quite three dimensional. Nanami is a much stronger character than she looks. Despite being very optimistic and cheerful, she had a very lonely pass where she was used to being self reliant. Though her feelings for Tomoe may at first seem Juvenile, her honesty, devotion, and the lengths she would go for him rise into a truly great love story. Can a human and a youkai's love for each other work? This question is asked a lot.

-Tomoe can be volatile, strict, and demanding but all his personality quirks and devotion make him endearing. There's usually a reason for his temper and he's quite gentle and protective (if he's not gleefully threatening to turn an enemy into sashimi and cook them for namami). I admit I had fangirl moments when you see his past fox demon self hundreds of years ago. Gone is the protective familiar and enter in a dangerous and notorious youkai. Learning more about the mystery of his past, who he was, how he became who he is in present adds so many layers to his character and the story.

- Secondary characters also shine in this manga. Mizuki the snake familiar is quite endearing in his own way and his past is both happy and sad. The Tengu Kurama seems like he is going to be the stereotypical love rival at first but he really breaks that mold and becomes a great character to have a round. Interactions between Mizuki, Kurama, and Tomoe are usually hilarious. Other characters that are introduced never completely disappear either, and sometimes even come back for a more surprising and deeper plot. Every single character in this series interests me, and there is no real black and white. Even the ones who seem most evil and you are prepared to hate... you just can't. And finally Mikagi, the land God who started this all is such a mysterious and great character. He seems outright silly in the beginning when he meets Nanami and randomly makes her the land God in his stead but there are reasons for everything.

ENJOYMENT: You would be blind not to see how much I have enjoy this series by now, but I will say it again. This is such a perfect blend of humor, romance, intrigue, fantasy, and character development. I would say it feels something close to if you threw Fruits Basket and Inuyasha in together, but is still quite original by itself.

Kamisama Hajimemashita review
I'm so angry at myself for starting this manga while it's still ongoing. I initially enjoyed the anime adaptation, and figured I'd finish off the story with the manga. I'm kicking myself so hard for that, but, at the same time, I feel like there'd be something important missing in my life if I hadn't read it. It's not often I get that attached to a story.

>Story-----------10

It had a very fast-paced beginning, which initially turned me off. I thought everything was being put out there far too quickly for such a long series, but boy was I wrong. Like any good series, it just got better and better the more I read. After watching the anime, I thought it would just be a straight-up fluffly love story, but it turned out to be a lot more complex than I thought. In my view, though there is a strong romantic element, the story is really more about companionship than romance specifically. Loneliness and trust are big themes that pop up repeatedly throughout the series.

>Art--------------10

Lovely. Very shoujo-y. Lots of beautiful scenery, characters that are clearly distinguished from each other (I often have a hard time telling male characters apart), and the mangaka manages to set exactly the right mood for every scene.

>Characters----10

The character development is definitely the best part of Kamisama Hajimemashita. Unlike a lot of manga, you're not fully introduced to the characters right away. Their stories--both their pasts and current storylines--unfold at a very nice pace that leaves you falling just a little bit more in love with them every time they appear. Even the minor characters have a lot of charm and very distinct personalities that are easy to fall in love with.

>Enjoyment----10

10/10, will continue to follow the series and probably re-read many times over once it's complete.

Kamisama Hajimemashita review
I could spend HOURS talking about this manga, and I really do mean hours. This is by far one of my favorites and I'm actually gonna keep this short simply to get my point across:
If you're wondering whether or not to read Kamisama Hajimemashita, read it.
I guess it might not be for everyone but this is not your typical shoujo manga. The main character, Nanami, is a strong, independant female role and although she seems weak and incapable at first, she continues to push on throughout the entirety of the manga. Although this world she is introduced to is new and confusing, she makes an effort to understand everyone and help even if she is not always totally prepared to do so. Over the course of the story, you can see real development in her character and her abilities as her knowledge of this new realm expands.
Tomoe, Nanami's familiar is another story entirely but in the end I also came to love him too. You can genuinely see Nanami's effect on him as he grows and changes by her side.
The other characters are equally as lovable and they all have their own stories to tell. You will fall in love with them and cry with them.
Finally the story in general is just fantastic. You will enter the world of Gods and Yokai and still be reminded of the struggles of the human world and the overall inevitable.
Finishing the last chapter today, I feel like I can truly walk away having learned something.
A warning to those of you who are like me and become committed to the manga but also, unfortunately, can only speak/read english, translations for this manga are slow as of now but there are other ways to find the later installments if you are persistent ;)
I sincerely hope you all read it and wish you the best of luck!

Kamisama Hajimemashita review
First of all, I don't understand why this manga is so underrated. I've read several reviews for this manga and most of them were saying that "something is lacking" and "could've been better". They even compared it to other shoujo mangas that have similar plots, and NONE of them were even as good! The mangas that those reviewers suggested were the predictable and fast-paced mushy lovey-dovey stories. It was irritating to the extent that I stopped reading after 4 chapters.

The story line may seem like "psh-puhleas" kinda thing, but it's not. Although the story isn't very original (since there are other mangas with story lines of protagonist girls becoming a deity), the important thing about this manga is that the mangaka doesn't rush the 'romance', it's pure genius in my opinion, 'cause it's got me thinking if Tamaome really likes Nanami, because their relationship is 'Master and Servant'. It's really hard to understand the feelings of the characters (except for nanami) because they all seem attached to Nanami because of her compassion as a master, not as a girl or as a woman. That is the genius in this manga--the readers get sucked in with the idea that the followers don't 'love' or 'like' her, they respect and want to protect her, because they love her as a 'master'.

That's the illusion the mangaka is creating, but slowly, we realize the feelings of the characters in a BELIEVABLE way. Like for example, in a usual shoujo mangas, the most predictable thing a protagonisits would say is "I don't know if i love her--is this love---do I really like him---yadayada" , but in kamisama, none of the characters themselves realize their feelings. Even the readers (me) would think that their relationship is confusing.

For me the good points of this manga (including the art and etc.), is that the 'romance' is quite unpredictable that it kept me up late ate night and I couldn't sleep. And you will surely look forward to seeing Nanami grow as a god(ess).

story-10
art-9
character-10
enjoyment-10
overall-10

***One thing that bothers me is that the art gets weird sometimes, but that's just me.

Kamisama Hajimemashita review
This review is meant for people who want to get into this manga and need a lead or are insecure about it because of rumors. Also this is a spoiler-free review that will help the new ones but offer depth to the ones who already read it since the writing implies stuff that can be interpreted.

Kamisama Hajimemashita, oh man there are so many things to say about this. Do you ever feel that you need a change in your life? We all know by now that anime and manga are a really good way to escape reality and enjoy yourself (temporarily unfortunately).

Why did I say that? Well, Kamisama Hajimemashita takes that concept literally and presents us a girl who becomes homeless after her dad left home because of debt collectors and ends up in a temple where she can forget her problems temporarily and enjoy the fantasy of being free and independent. A rarity in modern days if you ask me.

Compared to the typical fantasy setting, here we are presented with a set of responsibilities that Manami the main girl has to do in order to maintain her status and overall happiness in that holy temple. The first part presents the new world revolving around the temple and the people/gods which live around it or even in other dimensions. An important lesson that we all know but not usually apply is that sometimes you have to be vulnerable and take a risk helping someone for free not expecting anything in return besides their friendship and trust. Our main protagonist its applying this concept every time she can and this helps her develop as a character and getting to know the enviroment that the fantasy world of the temple offers in the same time. Not to mention that in life you do not succeed every time and this is taken into consideration even here.

What I said above is what the first half is striving for and in my opinion it has done an exceptional job doing. The second half has the same adventures sometimes even befriending people so much to the point of "adopting" them as a familiar. Not going to go in the detail to what a familiar is just because when I read reviews myself I like to have explained the reasons why the plot is good not the plot itself. Also in the second part we catch some glimpses or romance and sexual tension between some characters and as we go closer to the end the manga becomes a full fledged romance and it is executed as amazing as the adventuring fantasy part assuming you read until then.

Now to adress some negative opinions and prove them wrong in order to convince you that they are unfounded. Some say the manga becomes a reverse harem at some point and that is completely wrong because probably this guys can't see the difference between a close friendship and a romantically inducing one. Still here i would like to add that teasing isn't meant to be taken seriously.

About the people who complain about furries and just label anyone watching this as a furry no questions asked. Most of the character designs are inspired from japanese mythology and adapted to catch the eye of the people in this era.

Why is this anime liked mostly by girls? Is it worth watching if i am a guy? The response here is subjective but i would say yes. The thing is that the female lead's personality is fairly simple with some special qualities that are still human like kindness and sensibility which makes female readers relate easier to her. On the other hand the male lead is what girls would imagine to be the dream personality of a possible male partner so it is basically like this manga nailed most of the male traits to suit female readers. I personally find it to be adorable how girls think these days.

Now as a note. I never review anything that is subjective such as paneling drawing quality or pacing. So you have to figure for yourself if this is for you or not. With all this being said I hope I managed to at least make you interested in checking this manga out and if not there is always something that will suit your taste so thanks for reading.

Kamisama Hajimemashita review
This is my first review here so sorry for possibly sounding incoherent or something.

I gotta tell you, I don't really like shoujo manga and animes. I tried, but I found them too clichéd (gah, hate clichés) and mushy and I usually hate the main female characters with such a passion I can't continue with the story. What is up with the annoying love triangles too? Not to mention the art style tends to be so... cheesy or just... weird. Hope this doesn't offend anyone, they're just not to my taste.

Anyway, I started reading this because my sister recommended it. I was skeptical, cuz of the reasons I listed above. But once I started, boy I fell in love with this.

What makes KH so amazing is that it keeps all the GOOD elements of a typical shoujo manga but doesn't overdo them, and also has other amazing things added to it. I don't get why this is so underrated: this is obviously a masterpiece.

Story (10/10):
None of the many synopsis I read for this do justice. At the beginning, I thought this was just a light hearted story consisting of several funny and heart warming arcs. And I loved this for that. Even though there were some unoriginal plot elements, the mangaka just added this unique something to them that kept me from being bothered by that.

As the story developed I realized that in fact, most arcs and just simple revelations within them all were put there foreshadowing so many things for the bigger plot/arc that is shown later on in the manga. It becomes slightly more serious, but just very slightly. It's just amazing how the mangaka wove all those little plot elements together.

The romance is slow, but not frustrating in a bad way or dragging. There's always a chemistry between the two MCs and the romance of other characters are well developed and cute as well.

All of the subplots are fun to read and heart warming as well, I was never bored reading any of them.

Art (10/10):
I don't know for others, but I personally really love this art style. It doesn't have characters drawn so unrealistically beautiful, but they definitely don't look ugly. I'm not sure what you call them exactly, but the art when showing a very funny situation is very well drawn too. I laugh every time at them. Last but not least, the character designs are really well done.

Additionally, the art is always consistent throughout the chapters, if not improved subtly but greatly.

Characters (9/10):
I agree that on the surface the characters seem pretty bland, but I promise they're not. Yup, there is a cheery high school girl who stumbles upon a fantasy world and gains powers, she meets a yokai boy, everybody comes to like her, etc. The yokai boy isn't very friendly, is powerful. But seriously, they're not the usual type of characters in any manga. I actually like Nanami a lot (she's the female MC), which is a miracle for me really.

Nanami IS weak, she's just a high school girl after all. But she knows this and tries hard at all times to be independent, and though she doesn't always succeed, readers can come to like her for how down to earth, strong, caring and brave she is. Also, she's not very intelligent, no, but she's not ignorant. She's not a little kid.

All the characters in KH are all lovable, and even the are antagonists. There's only a very thin line between good and evil, which I love. Everyone's feelings seem real, and they're very well developed.

Enjoyment (10/10):
Full points, of course. This is one of my favorite mangas or possibly my favorite out of all, and I re-read this many times. It has a slice of life feeling (which I usually find boring... I know, I know, I'm just a very picky reader) but it's not boring or anything thanks to the fantasy elements and quirky characters.

So, I give an overall score of 10/10. What is there not to like of KH? None, really.

Kamisama Hajimemashita review
Kamisama Hajimemashita is one of the best newer shoujo manga out there. It presents a unique plot, romance handled the right way, and good characters who are more than their first impression. It is a short, yet fun and endearing read that will leave you feeling happy.

Story- 9
“Nanami, a young girl whose father skips town due to his debts is led to a shrine and is crowned as the goddess there. However she has to deal with a load of new responsibilities and a shrine familiar, Tomoe who doesn’t accept her immediately.”

The story of Kamisama Hajimemashita is interesting and unique. It deals with how Nanami deals with her new status as a God of Matchmaking, and her relationship with her shrine familiar, Tomoe, and how she works to earn his respect and trust. It consists of lighthearted comedy and romance, which progresses slowly and well. It also deals with situations from the past and present, and when you read the story, you’ll realise that nothing is as straightforward as it seems.

Art- 6

I’m not an art critic, so unless terrible, I don’t usually let art affect my opinion about a manga. Kamisama Hajimemashita’s art starts off a bit rough and stiff, but the mangaka improves a lot over the course of eight years.

Characters- 8

The characters of Kamisama Hajimemashita are great. All of them aren’t as simple as they look, and when you look into their past, you’ll see that they’ve actually faced a lot and struggled to be the way they are now. None of them are one-dimensional and that’s a very good thing.

The female protagonist, Momozono Nanami is a really good character. Having been poor all her life, she is not spoiled and independent. She may be incompetent as a god(she’s a normal human being) but she is persistent and always finds a way even in tough situations.

Tomoe, Nanami’s shrine familiar is somewhat a Male tsundere character. He is mean, and brash, however changes greatly when he meets Nanami. He’s also that one ideal guy who’s somehow good at everything and is loved by all the girls. However, there’s a lot more to him than what meets the eye, and it has to do with his past.

The other characters include- Mizuki, Nanami’s second familiar from another shrine, I always felt like he deserved better and was neglected throughout and Kurama, a tengu who lives in the human world, who serves as comic relief.

Enjoyment-10
I personally enjoyed this manga a lot, it would be better to read it slowly since it takes place over the course of 2-3 years.

Kamisama Hajimemashita review
WARNING: MAY HAVE SPOILERS AHEAD

Ahhh...a shoujo manga. When one hears the shoujo genre attached to something, some or most may cringe, and it is definitely understandable.

The shoujo genre has become surrounded with tropes and stereotypes for more than a decade now. First encounters have become formulaic, and the romance and character developments have become predictable. But despite the enveloping ideas that surround what is usually (and somehow supposedly) shoujo, there is always a work that swims out of the cliche ocean and climbs up the excellence ship.

Kamisama Hajimemashita is one of those shoujo manga that at face value resembles its predecessors. Girl meets hot guy? Check. Hot guy has a rather blatant personality? Check. Girl is cheerful? Check. The shoujo genre checklist can go on, but for 14 volumes now, Kamisama Hajimemashita has proven that it transcends the limitations and expectations the shoujo genre has attached to its name.

How so? Below are the following reasons.

1.) ART
The art is unique. It isn't sloppy, nor intolerable. What makes the art shine is the fleshing out of each character's expression. Suzuki Julietta has a very good hand at that. Reading up to 14 volumes, one will notice how the art becomes more ornate, more vibrant, and more fine. The texture of the backgrounds, the shadows, the shadings...Everything is becoming refined. So many manga rarely retains consistency in the art nor improve as they move along, but Kamisama Hajimemashita becomes more beautiful to read than ever.

2.) CHARACTERS
One may argue that the characters are typical. Tomoe is the same as those bitchy hot guys who are very reliable. Nanami is the same determined maiden who will obviously get heartbroken and chase the guy.

So what more can be expected from these seemingly unoriginal characters??

Well, it's because they do not have a uni-dimensional personality. For instance, Tomoe may be cold, but he can be gentle. When he's worried, he is honest about it. Some may say that he's a tsundere, but that trope does not govern who he is. Nanami, on the other hand, may be seen as a damsel in distress, but she is hardly in distress. She falters realistically, but she stands up with determination and tries to accomplish something in order not to rely on others, specifically Tomoe. As these two main leads grow, their personalities also become pronounced, and different sides of them show. Nanami can be manipulative, and Tomoe can be compromising. Nanami can take care of herself, and Tomoe learns to trust Nanami.

The development does not end between the two main characters. It is also important to note that the side characters in this manga have their important roles and growths with interactions with the main characters. Villains are seen in different lights, and there is nothing more complex than the thinning of who's good and bad. In the end, the shoujo tropes that engulf the characters are merely the tip of the iceberg, a counter top, a topsoil to their being. As the story digs deeper, as adventures become parts of the past, the characters grow on you, and such earned concern becomes a gear to curiosity about how everything, how everyone will turn out in the end.

3.) STORY
Just like the characters, the story has a general aspect that resembles so many shoujo manga, but as aforementioned, something deeper lies underneath the pretentious "simple" story arcs. I myself have come to observe hints left unanswered in every arc, and where the manga is right now (past 14th volume in serialization), every hint has turned out to be a thread in an almighty spider's web of a well-thought-out plot Suzuki Julietta has woven from the start. The answers are still in the process of streaming out the well of wisdom, but the twists are showing, and, boy, does it contend to the speculated predictability I and the other readers might have conceived from the first chapter.

4.) ENJOYMENT
The humor in this manga is timed very well. It does not grow old. Should I say more?
