Vampire Knight review
Vampire Knight was the second manga I ever read. At that point I wasn't really familiar with the whole Shoujo genre, so I didn't realize that most of the other Shoujo stuff is boring love story crap. Still, for a shoujo, Vampire Knight was a lot better.

STORY: 5
The story starts off with the cool idea of vampires and humans coexisting, and the first two or three books aren't bad. Sorry, this spoiler is unavoidable but I have to say that from the time Yuki gets her memories back and onward, the manga sucks so badly I wondered why I was even reading it. As of the plot twists and such, they are so predictable that I could just stamp a "thank you for that, captain obvious" sticker half way through the first book, not even, more like one third into it. That was let down, but at least it's better than Twilight, which has no storyline at all except for an angsty teenager and her vampire boyfriend (hey, I swear I've heard this somewhere before). :P Sorry for that, I really dislike Twilight. Anyway, to reiterate, the father you read in, the more demented and hard to follow the plot becomes. Books eight through thirteen were full of so much pointless fluff that it could have been condensed into one book.

ART: 6
Like all shoujo mangas, guys tend to look like girls, and the eyes are way to huge. Not just like regular manga big, I mean flipping ENORMOUS. Also, apparently the vampires' eyes glow red when they desire blood. the artist didn't manage to get that point across at all. The author had to point it out before I actually noticed it. I like the creativity for the uniforms though. That was basically the only thing I was impressed with. The backgrounds are good when there are any, and though I have said I don't really pay attention to backgrounds, I have felt more confused about where characters are in Vampire Knight than in basically every other manga that I've read. To me, all shoujo art looks the same, so there isn't really any uniqueness to it.

CHARACTERS: 4
Zero is the tortured teen with the bad past. Haven't we all heard this before? "Yuki I wanted you to stay away from me because I didn't want to hurt you." It's nothing new. Isn't that like every single Vampire romance thing out now? The guy is mysterious and emo, and the girl is the ray of light for his salvation, but he had it ripped away from him because she's torn between two loves, and of course she's only considered her childhood friend and friend. This isn't the mild, appealing cliché that's mixed with new ideas, it's basically a lack of creativity. The only one who has any kind of depth is...actually wait, I can't think of anyone. As you've probably noticed, this review contains 100x more bias than all my other ones. Oops, but I can't help venting because Vampire Knight showed at least some promise, but now it's just assing around. Disappointment. D:

ENJOYMENT: 5
Vampire Knight really let me down, and I probably would have been better off not reading it. It would have spared me and extra week of my life I could have used to do other things, but I was basically only reading it because I thought Zero was kind of cool, and then the author turns around and goes LOL nope! DX He's an emo! Anyway, it didn't hold my attention.

OVERALL: 5
It is far from the best manga I've read, but, if you love the tortured vampire and his love who doesn't love him back type shit, then trust me, you will drool over Vampire Knight.

Vampire Knight review
The drawings are gorgeous, that's a given. It's a lot better than those silly flowery scenes in typical shoujo manga. I first started reading Vampire Knight yesterday, and it was really interesting enough for me to pull through all of the fifty-nine chapters (as of this writing), so I can not deny its appeal. However, there are some points that I feel need significant improvements.

For me, Vampire Knight is a guilty read. Why? Certainly not because of Twilight (okay, maybe so). But it's because of the tension in this manga. For me, the character interactions between all characters were appealing, even though their actual development was lacking in a way. For instance, the love triangle between Yuuki, Zero, and Kaname. I can see how that would appeal to the fans, but there are other undertones such as boy love and incest. There's enough subtext that could appeal to any type of love.

The worst part about Vampire Knight, even though I enjoyed the beginning, was Yuuki herself. Initially, she can be described as a cheery person, a bit idealistic and pacifistic like her "father" but she really means her best. In the beginning, the story starts out simple and nice: Yuuki and Zero are assigned extremely important jobs as the "guardians" to prevent the truth of vampires at Night Class from being revealed to the Day Class. However, as the story progresses, Yuuki descends into darkness and loses her personality. This bothered me a lot, and I'm sure it also bothered other fans as well. It seemed like Yuuki lost her personality that had made her in the beginning.

Come to think of it, there is not a wide variety of personalities in this manga. I hope the mangaka can remedy this. Her manga's tone is getting darker, which is appropriate for a vampire manga even though it can make some characters annoying to the readers. All have a dark past, but then again, they're involved with or are vampires. I like Hanabusa, and I really appreciated the fact that the mangaka gave further consideration to other vampires besides Kaname later on in the manga.

The plot is decent, though I definitely was a bit confused about Rido and Shizuka at first (I had to read Wikipedia to make sure). It's more about power struggles and romance conflict. Arcs are not as obvious, which can be pleasing, because sometimes arcs give you expectations for the next and follow the simple formula: sudden conflict arises! characters realize! characters fight! conflict ends! all is well! But they're there.

I felt that the time skip was needed but alas, it did not show any character development, except for maybe Yori. Yori seems to be a device needed to advance the plot, but I would rather think of her as a friend who genuinely cares for Yuuki. Even if this means putting herself at risk of danger.

I'm probably ranting a bit, so might as well wrap this up. Read Vampire Knight if you're looking for a romance to fantasize about and if you're interested in vampires in general. Also read it if you want to know what is the heck that makes it so popular. It's definitely a good manga to appeal to the romance fans, even guilty pleasure ones, but for those who are highly critical of characters and dark atmospheres, this would not be it. Especially Yuuki at the point in time when her past is revealed. So don't expect the manga to be light-hearted and fluffy; it's actually angst (for Yuuki).

Vampire Knight review
Matsuri Hino is a great artist, but unfortunately the story of ‘Vampire Knight’ is sorely lacking when it comes to story elements.

The main three of the story are completely unequal when it comes to development:
Hino writes such a complete and compelling story for one male character, and get fans on his side, only to have things go to h*** in a handbasket for him.
The other male character is left completely in shadow, yet is ultimately the one who makes *All* of the pivotal plot decisions. Readers don’t know about his personality during any of these decisions, though, and this leaves only his looks to make him a likeable character. This lack of development is not the yummy “Ohhh ♥ , who is that?” kind, but rather it comes off as a “Ohhh, he’s hot... Wait, what did he just do?! Who does he think he is?! @$%#!”

It is not ‘tragic,’ it is overdone.

Vampire Knight would be a tragedy if readers could identify with the leading lady, Yuuki, which was impossible from the very beginning. It is a fundamental part of the shojo genre to have a main female character that is likeable. Yuuki is just a dip from the beginning, and after the events/choices of chapters 40+ unfolded, fans dropped the manga. Calling Yuuki, the *Main Female Character* of the manga, whom you are supposed to be kindred to, "ruined," "unworthy," and "dirty."

Other minor characters have valiant attempts at background stories, but these are ultimately left undeveloped or quickly killed-off (literally, killed) before details can be explained.
Readers are left frustrated and unsatisfied.

Good manga gone wrong.

Vampire Knight review
To be completely honest, I never finished this manga.
There are plenty of reasons that one should read it, yet the drawbacks to this series, in my opinion, outweigh the good.

ARTWORK
The artwork was simply wonderful, some of the best I've seen. Everything is done in careful detail, and it's clear that a lot of time and effort went into crafting every scene. If only just for the beautiful drawings, I feel that this manga should be, at the very least, skimmed through. I did have issues differentiating some minor characters, as their depictions were very similar, but that doesn't take away from the fact that they were all done extremely well.

CHARACTERS
The characters are charming and funny, though most weren't as fully developed as I would have liked. However, as the storyline progressives, characters begin to become muddled and confusing. Still, they were at least explained well enough and don't all have the same dull backgrounds.

STORY
And here's where my opinion took a nosedive. In the beginning, I was interested in the plot, already choosing my favorite characters and trying to figure out what was happening. However, as twists began to appear, I found myself more and more distanced from the plot. For one thing, some of the twists made questionable character backgrounds and relationships, and I found myself less and less willing to continue reading something. It got to the point where I no longer knew what was going one, and I finally made the decision to drop the series, something I've never done before.

OVERALL
I wanted to like the series, I really did, because it was so nice to look at and I like the characters. However, the storyline really killed it for me, and eventually forced me to drop the series entirely. So it wouldn't be my preferred read, nor would I waste my time trying to convince someone else to read it. However, I know that many would enjoy it, and as a result, I feel that if one has downtime, they should at least sample it, because they may find it much more enjoyable than I did.

Vampire Knight review
*CONTAINS SPOILERS*

What really sucks about this manga, is how great it is at the start. Then the further you read you get more and more dissappointed. Yuuki was my favourite character at the start, and I even loved how they tried to make her seem more mature and sort of "distant" after her awakening. However, there is absolutely no logic behind her 180 personality change. She herself even blames it on her other personality "the other Yuuki" to be the real Yuuki before her vampire side were locked up, but even this isn't a logical explanation. She was a child when her mom locked up her vampire side, and in the flashbacks of her childhood we still see the Yuuki we fell in love with at the start. In the beginning most of us probably ships Yuuki and Kaname, but as the story progress it makes it perfectly clear that Yuuki can't destinguish the feeling of "love" and "obligation". She never really LOVED Kaname, she felt obligated to stay with him because he saved her life, because he told her that they were meant to be together because of their family's history, and because she pitied him. The one she really loved all along was Zero and even when she realises this, she pushes him away in favor for her feeling of obligation to Kaname. This is pretty obvious because as Kaname mentioned himself "she never smiled from her heart" when she was with him, and it was from the moment he woke her up and she realised that she finally got to spend the eternity with him that she started acting gloomy, never laughed, and started longing for Zero.

What's even more annoying is how the whole second part of the story doesn't seem as a continuation of the first one, it seems more like the mangaka had a change of heart and wrote a whole different manga. In the first part we see Kaname wanting to protect Yuuki, we learn the reason to why and during this whole time they both state that they want to live an eternity together. HOWEVER, during the second part it seems like Kaname has gone into depression, had a change of heart and wants to commit suicide in stead. I get that he never intended to unlock Yuuki's vampire side, so she could stay a human while he sacrificed himself to make stronger anti vampire weapons, but for Gods sake stick to your original plan then and don't doom the one person you love to an eternity alone for your own selfishness. He didn't even have a slight change of heart when he witnessed how heartbroken she was the moment she found out what he intended to do, nor by how much she begged for him to not do it. If there's something I can't stand about a story, it's when you spend volume after volume reading about someones love for eachother and when they can finally be together, one of them starts pushing the other away for their own selfishness.

Now the ending was just terrible, with a lot of unanswered questions. They found a medicine to make vampires turn to humans, but why on earth would you leave your vampire children, in favor to awake and give mortality to a person who has never met them before? What if their children didn't want mortality? What happenes to the vampires now since their daughter Ai is the only remaining pureblood of the Kuran family? And purebloods are the only ones who can turn a human to a vampire? What was the point of Kaname's pureblood killing spree, when (from my understanding) the very first purebloods to exist all had human parents? Wouldn't they be able to continue spawning from mortal parents?

Story 4/10: As much as I wanted to give the story a higher rating, I just couldn't bare to do it. I LOVED the first part of the story, but the second part annoyed me to the core.

Art 8/10: The art was beautiful and is probably one of the main reasons as to why I even bothered to finish the manga.

Character 4/10: The character development sucked just as much as the development between everyones relationships. The only character I really loved was Sayori, and I would honestly prefer this manga if she was the heroine. When we're first introduced to her she seems like Yuukis strict yet close classmate, and during the story you see how much she cherishes her going as far as secretly attending a ball filled with bloodthirsty vampires to assure that her friend is safe. Kaname seems like every girls dream guy during the first part of the story. Someone who cherishes and goes to great lengths to protect his one true love, cool, handsome and yet so gentle. However, during the second part he gets a huge personality change and decides to make his one true love hate him so he can commit suicide. Zero is just...Zero. I was really dissappointed that his character didn't really develope. He stays the same vampire/selfhating "sidecharacter" we met at the start of the story. Not even his love for Yuuki grows, in fact it actually decreases after he learns about her background and discovers that she's in fact a vampire. As the story progress from here on, it grows back to the same stage it was before he learnt the truth, only now he actually confesses it. The other characters are just kinda there, you don't really get much insight in their history, personality, goals or even relations to other characters.

Enjoyment 5/10: I enjoyed the manga at the beginning, but like I've mentioned countless of times by now, it get's really shitty at the end. I would't advise people not to read it, cuz people might have a different opinion than me, but for the art and the first part of the story it's definitely worth it. However, I'm starting to think that the second part of the manga was the reason to why there was never a season 3 of the anime, so you might be better off just watching that.

Sorry about any typos that might occure!

Vampire Knight review
Blood.. they Say it is genetic memory of generations of our ancestors living a century ago. The source of life, energy, something without which it is impossible to do, our most precious treasure. Maybe that is why so many stories about vampires, creatures, seeking to Rob us of our treasure, and along with life. Their image is exploited mercilessly, and for a long time. The inhabitants of the night, brought before us in the pages of books and in the movies, in a completely different way, ruthless monsters, beasts in human form, a charming brutal and terrifyingly beautiful creatures, their lifestyle so attractive that few can resist and not to resist the charm of those eyes, but if you get caught, you will be gone.. So what is the magnetism of vampires? In the danger they pose that stirs the blood? In the trail they left behind centuries that makes you feel like a grain of sand? Or in the halo of sadness, the infinite sadness that surrounds them, radiates from them, regardless of the image. Whether it's a crazed monster, overtaking the victim, or a beautiful creature, obediently waiting, when the victim herself will come to him. The essence is the same. Thirst. Blood. Sin. Sadness.

How much should last the life, that would not get bored and not go crazy? And what should it be? I think the most important thing is not to be alone. People are afraid of loneliness, but did in his short life, we can fully understand the meaning of this word? To be alone forever. that's the worst punishment you can imagine. If you look closely, the printing of endless loneliness and sadness, you can see all of the familiar book and cinematic images of vampires, and Hino Matsuri tried to reveal this feature to the fullest. Regardless of mucking about in the foreground characters, with their joys and sorrows, throughout the narrative, we reveal the essence, the very nature of vampires. Now, when the play is over, tears have been shed, laughter has died down, leaves an aftertaste. Drawn characters played their roles not for the fact that we deepen in the analysis of their actions, and to illustrate, and show us in volume and color, the tragedy of their lives, they are forced to accept and bear this grief every day.

If you look at the manga "vampire Knight", as a drama and not a "love story for three", we can safely put the highest score! I hope you, future readers will be able to see her in something more beautiful than Shoujo, and as I soak up the fascinating atmosphere of this manga.

Vampire Knight review
I've read up to the current chapter and have decided to review the series.

Story: 6/10
In the beginning, it was quite easy to understand. It wasn't complicated. It was just a simple beginning. Then, after the death of one of the antagonists, it slowly grew more complicated. There were a lot of twists and a lot of scenarios that did not make a lot of sense. A majority of the aspects slowly meld together. At the beginning, it was interesting, but, 66 chapters later, it's dull. It feels dragged on. If it wasn't so dull and repetative, it would probably still be interesting. Sadly, it has lost almost all of its interesting aspects.

Art: 9/10
The character designs are absolutely gorgeous. I adore how the hair is so detailed because not many people seem like they spend a lot of time just on the hair. A few of the hair designs are quite similiar. The only character who's drawn quite different than the rest is Kaien Cross, the Headmaster. In all the other characters, you can see bits and pieces of someone else who is NOT related to them in them. On the upside, the character designs do fit the character's personality. In the beginning, the eyes were quite detailed, but, now Matsuri does not give certain characters eyes at times. For quite a few of the later chapters, Aido's eyes were never finished or he just didn't have them. The average person won't notice that, but my friend did and she told me so I looked at the chapter again and agreed with her.

Character: 6/10
At the beginning, all the characters had some sort of development a majority of the time they appeared. Less than 30 chapters in, only the main trio were getting developed. Now it seems like its' just Yuki and Kaname who are getting developed (Yuki more so than Kaname). In all honesty, I am getting quite tired of Yuki and Kaname becoming more developed. I think that Matusri should develop another character for awhile or at least stop focusing on those two for at least one or two chapters. The other characters seem pretty undeveloped now-a-days.

Since this is a shojo and generall shojos have main female characters you can relate to, this is one where it is NOT easy to relate to Yuki and her situation. I don't believe anyone's forgotten everything since before the age of five nor has everyone been in a love triangle. It's almost impossible to relate to Yuki. Honestly, it is easier to relate to secondary character Ruka's situation. She loves someone who doesn't love her. That's pretty relatable since the average girl has been in that situation before.

Dialogue: 5/10
The dialogue is really cheesy at times and only parts of it are interesting. The characters sometimes repeat things they've said earlier in the manga or on a previous page of a chapter. Sometimes the dialogue is hard to follow. At times, they say things that are confusing. During those lines, you have to re-read them at least once for them to make sense. Other times, they say something that contradicts what they said earlier and/or their personality.

Enjoyment: 5/10
It was quite enjoyable until the main villain's death in the school arc, which is when I believe it should've ended, then it slowly got dull.

Average: 6/10

If you do plan on dealing with Vampire Knight, I suggest you watch the anime adaptations, Vampire Knight and Vampire Knight Guilty. The anime is far less confusing and is easier to deal with. If you choose to watch the anime, I suggest you stick with the english subtitles since the dub is not the greatest.

Vampire Knight review
I am thinking in how to start this review because I really feel the need of writing one for those who plans to read this manga. I say is that don't let reviews influence your reading.

At first I really like the anime version of Vampire Knight. But then since I'm looking for something good to read that I decided to read the manga.
The first volumes were of course the same with the anime and so I read other reviews to see if the manga is worth finishing. Based on the reviews I started doubting because yeah as the manga goes on, it gets tiring that there are a lot to read and are starting to get too complicated. But since I can't bring myself to stop halfway, I've decided to finish it and so I did. And it was totally worth my time.

Story - 7
The story was great. It has twists and turns. To the point that sometimes it gets too complicated. But all the mysteries and questions will be answered at the very last chapter.

Character - 8
The characters have their own significance and parts. Each one have their own stories that develops eventually.

Art - 9
The art is really nice. VK is well drawn so yeah I like the art.

Enjoyment - 7
The manga is enjoyable despite it being long. Take note, this manga will really make you feel tired or sleepy because there's lot to read. But its gotta be worth it. No worries.

Overall - 8
Overall is don't start and read this if you're planning to stop halfway. Read until the end. Don't let the first happenings make you judge VK because the ending resolutions will shock you.

Well this review is based in my opinion.

Vampire Knight review
I picked up Vampire Knight believing that it might be an interesting vampire story and I like seeing the different takes on an otherwise old subject.

I will start off with the negative simply because I feel as though this must be said, or expressed:

What it boils down to is that Vampire Knight is a highly, highly confusing manga. In the beginning, as many people have experienced, Vampire Knight was rather simple in terms of plot and scenarios. As time went on, however, questions were being answered but - in the process - more questions were being asked. However, as time went on the facts and situations started to become more confusing, more jumbled and less organized.

The further into the manga I went the less I started to understand - it got to the point where I actually needed to look up the volume summaries after I read them, simply to understand what it was that I had just read.

It is very hard to understand who is speaking and to whom, and where they are, and what is going on. I found that the lines between arcs were blurred to the point where I thought that the first arc was 9 volumes long when in reality apparently several arcs had occurred in that time.

I think that this confusion stems from the fact that the art, while beautiful (graceful, lovely, etc.), is drawn in such a way that oftentimes completely obscures the characters' actions, especially in intense fight scenes where you can't tell who hit whom or who did the hitting, or anything of the ilk. It skips to scenes without explaining where you are and, admittedly, a few of the characters look similar and so it's hard to tell the difference between them. Even on volume 13 I have a hard time telling several of the characters apart.

Finally, I find that the output of information is slow, as I touched upon earlier. More questions are asked than answered, and it takes a very long time for most questions to be answered, if they are answered at all. I believe the manga could be improved tenfold only if we aren't made to wait so long just to receive information that could invest us a little more. Suspense is nice but if you have to wait too long to figure something out, oftentimes the wait can sever your interest rather than enhance it.

Having said all of that, I do believe I've made the manga sound AWFUL and I didn't mean to do that. I don't think it's an awful manga at all - I think it's good; iit's a good manga if you want to read something to turn your mind off. Yes, it's confusing and it will make you think but it isn't terrible.

The characters are all different, even though I wouldn't say that any of them are particularly wonderful (I see a lot of Sue-ish things going on, especially in the character of Yuuki). However, the art is wonderful, the story was good (not great), and I would suggest it for people who are wanting a quick read.

Vampire Knight review
STORY: Vampire knight had an interesting plotline to me from the very beginning, being mysterious, dark, and suspensful. As I kept reading I became more and more in love with the manga because of it's dark plotline. Secrets are revealed slowly making it suspenseful and it's different from most shojo, which I like. The only thing that can bring the grade down a little is it can get a bit confusing at times and I do have to reread somethings sometimes because of that. Story: 8/10

Art: Art is somethhing people find to be very picky over, (especially for myself) because you want to art to be nice and characters to be drawn nicely. Out of all the shojo manga's i've read, Vampire knight has the best art. Everything is drawn nicely and to precision. Art: 10/10

Character: This is where it fell a little shorter for me. All of the other characters are perfect to me except for one; Yuki. I expect a heroine to be strong, independant, and strong willed. However Yuki has always come to me as very weak and always needing to be saved. At first I thought there would be no development there, that she would always continue to need saving but further into the story I see small changes that change my mind a little about her. Especially in later chapters, I see her showing to be much stronger and that is why I've hired the original grade I would've given characters otherwise. Character 7/10

Enjoyment: I enjoy this manga to the fullest. Many people seem to think it's too confusing by I enjoy that aspect, because it makes me think. I have to analyze and calculate everything and though some people won't enjoy that, I do. I find it fun to figure everything out and it is enjoyable to watch Kaname, Zero, and Yuki's love triangle and to watch pasts reveal themselves, especially Kaname's. Enjoyment: 10/10

Overall: I recommend this manga to teenagers and young adults between the ages of thirteen and twenty-one. overall: 9/10
