Beforehand, I apologize if I had any writting mistakes since I'm not an english native speaker. More than a review this is en extensive thought about the review community and for those that calify that manga as bad.

I have a very big problem about the most of the "bad"reviews that i've read of this manga. Said problem is that I've realized that most people who try to make critic reviews fall in the desesperate research of profundity and depth.
First of all you must try to understand what the work try to show and tell. Obviously if you search a meaningful manga this isn't the one you are looking for. The ideas that try to share aren't that profund and revealing, some reflexions are good but that's not the whole point of the manga, and saying that is bad for this reason is absurd.
The manga don't search to offer a deep history. The characters, despise the fact that are archetypes and don't have big revelations that makes them evolve like human beings, still are solid and well-written following their archetypes.
And what I said could be considered badly, but you have to understand that the manga don't want to have a meaningful story or profund characters and don't even try it. The purpose of the manga is enjoyment, and seeing a strong badass character being more badas makes this manga totally enjoyable and even funny in the comic sections.
And criticising that is sexist and is consumed by fanservirce is, for the first part worng, and for the second part right. Is not sexist because the fanservice that contains the manga. The fanservice affects both genres, it has fanservice for people interested in females and people interested in males. And some of the girls that appear are strong and also badass like the other male protagonists.
The manga in itself works perfectly, in fact, considering the overall manga is very good for the fact that the confluence of all the aspects in wich is composed work together to the same purpose. The art is fucking amazing and works perfectly with the most badass character that I've seen in a lot of time creating pages that are outstanding. The story is interesting for the merely fact that you want to see the protagonist beat the hell out of his enemies and it has the tools that lead to that way.
I won't make a full review of all aspects because I don't want to, of course is not perfect and like every other artistic works has problems and bad things. But i just want to make a reflexion about what way the criticism is taking lately. It seems that people see a manga or anime with a good puntuation and they have the necessity of being against the majority and try to criticise for their own ego, and that results in bad reviews that don't speak the true of the product. People that say a show is bad because isn't profund and don't talk about serious and adult, maybe philosofical themes, are the ones that when a show SEEMS to show that themes or concepts, praise that show despise the fact that maybe is written with the ass. But at least you can say that this show in question is deep and adult.

Finally I will make a trustworthy review of this manga:
- If you search an intelectual/depp/profund/adult/serious and similar manga, don't even try to read it.
- If you search a manga that isn't defined by any of what is said before BUT that is totally enjoyable and memorable, don't hesiate

I never have written a review to a manga before and I never tought that I would write one, but after i finished sun ken rock i felt like I have to.
The art of the manga is just incredible and I liked the story overall. There was an arc which I didn't really liked but that was compensated with the arc that followed.
BUT the ending was just insanely bad (in my opinion). I felt like this manga was a waste of time afterwards. But I still give it a 6/10 because of the art and the beginning which I really liked.

Sun Ken Rock is very simple. Don't come looking for the next AoT or something. However, in its simplicity, this manga absolutely fucking awesome. From the phenomenal artwork, to the again simple but great story, to the pure dopamine release of thrilling moments where even though the manga is yet to end you aren't sure of the mc will make it out alive, this is a great read. I'm a boichi fanboy through and through, and you'd be a fool not to at least try this. He may very well be not known for his story, but this is still a banger. Please, try Sun Ken Rock.

A manga series that took a long while to grow on me. It's biggest strength is the great art work, especially in serious scenes though it did take some mental adjustment when the art style shifts to something more comical, particularly in the beginning. Action scenes are raw and great, and I also liked the characters as well and the bro moments throughout the series.

What the manga ultimately suffers from is pacing issues where parts of the story can feel real rushed, especially in the last few chapters. The sense of progress with the Gang dominating Korea is happening a little too quickly rather than feel the gradual buildup of their greatness.

And there were numerous times where something happens, but felt like I missed the explanation or felt a little lost trying to follow along. Or maybe I was being dumb and overlooked some subtle clues or details. Hard to pinpoint exactly which scenes where this feeling occurred, but I scratched my head a few times in slight confusion.

It was a fun read that got me hooked once I grew accustomed to the series, but it has its faults, and did not feel like the most coherent manga to follow.

This manga is epic. Its harsh, its disgusting and its amazing. If you don't like violence and blood, dont watch it. Ther are some scenes who are over the top, but that's good. Its mind blowing. Trust me.

i didn't like it .. well not the main theme but the later set of events as the mangaka kept adding unreasonable stuff or at least thats how i find it .

the first and the last time i will give an Art 9/10 simply this mangaka is a genius . with one pic with one face with one word u will laugh as there is no tomorrow , no kidding u will love this manga after 2 pages . and thats why the Art gets 9/10 .

Character : 8/10
i love each character in this manga especially Pickaxe he is so funny . adding the development of each character is rather admirable .

Enjoyment : 8/10

I have to say this is potentially one of the best I have read.
It blends comedy and mature seinen into one. On one hand it is a comedy but on the other it begins to deal with the mature and realistic side of korean gangs. This is by far a classic and will not onlymake you laugh but have your blood pumping for the next chapter,

I have to say the personally this is one of my favourite manga's that I have read although sometimes I think they go over the top with ecchi.

Story: 7/10
I would not say that it had the best story but it certainly provides and entertaining story. its about a girl who goes to Korea to become a cop and Ken who is a delinquent who follows her which I find a little bit weird but who cares. During his time in Korea ken becomes a boss of a gang I found this to be funny but serious a lot of the times. I could talk about the story a lot more but I might ruin some things so i will stop their.

Art: 9/10
I simply love the art and think its amazing some of the best art I have ever scene from a manga. I think the art really sucks you in and helps the story story, such as when fight scenes come up the art for me just seemed perfect I found the fight brilliantly drawn for me it was the best art I have scene during fights and of course the art when they are not in fights is just as good. Just take a look now read some of it and you will see what I mean by the art being amazing. A bit too much ecchi for my liking but never the less I love the manga.

I loved all the characters I don't think their is a main Character that I disliked Kens just a total badass and overall good guy he is funny a lot of the time and makes me laugh many times though the manga but when the time comes for him to be a total badass he delivers. Kae-Lin Kim who is the hot weapons specialist and Park Tae-Soo who is the mastermind of the organisation and is kens right hand man. I like many other characters and find them really entertaining. Ow and especially Pickaxe he is hilarious.

I loved this manga and cant wait for the new chapters coming out just love to see the crazy looking Characters they bring out and pickaxes face lol. Their is a big fight going on so I read the new chapters as soon as them are coming out each one just leaves me wanting more. This is one of my favourite manga's and I thoroughly enjoyed this manga and look forward to enjoying more.

I would recommend this series to anyone who loves action, fight scenes and badass Characters but even if you don'd participially like them things give it a try you never know you might like it. Overall I found it enjoyable and would definitely say that this manga is a must read it is funny,amazing action, pretty good story and overall has a lot of them badass moments.

tl;dr: A really solid manga with great pacing and an art style that works really well, but that has an unfathomably terrible ending. 

This manga's best aspect is that it is incredibly well paced. In general it feels like the flow to the manga has three parts intermixed. The first is just comedic small stories, featuring the various characters doing random things, generally involving mafia related subjects with some character development maybe, but not much in terms of overarching plot lines. The second is the buildup portion. Here, some sort of conflict is developed in terms of providing background behind why it's occurring and establishing a motivational basis behind why Ken and the gang are fighting. This buildup leads to a long climax portion where major fights go down, back to back, and Ken comes out victorious and advances along with his gang to a new stage. These three aspects are for the most part paced incredibly well, where the story just continues to flow well, never feeling like it's getting dull or dragging on, and thus keeping the reader enthralled throughout. There are three main reasons for that, the first being that there are a lot of amusing characters with many being quite likable. Ken gets some solid character growth throughout and comes out looking very much a boss constantly. The other characters don't really grow much, but they're have pretty well defined and distinct characters that work well. The bonds developed between them though are developed especially well, both for the gang and between Ken and Yumi. There is somewhat of an issue though, in that most side characters outside the gang and Yumi just sort of disappear after the arc they're focused on, which felt like somewhat of a waste. The second reason the pacing is so great is that the comedy is really solid and pretty varied throughout, which keeps it entertaining on a smaller scale. And the last reason is that the art works incredibly well and is often enjoyable in its own right. The art is very different from most manga, but it works really well. It's rough, but it has a lot of personality to it such that it works well with the gritty atmosphere, both in terms of the violence and ero, both of which are quite gratuitous and add quite a bit to the series. Unfortunately, there is problems with the final arc and how it ends. When the final arc, going up against the White Dragon Clan begins, it gets really messy and drags on too long in terms of buildup with things going on behind the scenes and focusing on new unimportant characters that ultimately don't have much of an impact and aren't made especially likable. That isn't much of an issue however, as when that arc reaches its climax, it's incredible. The culmination of the relationship with Yumin, everyone fighting against the various members of the clan, things escalating tremendously, things finally coming to a close, it's all incredible. The problem, is that even though at this point it feels like it's been set up to end in a pretty satisfying manner that provides adequate closure, it then randomly has one final random twist that then ends up pushing it towards what may well be one of the worst endings I have ever seen in a manga, one that's pointlessly long, doesn't make any sense in terms of plot threads, character personalities and relationships, and isn't entertaining at all, an absolutely horrible fumble of what could have been a really solid ending. It's an ending that leaves me with an incredibly bad taste in my mouth regarding the entire thing. Still, the journey from beginning through to right before the ending was quite incredible so I'd say it's still worth a read. The side stories were amusing too.

Sun Ken Rock is a manga which I came across by chance without really knowing what to expect. In the end it was better than what I expected.

The story is about a Japanese high school student named Ken who falls in love with a Korean girl called Yumin and when she leaves to Korea in order to become a police officer he decides to follow her and become a policeman like her. However, being a Japanese high schooler means it is not that easy to find yourself a job so he ends up being a shut in in Korea for a year until one day he saves an old man after his food cart gets destroyed by some mafia hitmen and finds himself recruited and turned into the boss of a Korean mafia group. So we follow the adventures of Ken as a mafia boss as his organisation rises in power while at the same time trying to woo Yumin without her knowing he's part of a gang.

This manga is far from over but from what i have read so far all i can say is that it is amazing. Even though the plot is not the most original thing ever it is very engaging and addictive and this is due to several factors.

The first one being the art, this is probably the best drawn manga i have ever read, there is so much detail and it looks so realistic. You can clearly see the author put a lot of effort and did a lot of research regarding locations and fighting movements, in fact at the end of some chapters you get additional information on how they drew a specific scene. The fights are incredible well drawn and are very engaging, the shots of Seoul are incredible well done hell even the food is drawn with an incredible amount of detail. In several ocasions I have found myself hungry because of that.

Another factor is the plot, even though is not original it is still very addictive, the love story while not the main focus is also engaging enough and there are great comedic moments within it. Also, if you really look into it its got more depth than what you would expect.

The last factor is the characters, especially the main character. I find him incredibly likeable and charismatic on top of that he is a badass by being an extremely skilled fighter, humble even though he has found himsellf in world where he can earn an awful amount of money he still sticks to his ideals and smarter than what others are willing to give him credit for. The rest of cast, Yumin is likeable enough, his gang is both badass and hilarious With Tae Seo being a particular standout, he is the schemer and arguably the second boss of the gang.

Now even though i have been praising it so far the manga suffers from in my opinion a very big problem which is, it is way too ecchi. I don't mind fanservice I understand why it exists, nevertheless in here they go way too far in several ocassions and it gets in the way of the story far too much. In fact one of the chapters has one of the grossest attempts at fanservice i have ever seen, featuring a barbecue, that is all i am going to say but it is disgusting. In addition, this over the top fanservice reduces almost all the female cast to mindless sex objects that just attempt to get into Ken's pants, with the exception of Yumin who has a bit more of personality and a backstory but still gets her clothes torn quite often too. I think this is a pity it could be so good but it gets brought down due to the fanservice. I think the manga could gain a lot with a bit less fanservice and better female characters, since this also ruins potentially cool female characters such as Tae-Lyn one of Ken's gang members, she is one of the strongest members, however when she is not fighting she is only acting like a sex object whose only goal is to get into Ken's pants and wear as like clothing as possible.

To conclude, despite the excessive fanservice it is a very enjoyable manga that has got me hooked and that more people should check out if they are looking for good fights, a bit of romance and a badass lead. I think almost everybody can find something they might like in here.

The manga started very well, the development of the characters happens over time, the protagonist himself knows his story only after several chapters.
But after a few arc the story takes a turn where the reading gets tiring and boring, this manga had everything to be a masterpiece, but it was not what we thought
I also think that there is a lot of unnecessary and disgusting sex scene, but other than that it’s very good, the fights, the way they gain power over the city and really good.
My experience with this manga was good, I enjoyed it but then it really got bad, but I recommend it.

Kitano Ken is a Japanese student who falls in love with a Korean girl, Yumin who dreams of becoming a policewoman. Ken follows her to Korea in order to become a Policeman as well. However, unable to accomplish his aim, he is then recruited by Tae Soo, a Gang leader who, after, a duel (A very funny one) makes Ken the new BOSS. Later when he meets Yumin in Korea, Ken lies to her, saying that he is actually working for a video game company. Ken enters the gang and works his way through the various situations with his friends, taking over other gangs and their businesses. They wear Armani, D&G and drive and mafia-styled cars.

A new world opens to Ken. He will change people’s lives, recruit, become stronger, lead, be feared and always find himself in embarrassing situations.

The plot is easy to follow. There are different arcs, from Ken’s debut in a gang to him becoming a real king. and none of them are irrelevant.

The Sun Ken Rock Gang travels,recruits and takeover other gang territories. In so doing, they protect the weak who are being exploited and provide them with proper jobs.

Coming to the protagonist, Kitano Ken is an impulsive,charismatic,clumsy, energetic and funny guy who doesn’t mess around when things get serious. He can be trully scary, but is a model leader who fights with style.

No wonder Ken, as a person is ‘as warm and bright as the sun and as strong as a rock.’ He really cares for those who matter to him


Character development is a strong element in this manga, Not everyone trusts Ken at first. Consequently, the latter proves to be a real leader. Through the fights, crazy moments, encounters, helping the needy, flashbacks, Ken earns everyone's respect. Their loyalty and their friendship are unbreakable.

The humour in SKR comes in the form of sillyness, weird acts and fan service. Awkward situations, even a bloody fight and those ridiculous yet funny-scary face expressions. The training camp part is one of the funniest parts

Throughout the manga, Boichi’s research about the various dishes, locations and traditions cannot be ignored. He put a lot of effort in his work. the landscape and background designs, Boichi used actual photographs and took pictures of his colleagues, in fighting or badass poses as references. Readers get an insight on what it is like to be a mangaka. That’s quite fun and inspiring!

Moreover, the art style is what comes out in this manga. It’s realistic, flawless, dynamic and detailed. every scene is drawn with so much care and the character design is marvelous, especially the male characters, those muscle lines, veins, hairs and eyes are just awesome.


In short: If you are looking for action, humour, good food, badassery and an incredible drawing, this is your manga.

Now you might have as I have seen screenshots of this manga and thought damn this looks good and checked it out here and saw the score was good here on MAL and you thought about reading it? Well the art is literally the only good part of this manga and gotta hand it to the artist the art is amazing but everything else is utter shit especially the ending. The artist is a fucking perv and decides to shove asses in your face as much as possible for no reason, the fights are boring MC gets hit a million times bad guy once, MC is on the verge of death you expect him to get beat and him building up his strength, having emotional moments, motivating himself and others so he can beat him? nope he knocks him out with no problem thanks to the power of you're a bad guy I'm a good guy so you lose.

One of my favorite manga's so far. Sun-ken rock is a manga that gives good balance, with action/comedy/ecchi and a very great story behind it surprisingly. Also the story brings great character the developments along the way, with great resolve coming from the main character Ken. All in all without giving to much of spoilers this is a story about a guy who falls for a girl that he would do anything for even if he has to become a gang leader knowing shes a cop. Which brings some good comedy and suspense with big surprises and not knowing what will happen next in upcoming chapters. The Art is very good, great detail with character body physique and face expression. Also with how detailed the city is that the manga takes place in. I would give this Manga a 10/10 because of how balanced the story is and how much motivation i get from the main character and his resolve to train his body and protect the ones he loves.

This is my current favorite manga. I'm quite surprised an anime isn't already planned, this has all the workings of a great show -

- Great plot and character development
- An original storyline
- Random twists to keep it interesting
- Humor
- Very well-drawn art
- Fanservice, but not forced fanservice

So far, I have genuinely enjoyed this piece and will update as I continue. After reading a lot of manga with gangster themes I find this one a bit refreshing. It's not 100% serious, but it does remind you of what the entire purpose of Ken's journey is. His focus isn't really the gang or the mafia it's maintaining good graces with Yumi(n). All these other escapades are just really well written character development plots that happen in between.

Do not let that sway you from reading this though! Sun Ken Rock is VERY much a mature seinen that I 100% recommend anyone to read.

Sun Ken Rock starts out like most romance manga with the main character, Kitano Ken, falling heads over heels in love with a girl named Yumin, but rather after three chapters I was able to tell that this was going to be nothing like your typical romance manga where he gets the girl in the end... No, Sun Ken Rock is nothing like that that. It's a story about a man named Kitano Ken, who by chance, discovered the brutality of how the gangs treat the simple folk. Ken then decides that enough is enough and with time, and a little "exchange" with one of the many gangs, he forms his own gang called the "Sun Ken Rock team" whose goal is to become the strongest gang in Korea.

While the cast of characters may be filled with ripped as fuck men who just love to take off their shirts when they fight, it isn't something that is boring and repetitive. It offers more than just your usual fist fights with some fights being won by just outwitting your opponent. Another great thing is that the fights that do happen don't span over 20 chapters and are straight to the point. It gives you more room to find out more about the personalities of the characters which is by far the biggest treat because no two characters are alike, and as time goes on you began to pick up on their little quirks that just bring a dumb ass grin to your face.

The art in this manga is gorgeous. I love the detail that the mangaka puts into it and it's just so different from what I'm used to seeing. The faces are a lot more realistic when compared to your typical manga. This gives it that realistic feeling that a story like this really needs since Sun Ken Rock is a serious manga it needs art that shows that it isn't playing around. Not only did the mangaka accomplish that he also managed to make it beautiful. The scenery drawn in this manga is from pictures that he and his assistant took with their camera. To me, this shows dedication and it shows in every chapter where I can never make out a single flaw or a point where he, (the author), got lazy and just rashly finished.

The overall enjoyment of this manga should be directed at people that can enjoy a mature manga that is very emphasized on nudity and themes like prostitution, violence, and rape. If you are someone who doesn't like seeing a lot of nudity or is disgusted by rape, then you should definitely not pick this manga up because there is a lot of it. If you're okay with seeing these themes then you're in for a ride of a lifetime because although the nudity is emphasized it has never once gotten in the way of its true plot: Becoming the biggest gang in Korea. With everything you would expect to come out of a gang manga, Sun Ken Rock brings it. Bribery, amazing fights, political influence, theft, murder, and sex are just some of what you can expect from a "gangsta" manga such as this.

i really dont know how i feel about this manga, it started off good then the manager arc was really bad, the ban phuong arc made up for it and then the final arc was a huge mess and really bad, the ending had a chance to redeem the whole arc but instead it made it even worse.


if you read this manga you will either end up hating it or liking it, or have mixed feelings about it like me, i dont know if i would recommend it or not, but hey at least it has great art to compensate for the shit story

STORY: Kitano Ken's crush Yoshizawa Yumin, moves to Korea to become a police officer. Following her, Ken moves to Korea as well. However, he is a failure. He meets Park Tae-Soo, leader of a local gang. Tae-Soo tries to convince Ken to become their boss. Ken agrees on something really ridiculous. (Salary what?). So basically, a failure rises from the bottom of scum to the top of the country. So, in my opinion, story is a 9/10.

ART: Each strip of the manga perfectly switches from sadism to beauty to fanservice as per the requirement. I don't have any more words. 10/10.

CHARACTERS: Character development, again is a strong point of Sun-Ken Rock!. The euphoria of reading how everyone comes to respect Boss Ken is just something you cannot forget. 9/10.

ENJOYMENT: I started reading Akumetsu. I started reading Berserk. I started reading Vagabond. All of them had one thing in similar. I felt sleepy after one or two chapters. However, for Sun-Ken Rock!, I even forgot to have any food for an entire day. It's got action, it's got badassery, it's got comedy, it's got Japanese/Korean Cooking Tutorials and it's got Kitano Ken. Ken is one of the best characters I ever came across. Badass when required, normie when not. 10/10.

OVERALL: Favorite manga. Never read something as good as this. Just love it. Read it already if you haven't already. Sun-Ken Rock! is gonna give you thousands of goosebumps, so consider warned. 9.5/10.

This looks like even after only two chapters its going to be something really really great.

Basically, this Korean girl attends a Japanese school , where one of the locals fall for her.Problem is she wants to be a cop in Korea and hes a hoodlum .
Following her dread she actually leaves and becomes a cop.
Deciding to follow her to Korea , with the view of becoming a cop , he ends up by default becoming the head of the local gang! classic!

The comedy will have you laughing and the action parts are quite well done as well.This one is a keeper for sure!
