Watashi ga Motete Dousunda review
Ok so this is a review so there's gonna be some good and bad and its one of my first so.. you know go easy on me plus this is only based off the first two chapters which says a lot as a whole
well Im mostly summarizing since I noticed there aren't any reviews and I usually hate when there aren't any because I want to hear how the story is from another viewpoint before I waste my time with something I don't really like so Im not going into great detail.

So the story is and isn't a cliche and I'll explain why. Our mc (main character) in the very beginning was over weight and not all that attractive although she still had a lot of guy friends, but miraculously she sheds all her weight within one week of depression over one of her favorite characters dying in a manga that she loves (oh and did I forget to mention she's an otaku). The whole becoming more beautiful thing isn't at all unique in its aspect, but the fact that she did it in one week is and along with being different its really unrealistic so if you're looking into a nonshoujo characteristic manga you're at loss. Anyways so of course as expected every male that had been presented previously falls for her new beautiful look and there was really only one who feels the same whether Shes fat or skinny, so undoubtedly its who pull want to root for. So that's the beginning of the harem aspect and superficial aspect as well which is something that I do not enjoy whatsoever because all the guys but one only liked her after she became beautiful and it really makes you hope for some odd twist where she gains weight again just to see what happens.
Anyways the art is really beautiful and I think it's what I like the most out of it all. It's used often I must say but I still really like it and I think it fits its story well.
The characters are nothing special but your usual cliche characters to be honest with no three dimensional aspects. The main character is your usual dense, hard working, common senseless, kind hearted otaku with no real depth while the males are trundere, normal, nonchalant, etc characters and one word is really all you need to explain them and there's three characters in itself that I just named.
I think the enjoyment is based on the reader to be honest so I don't have much to say. It passed time for me and that's good enough.
overall I give it a 7 or a 6.5 for you pessimistic ones. It's something that passes your time and if you keep a good outlook you'll enjoy yourself and hopefully the story will get more interesting from here on.

Watashi ga Motete Dousunda review
Let me start this review with the problematics: As a fat person, I often search for things with my representation. Unironically, it's hard to find a piece of media that focuses on an overweight female, but occasionally I come across stuff like Kiss Him, Not Me. At first, I was very excited to begin reading, this seemed right up my alley! But...

The beginning of the story is pretty fatphobic.

Let me introduce you to the characters:
- **Serinuma**, the MC, who actually doesn't give 2 SHITS about her own appearance so that's REALLY COOL. She's a fujoshi, so all that she cares about (REALLY) is... two guys doing it. Preferably if it's her otp (understandably), but if it's ANY two guys, that's super fine too.
- **Nanashima**, the Douche. You know the type: blonde, looks kinda mean but is actually a softie, usually is the one who gets the girl? Yeah. Is he the one who ends up with her? lol, I'll never tell. But he DOES look like Shion (Serinuma's favorite character).
- **Igarashi**, the Leader. I... don't know how to describe him? He's a decent guy, one of the most decent out of them, and his character growth is a nice surprise. He's not exactly a douchebag like Nana but he's not as nice as Mutsumi. So he's like... a "middle ground" between them.
- **Shinomiya**, the Shota, who is basically Nanashima but small-sized. I don't even know how much of this is a joke and how much of this is the truth lmao I SWEAR they're very much alike.
- **Mutsumi**, the Nice Guy. He's literally the NICEST guy. Top notch Gentleman with a capital G. He's just a little... oblivious.
- **Nishina**, the Lesbian, and yes! It's a girl! Who wants to date Serinuma!! She loves "beautiful things", she's also a doujinshi artist and becomes one of Serinuma's best friends. Unsurprisingly enough, she'd be one of the best options for her to end with :P

Sounds like a fun and different cast, right? It is! Except some of them are fatphobic. That is: when Serinuma was fat, they paid her no mind and some of them even treat her badly, but when she got thin ALL OF THEM *suddenly* became interested. Huh. *How strange*.

There are some moments in the story when she gets back to being fat (for whatever reason) and these same characters are the first ones to find a way to make her thin again as if she's only attractive when she's in a fitting form. This happens at the beginning of the manga and it was such a turn-off to me that I went MONTHS without reading it until I finally had the courage to pick it back up.

But once the fatphobia part wasn't so prominent... it was a breeze to read through. It's usually filled with light humor and cute "shippy" moments, they all have their one shot with Serinuma before she realizes who she really likes. And here's a surprise: there's actually some ~serious~ moments between the middle to the end of the story! Junko puts the humor and light moments in the back burner and decides to go for the drama and gooey shoujo romance (that we all secretly love).

It's very satisfying to see all these characters grow, both as individuals and together as a group of friends. It's especially cute how even after Serinuma "chose" one of them, the rest of them still stuck around and kept being friends with everybody. It stopped being a rivalry and it became friendship, even though they sometimes like to snap at one another haha

This manga is worth at least a shot, even though it doesn't get close to what Ouran is (one of my favorite mangas and, in my opinion, the best reverse harem), it is still pretty nice. And if you don't care about the fat issue, I suppose you'll have an easier time getting through the beginning.

Watashi ga Motete Dousunda review
After seeing all the early reviews full of prejudices I've decided to fight them after reading 40 chapters:

As many have already mentioned, this is a PARODY, don't take everything too seriously! It is full of clichés (used to an advantage), romantic moments, BL moments, comedic moments and all of this in a hilarious way. I enjoy this manga and anime extremely much, it always makes me laugh!

1. The biased synopsis
I was put off at the beginning about the MC suddenly losing weight in an impossible way and thus becoming popular. But don't be FOOLED! This is supposed to be ridiculous and simply a reason to put the shy otaku girl suddenly in the center of boys attention (where such a beauty is indeed eye-catching).

2. Not only beauty matters!
Many of you might now think that this manga therefore tells girls that only beauty matters. But that is not the case! This manga is actually full of roads to acceptance. The boys struggle because of her changing appearance and weird interests (BL) but will realize that these things are merely trivial when caring about a person.

3. Excentric main girl
This girl is not your usual reverse harem mc. She is hilarious, her reactions are priceless, her otaku heart never ceases to amaze, her clumsiness with real life romance is completely relatable and she is always trying to help people and never giving up.

4. Unshallow boys
Sure you can see that the boys might fit into specific character personalities and most of them were first attracted to the girl by her looks, but that doesn't mean they're shallow! Each of them get their own moments where they develop in personality, perception of love and in relations to the other boys as well (from competitors to friends).

Hope this helps deciding to try it out. I would recommend to at least read several chapters before deciding if this is flummery or not.

Watashi ga Motete Dousunda review
Only two or three chapters have been out at the time of this writing, so keep in mind that opinions on the story and the characters may not be accurate in the future.

This author normally writes shounen-ai manga. This is both a departure from that and a sort of riffing on the idea of BL in general.

STORY

The MC is a fujoshi (aka the mangaka's fanbase) who suddenly finds herself quite beautiful, and attracts the attention of four of her male classmates. There aren't many reverse-harems in circulation, and those that are around usually don't reach for new heights. This premise does. The males who surround her all have distinct personalities--as does she and her female friend. The thing is, though, that they all respected her before she became beautiful. It makes their attention after her sudden transformation both more believable and less disrespectful. All in all, the treatment and presentation of her relationship with the other characters is very, very promising.

More than that, though, is the riffing off of BL trends and tropes. The mangaka will set up panel frameworks which are commonly used in shounen-ai, then use them as the backdrop for a joke. For those who have read BL in the past, it's very amusing to see this happen.

ART

I read her past BL stories for the art. The mangaka can draw people splendidly; she also wonderfully avoids the trap so many BL artists make when they try to draw women and end up with boys in wigs. All her people look unique, and the art is crisp and clear. Backgrounds are limited, and tend to be forgotten when people are talking; however, in general, this plays back into the BL-riffing theme--usually there's no space for backgrounds because everything is filled up with sparkles by the boys' faces.

CHARACTERS

The characters, as mentioned before, are excellent. They all have their own unique personalities, and avoid falling into any real stereotypes. They all feel like real people. It's really very nice to see.

ENJOYMENT

This manga is enjoyed more deeply if you have read BL in the past. However, even without that basis, it can be enjoyed by anyone for its fresh, appealing take on how people get along with each other.

OVERALL

This manga holds promise, and will enamor those who are inclined to it. It is novel in premise, and smart in character presentation. It lacks in background, but really, that's a small detraction in an otherwise solid shoujo manga.

Watashi ga Motete Dousunda review
“Wow, this was really good.”

– That's what I thought after finishing the last chapter.

I’m a shipper alright. On top of that, I’m also a simple person, so I usually ship the girl with the first guy to appear. This manga, however, despite providing five possible love interests for the main heroin, didn’t make me ship, strangely enough.

I liked all the boyfriend/girlfriend candidates, they were all unique and all funny in their way. Sure, when Kae had moments with Igarashi, it felt wrong (i'm sorry, Yuusuke). I immediately fell in love with Mutsumi-senpai, because he always cared for Kae, always put her first and didn’t care, whether she was Fae (Fat Kae) or Sae (Skinny Kae).

The beginning, where Fae turns into Sae and looks like a completely different person, was quite unrealistic, but I didn’t question it. In my interpretation, Sae is so beautiful, because she’s the mirror of Kae’s personality.

The manga was hilarious, I haven’t laughed so much since FMA. The faithful portrait of an otaku, her obsession, her mind set, her priorities, everything – it was like a documentary. Amazing. The picture of the annoying couple each of us knows – unbelievably realistic. Characters development on spot. Also references to other mangas – purely great. Kae drawing a human transmutation circle under senpai's hospital bed will stay with me forever.

As far as the ending goes – the name. It was SO OBVIOUS, yet I would have never thought of it. It perfectly linked the beginning of the story with its end, and it also linked Kae’s hobby with her ability to manage a “real” life.

10/10 would recommend!

I would sum up "Kiss Him, Not Me!" as silly yet fun shoujo that doesn't take itself too seriously. If you're in the mood for something that you don't have to think about too much, (which is what I sometimes need!), this ones a pretty safe bet to give you a smile.

The plot is pretty silly, its basically a harem revolving around a female fujoshi who *magically* loses weight after a week from being depressed over her favourite anime character dying. Except, what really kind of makes me laugh is the fact that she really doesn't enjoy that so much and ships each of her male fans with each other (lol).

This is kind of what sold it for me and while I think it could focus more on the MC shipping the guys together (instead its more all of the guys fighting for her attention, which isn't nearly as fun) it's still pretty great.

Minor spoilers ahead! From this post I've read up to 15 chapters.

Story: 6/10 - apart from the obvious twist on the story, the rest is pretty standard. There's a beach arc, a school festival, bla bla bla. Nothing all too new

Art: 7/10 - Again, art is very standard shoujo - it's not going to take your breath away, but it's not badly drawn either.

Character: 8/10 - Something I never thought I would say on a *shoujo romance* but *damn* I actually really love the friendship between the MC and her BFF. The author completely ignores going down the drama route of the best friend being potentially jealous of the MC's new harem following and instead she just finds it hilarious and joins in with shipping the guys. Both of their interactions as best mates are really natural and I kind of love them a little bit. (A-chan is the besttt)

In terms of the guys, they are allriiiight. They develop a little, or at least they develop in the way you expect them to in a shoujo. I do love the fact that a lesbian (or potentially bi, I guess?) girl turns up at one point and ends up joining the harem. I wasn't expecting that and (unfortunately?) im now totally going to ship those two together, though I know they won't be the end ship. It would be great if all the guys got together and left the girls to get together, though.

Overall I am really enjoying reading this so far, its not going to blow your mind with how deep it is (I mean, they only start crushing on the girl after she loses weight), but it's still really cute and it's worth a read just to have a laugh at the two friends freaking out over shipping the hot guys. It would just be a little better if they would stick to the title of kissing him and not her!

I can honestly say I hate reverse Harems & the harem genre combined. When have you seen the last good one with a different vibe? Me I can only count 2. The shows like Asterick war and sword art online make me cringe. Asterick war's plot is what not to do because it's so overused. That's the issue with making a good series with this genre. If you can do it you get a gold 🌟 in my book. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀This series is about Kae a Fujoshi that'll make you cringe (in a good way lol) at her Yaoi fangirling and with her weight changing quark. This is Junko's first non Yaoi series manga which is blatantly obvious. (If you're familiar with her style) I personally love her style even though... Some of her anatomical stuff are awkward at times. The series has good translation notes even if you don't know all the slang in this fandom. ⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀This series has you whole heartedly rooting for all the guys, as you get to know them. Even though their kinda generic with the prince & little boy Lolita archetype. These characters still work so well together with Junko's comedy and the hilarious reactions the guys have. Oh did I mention there's even a girl in this harem Yes. Have you ever seen a harem with both genders XD?? (She's a trap though) ⠀⠀Junko does the best of reaching out to her desired audience. Fujoshis mainly and the people in this fandom who get slang combined. It's definitely deserving of its title for 'Best Shoujo manga' rn. The reverse harem genre should be proud to claim it apart of the genre! ⠀⠀⠀⠀
I highly recommend it btw. Obviously all of this criticism is nothing but my praise for the series. I can't believe Junko was nervous about her first non-Yaoi series. XD ❤️

Watashi ga Motete Dousunda review
WAIT!! Before you dismiss my nerdy semi-academia influenced ramble about how Watashi Ga Motete Dousunda is shaping the consumption of BL and reverse harem, let me say this:

"Girls that despise yaoi don't even exist, okay?"

What Is Fujoshi, And How Do They Have Sex?:
Hehe. Very necessary. Now, you're probably wondering what about the story is so praise-worthy? We get a blatantly stupid and very "anime" (in the sense of a contrived excuse to satisfy the premise) start followed by a checklist of all the scenarios a reverse harem show would include, and admittedly this isn't too interesting. But, where other than story can I talk about how Watashi Ga Motete Dousunda, or as I like to call it, WataMote 2.0 is reshaping the perception of "fujoshi".

This term I will be using distinguished from female otaku (as in WataMote, the original) and female NEET (as in Kuragehime). A fujoshi in proper refers to a female fan of yaoi, BL, and shounen-ai. Because of the array of fan couplings of bishounen works with homoerotic undertones such as Free!, many consider any work with a plethora of beautiful male characters to be "fujoshi-bait" and the female fans thereof fujoshi, regardless of the actual intent of reading or watching the work (to ship or to appreciate "normally"). However, I should make it clear that a fan of otome games and reverse harem shows but not BL is not a definitive fujoshi, as WataMote 2.0 makes clear; [SPOILER ALERT FOR EVERYTHING AHEAD: I'm giving you extra words in brackets to avert your eyes] Serinuma doesn't want to be living an otome game, she wants to see gay romance happen in real life.

I'm giving a long list of long-form reading materials as homework while you're waiting for the next chapter to come out, but since I'm not planning to write a 410-page dissertation reviewing WataMote 2.0, here's the rundown: A fully-integrated individual in fujoshi culture lives immersed in yaoi. You don't need a dissertation for that, just read Genshiken Nidaime. As part of this immersion and as communicative creatures fujoshi bicker over who is top and bottom; 7x5 or 5x7; and create dialogue of their fantasies, externalizing and sharing what is effectively their sexual desires as personified through male/male couplings. This is basically super gay, but in the other way. Since the majority of fujoshi are female, this imparting of sexual desire and more importantly sharing of sexual desire culminates with the full-fledged scenario-building of how "it" (sex) "goes down" (happens). Satisfying one another's sexual desires is typically called sex (also known as coitus, banging, fucking, etc.), however in the case of fujoshi there isn't actually anything happening, they're just talking about their sexual desires. What Akiko Mizoguchi (see below) argues, though, is that this shared pleasure is a kind of "virtual sex." Furthermore, since "it's all girls here" (see Hearts of Furious Fantasies) that basically makes it virtual lesbian sex. Bwoosh. Now, go read up.

This theory intertwines with WataMote 2.0 in several ways. Let's start our way small and work up.

Akiko Mizoguchi Is Serinuma's Savior:
First, as I said before, Serinuma doesn't want an otome game, she wants male/male romance. The apex of her lust and desires is to see men in love with one another. So when they all fall in love with her, she is uncertain what to do, and only a quarter because she's nervous. Let's cut out maybe a quarter of what remains because she is an otaku (different from fujosh) and there comes an otaku pride in being single, (I only have room in my heart for 2D girls, says Madarame Harunobu). But half remains because she is a true fujoshi, and it is the place of the fujoshi to watch. If she were to accept just one of the boys, that would still be subtracting a valuable bishounen who is somewhat at her whim from the shipping pool.

Connecting the dots yet? Here is Serinuma's savior: the handsome lesbian Nishina swoops in and immediately gets to first base where all boys have struck out thus far. (Invading women's spaces! No wonder Japan has a history of hating their BLT sandwiches! But gay is fine... at least for this series.) And why? Because she had already established that fujoshi rapport with Serinuma. They were already having virtual lesbian sex in a way the guys couldn't interfere with, so she was able to come that much closer to breaching the gap between virtual and real. And while Nishina's initial weapon was simply that she had the fujoshi leg-up, there's something far more dangerous at her disposal: she's a girl, so if Serinuma chooses her, it's not like there will be one less bishounen in the world. Sure, Nishina's Sebastian was dashing, but that was just for play.

And here's where things get interesting. Junko is a yaoi author, not a yuri author, right? Why are we getting lesbian romance? To keep it simple, to change up the pace. There's been a pretty decent amount of fujoshi representation in manga (and to a lesser extent in anime; Genshiken Nidaime is the only one with a heavy emphasis). But the overwhelming number of these reads have been male-oriented, often about how a guy meets a girl, finds out she's a fujoshi, and struggles with her fujoshiness. Because they are male-oriented, the ultimate goal is to have the relatable male character interact with the seemingly-wacky female character. But if they're both fujoshi, does this still appeal to men as yuri? I mean, maybe... but Nishina's ready for you! Pork cutlets attack (wait... wrong Yuri)! Sure you can watch the hawt lesbo sexies, but with Serinuma in the heavyweight division. Nishina sure doesn't mind; she just likes cute things. And thus the barrier is closed; The "fu" circle remains consisting of "joshi" (Hato...?).

Yet I should make it clear, even Nishina has her downfall: the inevitable truth that Serinuma's not so sure she swings that way... for now ("We girls form deep relationships through friendships, which some say are the basis of love.")

More importantly, the shoujo demographic of the manga is maintained (unlike CERTAIN magical girl shows), which brings me back to my point: this is one of the first manga (which has been adapted into anime) to be by fujoshi, about fujoshi, for fujoshi; a self-orientation which has been little explored before. By not being a male-oriented manga, Junko is able to commentate on fujoshi culture consciously and actively from an insider's perspective. Fujoshi won't care that some guys are talking about them, but they will care about another fujoshi talking about them. It makes sense, too, that not many fujoshi would have made works about fujoshi; the medium is BL after all. WataMote 2.0 is enticing enough with it's BL-bait to keep fujoshi interested (I suspect I'm not the only one fangirling at the same time Serinuma is) while making a point that it itself is not BL. And honestly, what a relief too.

No BL Is... Good?:
Many gay advocates argue the famous line, "I don't love men, I love you" is homophobic. I don't see it that way. If all fujoshi wanted to see were just gay men having gay sex, that's what they'd have made from the start. But there is something far more admirable about taking the straight, and turning it gay (take notes for 2020 Vermin Supreme). That's why you get doujinshi for Haikyuu, Kuroko No Basuke, Free!, etc. But something bugs me about Free!: it's basically gay but doesn't outright say it. What I want is clearly straight, turned gay. Then it has something forbidden and exciting that the romance couldn't have achieved otherwise. By taking advantage of the self-aware nature of the premise, Junko is able to create the perfect BL scenes while keeping it entirely straight, letting the minds of the audience run wild. To say that line is homophobic is to ignore the reason. This isn't some kind of way of saying "no homo," it's a way to give everything a forbidden and extra-special feeling: they *would* be straight, but their love is so great that it overcomes gender barriers. And Junko manages to make it as gay as possible while assuring the audience the gay stuff is reserved for doujinshi.

Phew... starting to run out of steam here.

WAIT! I take it back! There's one more section!

Serinuma Is My Hero:
So aside from the fact that I've kind of been maintaining a semi-harem over the internet, I can relate to Serinuma's not-coming-out-of-her-room-because-Shion-died syndrome. I have experienced it too. My heart was once pure and whole and longed for One True Pairing: Madarame Harunobu x Hato Kenjiro. But then, with the swift strike of Shimoku's hammer, that pairing was taken from me forever... And as I was crying over the broken pieces of my heart, Shimoku dealt a killing blow: pairing Madarame with Sue at the last moment. In the months since, perhaps because of stressful school or intense loneliness, or perhaps because of Genshiken, I have become a wilting corpse of who I once was. So when I saw Serinuma return, not only alive but better than ever, from her bedroom, the fire was lit under my ass: I couldn't weep over the loss of a canon OTP forever. Even if Madarame x Hato lives not in the main series (and is sadly lacking in fanworks... I ought to start really considering going full-fledged at fanfic writing), they live on in my heart. One day! One day I'll catch up to you Serinuma-senpai!!! (Actually, wait a second... she's younger than me? I need to step up my game!!!)

tl;dr 10/10 would yuri again

Watashi ga Motete Dousunda review
BL author Junko tries out shoujo. As of now only 2 english chapters are out (3rd is in chinese), so there's not much, but I still want to review it.

Story (6) - The story is about an overweight fujoshi (BL lover) who one day loses all her weight by not eating while grieving over her favorite character's death. Not very realistic, but hey it's shoujo. Now that she's pretty every hot boy in school comes out of the woodwork to try and get in her pants; except for one, who is my favorite, and was her friend from the start. Ensue reverse harem with BL undertones. The message that only skinny girls are attractive kind of pisses me off; it's not a very positive message for young girls, which shoujo often targets, other than that I have no problems. It's sort of like Fujoshi Rumi except more shoujo geared and less mature.

Art (9) - Adorable!! Everything about the art is so wonderful and fluffy. All the guys and girls are cute. However, you don't really see any backgrounds it's mainly the characters faces.

Characters (6) - All the characters are feeling like shoujo archetypes so far. Hopefully they will get a little more development, but I doubt it.

Enjoyment (8) - I really like the story other than the whole she's only worth any attention when she's skinny thing. I also really like Junko so maybe I'm a little biased.

Overall (7) - Better than normal shoujo, but you know it's still shoujo so don't expect too much. It's fun and if you're into BL you'll get a kick out of it. The story is kind of like soda it's not beneficial in any way, but it's bubbly, light and fun.

Watashi ga Motete Dousunda review
A high school fujoshi - Serinuma Kae - is hit with a tragedy in her favourite anime, and so loses a lot of weight and become super hot, thus attracting the attention of four guys and one girl.

Verrrry shallow premise... but the first half of the story is actually pretty compelling, if very fatphobic.. Kae is someone who just does not give a flying DAMN about her weight, and is out here living her best life loving anime and watching BL, and I'm all for it. She's living the life I wanna live.

Then she approached by these people who are suddenly super into her because she dropped a whole lotta weight and is suddenly super attractive.. not the rep we were hoping for when it came to bigger women.. That said, I really liked up to the point before she chose who she actually liked of the five (she chose the one I shipped her with so victory to me).

The mangaka took care to show that while initially their reasons were shallow (well 3/5 of them anyway), each of them fell in love with Kae for her character, and found her interesting as a person, and not just as a pretty face.. and also while not understanding her otaku/fujoshi hobbies, still tried their best to support her (even if it resulted in her imagining them in various BL situations) and accept her, though it can be argued in the beginning was them trying to win her favour...

You get very frustrated with Kae right after she chooses who she chooses (or at least I did) but she kinda comes back from it…mainly because the person she chose is super cute and sweet about everything (again I'm biased bc it was my ship).

That's really the best part of the story..the fact that all these characters who would have otherwise NEVER hung out together, are united in their feelings for Kae, but themselves become really good friends. When Kae finally makes her choice, the SUPPORT! Even after getting rejected, they all took it so well, and I loved that whole scene. Even by the end of the story, they were all still good friends, even if they'd gone their separate ways, and showed up when it was important.

So yeah character relationships were great even if the story and the depth of the characters were relatively average.
